Custom Grid Charging - I Missed a Step...

Ғылым және технология

I forgot a step in the original video and it was all due to how I thought the inverters were configured together. If you have Victron MultiPlus 2s set up in a split phase configuration and you set up dynamic charging from the last video, you might want to take a look at this one...

Just got my Multiplus II 48/5000/70 from current connected to get started converting over to 48v system. Man is their shipping fast. Hooking it up this weekend so wish me luck. I decided to do business with them based on your review and personal experience, so thanks for sharing :)

Thanks! Can you clarify what you’re asking? The inverters in the video are the Victron 5kVa inverters.

You have a very nice set up, just like mine, the exact inverters. But I have the 250/100 charge controllers. I don’t know why you’re having such a hard time using relays on these inverters you do not need to use relays they do excellent job if you use the ESS function. You’re not gonna hear any clicking noises or anything any hard switches over it’s very seamless and you won’t even know everything working in the background look into ESS battery management system. For ESS to work it needs to run for at least 27 days to gather enough information and then it works amazing.

Thanks. I’m not having a problem with the relays though. I plan on looking at the ESS assistant at some point, but I need to make sure no kidding power goes back out to the grid. Need to make sure I understand how it all works before I do that.

@@AdamDeLay07 I used to be like you as well in the past playing around with relays. It was very hectic. Trying to balance everything. don’t worry, you can exactly adjust how much power goes back. If you don’t want to go back, you can just put zero feedback to the grid and it will hold it at that amount. I’ve been using it for a long time and you can even schedule charges if you. This is very simple to set up. Just have to make sure you set them up on both inverters exactly the same. And the inverters will take control of the charge controllers as well. So you just have to make sure you program all the battery settings in the inverter and that’s it. Just make sure you select internal current sensor, even though it says external current sensor. When setting up. There’s a guy online that has done a nice video on how to do the ESS. If I can find that video, I will send it to you. There is one other then you need to the battery cut off voltages have to be set at the lowest the inverter allows. That’s the only way it can work, right. If not, you will constantly get alarms going off in the inverter. There is a video on this as well. I think Victron has a tutorial if I can find that one. I’ll send it to you as well.

@@damianthomas2242 Thanks. I've seen a handful of videos on the subject, but if you find them, go ahead and send them over. Maybe they're ones I missed. I enjoy playing around though. Helps me learn different aspects of the system and if I can learn something that helps out someone else as well, that's great! There's so many customization options available with Victron gear. Thanks again!

Adam, your video worked great, but now the “controls” button in upper right corner of VRM quit working. Any ideas why it would go away?

The Control panel never shows up. IA light gray icon visible for a few seconds with a spinning circle, then the icon disappears. No controls available at all. I was wondering it it had to do with an upgrade.

@@DIYJim-wx6hq it almost sounds like the “remote control” ability was turned off in the VRM. In the VRM, take a look at Settings -> General -> Inverter/Charger Control and make sure that’s toggled to the “on” position.
