Neat video. This is the first time I've ever experienced a single player game changing the hardware requirements for the base release, years after the original release. Not an HD remaster, not an official texture pack, not for an expansion-only area, but the base game being internally optimized for different architecture than the original game. That being said, the 4790k is an absolute gorilla of a cpu, even all these years later. It's nice to see it still putting up a good fight, and in this case, it's impressive that ultra/psycho still sees an average framerate as high as 70. Given the gpu used, I thought there would be a far more pronounced bottleneck. I was considering getting a new gpu for my old 4790k machine instead of putting it in storage - I have an opportunity to get a base rtx 4060 for half the current msrp. I thought against doing that, but given the performance showcased in this video, and the fact that the 4060 is weaker than the 6800, there may be an even smaller bottleneck for me. Interesting stuff.

Yeah, if you can offload the CPU it does pretty well. The problem is when the game gets CPU intensive. Then it won't be able to put frames on your screen. The 4790k has proven itself very capable over the years. The fact that it can still strongarm AAA games like it does is commendable. Sure, no 4K glory here but 1080p still got a place. Heck, I think this setup would still do OK on 1440p, but I don't have monitors to test that sadly.

The minimum spec changed from a 4790k to 6700 non k. There is basically no meaningful difference between the 2 cpu's. If you are really picky the 6700 is actually a bit worse in the single core scores. The only thing that changed between these 2 cpu's is thet the 4790k used 88w to deliver its performance and the 6700 non k only needs 65w to do the same thing. I also run a 4790k as a main pc on a asrock z97 extreme6 board with 32gb of memory. That board actually was one of the first boards ever that had 2 nvme ssd connectors. Did buy the cpu, memory and motherboard when this came out many years ago. It was the best deal of my life as it has such long useful lifespan. Later i added a RTX3060 12gb as a video card , which in many titles is a good enough match for the 4790k. The main storage drive is a 1Tb Samsung 970evo nvme ssd. It is still a nice rig to play games on. The modern i3 cpu's (13100f) however will murder the old i7 upto the 7700k. The new i3 have same core and thread counts as the old i7 cpu's did, but they have about 33% improved single core performance and about 45% multicore. Those numbers are huge for something with similar number of cores and threads. So if you want to swap to something new and cheap the i3 systems do pretty well.

I am stuck on SATA ssd's but even those had an insane uplift compared to spinning drives and can obviously run Cyberpunk just fine. I love how things improve, especially when power consumption goes down. The 6800 for instance is way more powerful than the R9 390 I used to run. But it does all that while using less wattage too. I do know that for my next rig I'll still be in the upper tier when it comes down to processors. Probably going to do either a 14700 or 14900 in 2024. I could even wait till 15th gen comes out...

Thanks - super effort from you. I dont play games every year and thought to pass CP 2077 BUT 2.0 and Phantom Liberty got some good reviews so I'll give it a go.... partially thanks to you. Now I know 4790k will run it with my RX 6600 setup.

No problem! I owned it so I thought I'd update my benchmark from when I ran it when the game first came out. Still good although I do feel we are nearing the end of the line for our workhorse of a processor.

Came back to confirm - totally playable with 4790k and rx 6600 non XT. Thanks. Btw. Its funny to be years behind of the "current time" with books, games and music 8] - enjoy!

Didn't check untill now. After 2.01 update fast city driving started to glitch rarely. Seems like FPS drops to 30 for few seconds, medium quality texture. Field of view =80. Normally FPS 45-60. 4790k - 16gt 1600, RX6600, Samsung SSD 850 pro SATA No crashes but few annoyng bugs, nice game experince.

I'm testing it on my secondary rig: 4790k 4.8 GHz and 4.4ghz cache, 16gb DDR 3 2400mhz and Rx 6800. I also have rebar enable thanks to a BIOS mod and the game is smooth as butter without rt. Sadly quad core CPU are not the best in this game and GPU is often between 70 and 90 % of utilization. The game is optimized for 16teen thread consoles.

Yup, getting long in the tooth for sure. The fact it can still run, and run pretty darn well at higher settings, is not at all a bad thing though! Kinda respectable if you ask me!

I'm curious as what do you guys think of the i7-4770k? Like how is it compared to the i7 4790k? Like Is it good enough if i really couldn't get an i7 4790k? You see I was going for the 4790k but sadly it was out of stock from the 2nd hand seller that i talked to as he said that 4790k's are rarer and harder to come by so I just went with the 4770k instead. For reference, my graphics settings in cyberpunk are around mid to high, shadows set to low and lightings set to a mix of low and medium, crowd density is medium and so far my FPS is 60 (could probably go higher if i had a 1080p monitor but sadly i'm still stuck with a 720p monitor 😥) when there's not much action happening, light shootouts and not too much effects or if the area is not too crowded. It drops to around 55-50 on slightly more crowded areas like the kabuki market and jig jig street and it will even drop lower at 45-40 during firefights with a decent amount of mobs and a decent amount of objects in an area like during the main quest disasterpiece, the one where you're looking for evelyn. Granted 40-45 FPS is definitely still playable, i am really worried that my CPU is feeling it's age 😥

@@TheDutchTexanGames Yeah. At least the i7 4770k/4790k can still run modern games, we just won't get 60 FPS majority of the time and at most our graphics settings can only go as high as medium. So there is that at least 👍
