See Future Queens & Consorts of Europe now: / lindsayholiday
Through most of history, monarchs wielded unlimited political and military power, while their Queens and consorts were in charge of producing heirs and ruling the hearts of the people. Since the fall of feudalism, the 10 remaining hereditary monarchs of Europe have lost their unchecked authority. But their spouses’ so called ‘soft powers’ of hosting diplomats, supporting charities and greeting the public are more important than ever. And they look fabulous doing it! Let’s meet the Queens consort of Belgium, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, the Grand duchess of Luxembourg, and the Princess of Monaco. We’ll also meet the Prince consort of Denmark and the Princess of Liechtenstein who have both recently died.
Queen Mathilde of Belgium
Queen Mary of Denmark
Queen Máxima of the Netherlands
Queen Sonja of Norway
Queen Letizia of Spain
Queen Silvia of Sweden
Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg
Princess Marie of Liechtenstein
Princess Charlene of Monaco

100 years ago, royals mostly married other royals. Nowadays, royal princesses don't have much luck with princes marrying commoners. Fun fact: the last marriage of equal royal rank between two reigning royal families was back in 1982 when Princess Margaretha of Luxembourg married a prince of Liechtenstein.

  • @-xxMelissaxx-

It's a very difficult position/situation to marry into, "commoner" or not. You'd think these royal families would do their absolute best to support and protect the newest member of the family adjust to life in the spotlight and the high level of scrutiny they are subjected to. But time after time they fail these women and they're so damn lucky it hasn't ended in even more tragedy (like with one of them ending their lives). It may look like a charmed life to us on the outside, but a golden cage is still just that - a cage.

The British royal family is the worst of all other royalties in Europe. Why? Because the British royals are uncaring. They are more concerned about how their family is perceived around the world. That's the reason they disapproved of Wallis, Camilla & Peter Townsend. And in the end the family became a laughingstock becausr many ended in acrimonious divorce. That's karma.

Some say that even when Diana and Charles were engaged they were still seeing each other, now if they were intimate or not, that is up for debate, but they were definitely seeing each other. Cause that was the time Camilla was trying to befriend Diana. And as for Dodi and Diana being engaged at the time of their deaths is also something highly debated on. All we know to be fact is that he purchased a ring for her a day before they were murdered, he had the ring picked up to be taken to the apartment where they were headed to when they unfortunately their demise.

I love your videos, but please, I don’t believe Princess Diana was ever engaged to Dodi al Fayed except in Mohammed al Fayed’s delusions. It’s insulting to her family. I’m not talking about the royal family (though her children do deserve the courtesy of having their mother’s last moments not be lies for public consumption), but her siblings and the extended Spencer family. I know I wouldn’t want a lie continuously repeated about my sister, aunt or mother just because a delusional opportunist who enjoyed collecting royal memorabilia said so. As someone with a degree in journalism who studied abroad and met others who cover European events, I would never repeat tabloid fodder, especially when it’s unnecessary to the story you’re telling. I know your research has to be better than that. And consider the Swedish tiara. It belonged to Empress Josephine because her granddaughter (also named Josephine) was Queen consort of Sweden. Maybe a fact that’s interesting would be better than a lie a lot of us are sick of hearing in a place it doesn’t belong.

@@leapintothewild_original Not about Josephine’s granddaughter. I’ve been waiting since the Napoleon movie. That the current crowned heads are descended from Josephine? Where is that mentioned? She can’t even say New Orleans correctly and shilling trash about Diana. If she did, let me guess, she said Josephine was really a Creole, hinting she was “exotic” and essentially the same thing as Cajun when in reality she never used the term Creole correctly in the first place because nobody seems to know how to use it or pronounce any words correctly.

I know you only discussed the hereditary monarchies of Europe here, but there would be one more actually. Wouldn't Brigitte Macron (the wife of Emmanuel Macron) be considered the Co-princess consort of Andorra? Andorra isn't a hereditary monarchy but an elected and appointed one, but still.

I think it truly depends on which country you are talking about - and who. As a Dane: I can honestly say, that if Crown Prince Christian is gay, and wants to marry a man, then he should do so, as long as that man understands his role in life. The throne would just go on to his sister, because the couple would not be having children, that would be okay to inherit. I think the same goes for both Sweden and Norway tbh. If we are talking about the UK, I think its a 50/50 whether people would really be okay with it. And if you are talking about Spain, I dont think they would be okay with it. But I could very well be wrong
