I don't think everyone understands how badly they all scammed her. It's not just about owing 100k. She had no money, so there is no way to pay them back... so with her house as collateral, they would end up owning the home once she started missing payments. This wasn't about getting a few thousands out of her... this was about getting her home and profiting hundreds of thousands off of her. And I'm betting they did this to many disabled and elderly people.

This makes my stomach turn. A healthcare worker using their clients in order to sign them up for predatory programs that they get a kickback for. Its absolutely disgusting

Makes me so damn sick. I worked at a retirement home for 3 years as a teen - the first and only job I had in high school. I saw this often and tried to protect the elderly, even from their kids sometimes. I just imagine my grandma and someone trying to talk to her at the grocery store, roping her in...just sick

JM picked up on her scam quick, so did I. In this state what she did is called “exploitation of the infirmed”, it’s an automatic withdrawal of a nursing license (if she has one), the court automatically issues a restraining order and it’s 10 yrs in prison and this is for Louisiana, one of the most corrupt states in the union. This woman then had the nerve to sue the lady she tried to scam, the police would have been waiting for her in the parking lot. JM is a mandatory reporter since she’s a lawyer and she should have contacted law enforcement.

I'm so angry about this. This is why we need to stay involved with our elderly! Be ALLL in their business. Be the caretaker if you can and if you can't be, get to know the caretakers well. I took a undergrad class on Gerontology Social Work and the stories that I heard about how people take advantage of the elderly... it really makes you sick. And unfortunately it's still not enough protection for them.

I’m guessing the plaintiff has been to a number of get rich quick presentations. And where are the defendant’s family family to step in and invoke Power of Attorney! She needed protection from herself.

Poor lady! She needs an advocate! Her house may have been a disaster. There are ways to help with that that don’t involve money (talking with family, local church, etc for assistance in a clean up day or whatever was needed). This is horrible. I’m a caregiver and have been in some pretty disgusting homes but I did the best with what I could help with, made the family aware of what was unsafe/unsanitary, cleaned what I could and left the rest in their hands. The goal is to love and give the best care to the person who needs it, not completely uproot the entire remainder of their life! 😢

Luckily the defendant ran into the contractor. It sounds like their intention was to eventually get possession of the house with her as the Co-signer. So she got the other loan to pay them off! Reminds me years ago my old neighbor (rip) almost got gipped. He needed a new hose bibb and this guy was going to charge him $150 for it to place it in. My father was lucky enough to stop him before it was installed and threatened to call the police on scamming an old man. My father then got one at Home Depot and installed it free of charge. People who take advantage of elderly especially ones who aren't really there anymore makes me sick.

Also, what they don't tell you about reverse mortgages is that, when the owner of the house dies - the bank takes the house. So, if an heir is thinking the house will be passed down to them, it won't! Regardless of a will or anything - the bank is essentially pre-paying for the house. Reverse mortgages are terrible and predatory.

Heirs have the option to payoff the loan or sell the home and keep anything over payoff amount, or purchase the home at 95% of appraised value if it is worth less than the payoff amount. They are high fee and not the best option for alot of people.

Elder abuse! The judge needs to report this so every last one can be made financially responsible. That really pisses me off.

This is so sad and it happens all the time to senior citizens. Just last month some scamster life insurance agent showed up to my parents home and convinced them to change their policy 🙃 I was livid with my mom for even signing papers that ultimately saved them $6 a month. I was able to switch it back the same day and reported that agent.

I’ve been in senior living for years and this is a common practice. The plaintiff likely does POA and guardianship services too. I see this situation often. Someone should to notify adult protective services and the local ombudsman.

The plantiff/scammer had her a sys going on. She was getting paid by everyone. I'm glad she got caught. We need to take care of our elderly!

This plaintiff has some nerve to be scamming this elderly woman and furthermore suing her! Some people are just despicable!

I haven't even finished this episode yet and my blood is boiling. There is a special place in hell for people who take advantage of the elderly.

The plaintiff and her friend Craig love taking advantage of the elderly. They find ripe targets, and they sink their teeth in. As soon as they get some money out of a person, they move on. I'm glad the defendant won.

I hope the judge called state licensing for the nursing license to be taken away and then the fraud division for fraud perpetrated through the abuse of an elder. This is a very typical scam all the way. I am sure the plaintiff also collected on the 100k second mortgage as well.

There's a very special place in hell for these people. This case pissed me tf off.
