Part 1: • Curtis "Wall Street" C...
--------
Curtis "Wall Street" Carroll recently sat down to discuss the differences between investing and active trading, emphasizing that most people, especially from marginalized communities, will never adopt traditional investment strategies. Carroll explained that the fast-paced mindset prevalent in these neighborhoods makes it unlikely for residents to engage in long-term investment plans. Carroll argues that active trading serves as a more appealing entry point for these individuals, as it aligns with their need for quicker returns and their existing pace of life. He notes that unlike traditional investments, which require substantial time and patience, active trading offers immediate educational benefits and financial opportunities without the severe risks often faced in their day-to-day lives.
In contrast, Vlad mentioned his preference for a buy-and-hold strategy, sharing how monitoring his portfolio daily has helped him understand market rhythms and manage emotions better. Vlad highlighted that, historically, the S&P 500 has offered stable returns over time, stressing the importance of patience in investments-albeit acknowledging it's not a guaranteed outcome. Ultimately, Carroll and Vlad agree that while there are multiple paths to financial success, active trading could be a pragmatic approach for those in communities where long-term investing isn't as feasible.

Let me correct that phrase. Most people will never invest & let money sit because they live paycheck to paycheck.

This has been a great interview
I used to trade TSLA back in 2014. It was even more volatile then. I traded the underlying, and options. Made thousands, lost thousands. Overall, after years of trading & paying commissions(back then there wasn’t free trading), and taxes, I probably broke even. I spent countless hours looking at moving averages, indicators, volume, gap fills, etc…. At the end of the day, had I just kept my original amount, it would now be worth 6 figures-despite the stock being down from all time highs. INVEST little by little over a long time. Not even hedge funds with billions of dollars at their disposal can properly time the market. Plus, it takes time away from you. By the way, people think there’s no commission on trades, but you just end up getting fkd on the spread.

As a another brother from East Oakland who was in the streets in the 90’s and ended up in San Quentin (not for major time tho), and turned his life around in the 2000’s, I’m proud to say that THIS is Town Bizzness fa real! This is what it looks like! This is what we’re about!

My 1st time investing I was cautious but scared money dont make no money. Put 250 on and it became about 500, then I put 500 in and it went from 1000 to 2100 then I forgot for a few months and put 1000 . it was 3100 and went up to 4800 and then I kept letting it sit and eventually it went down to 3000 from not cashing out when it was so high. If you are an everyday person You dam play the stock market for quick come ups but if you just hold off it normally goes back up to still be profitable
People need to learn to do both. Money can be made when the market goes down by shorting and buying puts. I don't understand why no one talks about options. Use leverage properly.
@recycle_your_money
Ай бұрын
Because its a rarely talked about strategy and wall street says its dangerous so people steer clear. Options are an optimal ATM machines 😊
When you bought a stock, you opened a trade. 90% of investors will watch their stocks go up, down, up, and down 50-11 times. Only 10% of know how to manage a trade and make money.
Best interview
Well said Vlad!
Great conversation, but one thing most people don't tell you after the trade is the tax implications on Short term capital gains if you are trading in an individual brokage account. For example, if you are married and you making 50k or more, you will be paying taxes in a higher tax bracket.
@karateflix
Ай бұрын
Yea I rather make more money and pay higher tax than not make the money though. Lmao
@BobKnight-mm2ze
Ай бұрын
Well, just to expand. You can declare "day trader status" when you do enough trades to reduce capital gains tax, by stretching out loses over years. And also you can create a Roth IRA and trade within that account with no tax liability, if, you're willing to leave the money in there/or be willing to be taxed if you pull funds early.
@tswagg504
Ай бұрын
Trading is more like a job or business. Don’t expect to pay 15% tax on it…Just make your money and accept the 30% tax. If I’m not mistaken, you can write off trading losses against your profit though. Don’t quote me on that, ask a CPA

@ibervillezee9142

Vlad basically said 3 years in the S & P is a guarantee. He even said the numbers prove it. Technically, nithing can be guaranteed because the Earth could blow up. It's semantics.
Great interview and nothing but the truth. My total portfolio has been up 37% over the past six years. I've tried to convince people that investing is the way to go for wealth building, but most never listen. Like the previous interview, they think their primary home is an investment. I'm like, no it's not. It's a place for you to live. You took out a mortgage on that property, meaning you can't do anything with it because the bank owns it until you pay it off. You can't show me how you've made any money on the house, nor can you liquidate the property at any time and turn it into cash. You need somewhere to live, right? With stocks you can buy, sell, and trade whenever you want. Straight liquid cash.
I agree with both. Its hard to think about the future on an empty stomach. I teach my students you first must get full first then you can start thinking about next month. To translate folks with no savings need to make money now. and the folks who have 5 figures or more in their savings can think long term.

It's pretty easy you don't think about it it's going to keep being empty. Find a stock you like buy a little at a time as long as your consistent regardless of what your bringing in just put an amount your comfortable with into everytime. Doesn't have to be a lot it will add up. It's not a get rich quick scheme.
I always thought stocks was like gambling, until you start investing… I’m a buy and hold kind of guy too but I have traded too, it’s so easy! Take the emotion out of it!!! Man I want to join your course/class. can vlad please put it in the link!

9:25 another reason this strategy is not good long-term. You will pay the max tax rate buying and sell it consistently. I believe you get taxed at 35% if you sell the stock within the first year.

Trading is more for income, it can replace a job if you’re consistently good at it. Investing can bring income too, but is great for retirement and financial security. If you’re trading, you gotta make sure you invest some of your profits and let it sit there forever.
Wow, homie is out? I seen him loke 10 years ago talking stocks from prison. That's what's up!

Get a second paycheck and use the money to get ahead by day trading or buy to hold until profitable.
Active trading is one of the hardest ways to make money, most day traders go broke fast. They just look good during a bull, get exposed when markets go down or sideways. Investing is easy but you need excess money you don’t need to spend for at least 5y
Shidd i taught myself to option trade and use the profit to invest long term…own a stock in each sector and get a growth stock to swing trade if you get VTI and VOO you starting on a good track…vlad don’t understand trading curtis using price action trading and swinging a penny stock.. vlad is like an old man with money in bonds and getting 3% that only a good number if you have multi millions
"Safe" and "safety" aren't guarantees either Lyubovny.
Making trades and not knowing what you are doing is crazy. You are going to lose. Takes a long time to Know what you are doing and broader market changes can still overrule you. Invest long term in some things you like. Otherwise invest in index funds and position fixed income according to interest rates

I don’t even think ur broker will allow more than 3 trades a week without enough money in ur account. I think if you got 10 grand in your account they’ll spot you 20 but I think there’s interest….
Vlad, please let your guest speak. 🙂
Folks don't listen to Vlad. It's totally ok to sell a stock if it's going down even if it's a stock you have conviction on. Cause just like he keeps tellling Street there's no guarantee there is also no gurantee that a stock won't go to 0. Maybe unlikely but again there is no guarantee. You can ALWAYS i mean ALWAYS buy it again once it resumes the up trend.
COMPLETE BS....If you count your money and realize you have $10 less than what you thought vs you count your money and realize you got $100 more, which is gonna have the most impact on your emotions? Let's extrapolate that to loosing $100 or gaining $1,000. You are FAR happier with finding an extra $1,000 in your pocket vs sad when realizing you are $100 short 🤦🏾♂️

Vlad isn’t making any sense he invested money and never sells or hardly ever sells. So if he never sells he’s not making any money. You have to sell in order to make money when it comes to stocks or crypto.
