These videos are meant to be educational and funny, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!
0:00 Intro
0:05 The valve cover was removed to remove the shirt and the engine now starts and runs. Nothing else was repaired.
0:19 The customer had the rear seat belts buckled which prevented the rear seats to fold when pressing the buttons.
0:37 The customer did not like the quote once again so that's why they had it towed away and declined to get it fixed at the shop.
0:53 Exactly as the mechanic described. The customer went from 8-lug to 10-lug wheels and never cut the existing wheel studs. So the customer tightened the 10 lug nuts to get the wheel to go on and never realized that the old studs punctured the backside of the wheel.
1:13 The shop fixed all the wiring. The technician said, "Gotta love what you do, right???".
1:27 2015 Cadillac CTS4. The car also had an oil leak and some other repairs that were declined. Hopefully, they get the wheel replaced as this model of Cadillac and some others don't come with spare tires.
1:41 What a mess of wires! The mechanic also said at the time this clip was filmed the truck was fairly new with only 30k miles on it and had a bunch of wiring everywhere for lights and other accessories.
1:55 If you look closely you can see the window screen material that the customer used. The truck (Dodge Ram 1500) also had a ton of other issues that were declined.
2:06 Hopefully this garbage truck gets the repairs that it needs before going back on the roads!
2:20 "Dodge Ram 3500. This was a plow truck that had tires that were way too big for the truck causing the steering linkage to wear down. The movement seen in the video is how much play there is in the steering wheel before the tires move. The customer said they had no idea it was that way and it came in to get work done on the plow as the shop I worked at was only a commercial accessory shop, not a mechanic shop. After the work on the plow was done we made the owner tow the truck out of the shop".
2:34 When the car was in for an oil change the customer asked if the mechanic could find the brake fluid reservoir cap as they couldn't find it and put the oil cap there instead. The customer had a makeshift oil cap on the valve cover.
2:42 This vehicle is far gone at this point and that would be pretty expensive to fix all of this bodywork!
2:55 The clip is very zoomed in as the customer was very far away and nobody could get the customer's attention.
3:04 Outro. Thanks for watching!

They use it as a way to make it easier to repo the car or to try to sell it as a profitable theft tracking service. They are so cheap now the dealer may leave the tracker installed even if isn’t activated. Check the wiring under your dash near the ODB port.

I'm a heavy equipment mechanic and do federal inspections on big trucks. That garbage truck with cracked brake shoes and loose tag axle was very mild. I see them come in all the time with the truck basically falling apart and on fire and the owners just expect me to slap a sticker on it so he can drive away. You would not believe the lack of maintenance on big trucks. I've seen them in such a state of disrepair it took me over an hour to write down everything I found. Its like they think they can drive over incredibly rough roads while hauling tens of thousands of pounds 12 hours a day 7 days a week for years and nothing will need work.

I agree, we own 3 trucks and regardless of cost, if it's broke, it gets fixed, on the road or in our shop. Very few repairs "can wait until you get back to the shop". If the driver has a major issue like trans or engine, we've gone out to the truck and towed it back on a 5th wheel boom, big repairs are definitely cheaper in our shop but trucking ain't cheap neither way.

I work the scalehouse at a county landfill and some of these trucks are 2 years behind in inspections. The tires are bald, but just enough tread to leave tracks in the the dirt. If you put a penny in the treads, it wouldn't even cover Lincoln's hair. I've also seen that on tractor trailers and it's scary that they are flying down the highway like that.

As an OTR truck owner, I just passed a Level 1 DOT inspection while hauling 1.1 explosives. The officer very kindly pointed out the things on my equipment that would need attention in the near future, but that were not yet out of compliance. Within a week, I had those things addressed. No way am I running with less than optimal mechanical condition. I see and read enough about scary, preventable things that happen on the road. I’m doing my part to not end up as a statistic regarding something that is within my control.👍🏼

I perform provincial commercial vehicle inspections up here in Canada, and it hit a new low last week. Had a local fire truck in for inspection and found metal-on-metal for the steer axle brakes, as well as wipers, washers, headlamps, horns all inoperative. Thought maybe I was missing a cut-out switch or something, but looked underneath and the harnesses were in shambles, oil and coolant leaking everywhere, and it looked like it hadn't been washed in years. Only complaint from customer was "it pulls to the left a bit under braking."

Except, instead of ripping out wires, he just punched a hole through the vehicle's floor board. To think that someone handled their problem far worse than Batman punching a hole through the floor, now that's something!

There should be state law that says any vehicle that is not safe to drive should be reported until the proper repairs are completed. This is insanity that these kind of vehicles are on the road. If a vehicle must be towed away from a shop because it’s unsafe to drive then the police must be notified that the vehicle cannot be driven until the vehicle is properly fixed.

  • @j_taylor

    @j_taylor

I agree the situation is nuts, but many US states don't even require safety inspections to keep a vehicle on the road. In other words, the customer could legally continue to drive it in that condition as long as it's not reported. So you'd have customers mad as hell at the mechanic for stopping them, and police who might have higher priorities. Put another way, in some of those low-regulation states, it's easier and possibly cheaper to buy a gun to settle a dispute than it is to get your vehicle repaired.

I live in a place (the UK) where this actually applies. Vehicles have to undergo an annual roadworthiness inspection and can't be driven on public roads if they fail. We may moan a bit sometimes, but seeing the sort of junk you guys have to share the roads with - the possibly fatal accidents waiting to happen - we just kind of bite our lip and admit that there are some regulations that make very good sense.

  • @KamenRiderGumo

The problem you could run into with that is a less-than-honest mechanic saying you need an expensive repair that you don't, then threatening to report your vehicle as unsafe unless you pay him his extortion money. That's why even if a vehicle fails a state inspection it isn't seized/impounded/etc. They just slap a "rejected" sticker on the windshield and send you on your way and if a cop catches you driving it after that then you're in trouble and it could be impounded. But the power to do that does not, and should not, lie with the mechanic as there's too much potential for abuse.

A friend of mine bought a car from a family friend and it was running fine, but he kept having an issue where it would stall out randomly when sitting (one time in a drive-thru). I told him his description sounded like the alternator and when I did a test, it did seem that way... until I looked closer at the wiring. What tipped me off that something was wrong was the splatters of solder around the battery tray. The previous owner had removed the negative battery wire and had attached about four other ground wires. None of them were grounded to metal, just paint, some were loose and two of them had those copper crimp lugs on the ends with solder on them, but they weren't making a good connection. I (almost) ripped out all the wires, reattached the negative battery cable to (the proper) ground, kept all the 4ga wires and copper lugs, and his car ran perfectly fine. Alternator was putting out 13-14+ volts even when sitting at idle. Then his AC compressor caused a belt issue, but that's a whole other story...

2:02 Friend of mine owns a large Used Car Lot. He bought a Caravan at auction years ago for a very low price. Said it wouldn't idle but ran great on the Interstate back to the lot. Wasn't really worth his mechanic working on instead of higher profit vehicles so I bought it very cheaply. Stopped for gas and it was gasping and struggling to idle. Figured pull the air cleaner and get a new one at the parts house. Somebody had washed the dirtiest paper filter on Earth and created a brick. Pulled it out and the engine sobbed with relief and ran like a new one. It thanked me with several years of trouble free driving.

My Expedition purchased new in Pennsylvania and under 47 state EPA emissions... 360 bucks per cat converter. My wife's tahoe purchased new in New York and requiring CARB approved cats... 3600 bucks for the cats and Y pipe. Some people are not in a financial position to afford 3600 or the cheapest 1800 dollar CARB compliant cats, so they should not own a car? I mean would you be talking shit if your state started requiring all vehicles 2010 and newer had to run 104 race gas at 9 bucks a gallon instead of 2 dollar 89 octane and you were one of the poor bastards with a 2010 or 2012??
