I think that's why celebrities are better participants at this. They have pretty thick skin from the years of harsh criticism and rejection in the media and from people in their industry. Average, everyday folks aren't cut out for being roasted, especially by close friends and family. Even if they manage to laugh it off, they will always think about it when they are around those people, and hold it against them (even if they keep it to themselves).

Nah, if you're not full of insecurities and somewhat confident getting roasted can be hilarious and fun as fuck. As long as people aren't genuinely trying to be mean at which point it stops getting fun and ends up a little uncomfortable.

Anyone ever see the one where Anne Coulter roasts Davidson on his skin colour and he gets (understandably) super pissed? Definitely looked like a real reaction to a sensitive subject. I think she even brings up his dad, who was killed in 9/11. The definition of going too far!

Comedy sketches can be satirical.

Roasting only works with people who are relatively successful and thus secure with where they're at. I mean, nobody roasts a homeless man. Unless they're really hungry.

I agree, it's not the right format for SNL. Butttttttttt, if there were a show with all sketches like this, I would definitely watch it. It's kind of like that Netflix series 'The Characters' which was hit or miss depending on the comedian, but a good format nonetheless.

I thought that was comedy gold. Vanessa's face when they ask her to come up, and Chris' reactions are priceless. But perhaps it wasn't in line with SNL's typical offerings.

beck Bennett is actually pretty funny, this one made me laugh. I love it when I end up liking one of these new SNL cast members

I feel like this is basically how it would go for most of the people who say they want a roast for a birthday party

I literally crawled inside my couch and chewed my way through the floor to avoid hearing how good this was

This reminds me of college when we got this class clown to perform in the senior skit. He totally lost his cool and started ranting at the audience, such a fail.

Everyone I've ever met who swears up and down that they can "handle a joke" or tells you to "take your best shot" always ends up having zero sense of humor and becomes incredibly heartbroken as soon as you make fun of them. Pete: Finally stays in character in a sketch Pete Fans: He was SO GREAT! lol I don't mind Pete, and he has gotten so much better lately, taking the show as seriously as he should, but for so long he wouldn't even pretend to care enough to not smile and to actually attempt to stay in character. He just always struck me as that popular kid that ironically volunteers to participate only to mock the entire concept. Like I said, he's gotten better, but god, that was so obnoxious when he would do that.

They all are really good actors
