Just talked with Sam. Sounds like both of my monarch rigs are in the final stages along with my belt. I got a double Glock 19X with mag pouches and a double 642 J frame with stripper clip holsters along with double HRT sheaths. on each. Took me many years to find somebody that had the ability to make exactly what I wanted. Literally about 15 years.

Nothing makes a stitch as perfect and beautiful as a Landis 16. Absolutely the best harness stitcher ever made. The only drawback would be the shallowness of the neck. The only stitcher that comes close is the Union Lockstitch hook and awl machine.

I purchased a holster from Sam nearly 8 years ago now and showed interest in the process while I was there to pick it up. He asked if I would like to make something and the rest is history. I had the opportunity to spend nearly six months with Sam in his shop learning the trade. Never to busy to lend a hand or give advice, I am forever grateful for his mentoring. You will not find a better leather craftsmen in the business. His attention to detail and processes are beyond any other maker I have ever seen.

Anytime I try to explain why handworked leather pieces cost so much (honestly, a lot of shoulder rigs are underpriced simply because of competition from cheap, poorly made pieces), I use the Picasso story: Picasso was sitting in a Paris café when an admirer approached and asked if he would do a quick sketch on a paper napkin. Picasso politely agreed, swiftly executed the work, and handed back the napkin but not before asking for a rather significant amount of money. The admirer was shocked: “How can you ask for so much? It took you a minute to draw this!” “No”, Picasso replied. “It took me 40 years.” The point is you are paying for the time and experience that were necessary to develop a person who could make such a piece. There's those little details only a person with decades of experience would understand. You can try to copy, but perfect replication of skill (especially with efficiency) is impossible without the time necessary to develop them. He's putting a lot more effort than a minute, but as hes making these rigs, it's amazing all the little nuances he's pointing out effortlessly that only a master of the craft would know. Spectacular work.

Hank Strange, thank you so very much for showcasing Mr. Andrews in your videos. He is a consummate gentleman, and a true master of leather. While many folks may make holsters, Mr. Andrews crafts. Many moons ago I ordered a Monarch for my H&K USPc, and, once I received it, it was only on a blue moon that I used a different rig for carry. I no longer have the H&K, but I couldn't bring myself to sell the Monarch. I now carry a Beretta PX4 Compact, and I just placed an order with Mr. Andrews for the holster portion of the Monarch to be used with the harness and triple magazine pouches I used for the H&K. I may own another H&K compact, one never knows, and if I do, I already have my favorite rig waiting for me. Thanks again, Hank!
