I'm sorry... I have to say this. If Ram comes out with a diesel electric hybrid 2500 series pickup or cab chassis called the ReCharger, it'd be an actual step forward in this world. No bells and whistles like a cybertruck or these random hybrids from kia and Hyundai. Just a truck for truck's sake.

@@whitlcj1 It's already in the works. 2025(?) Ram 1500 REV (Range Extended Vehicle). The truck concept that these guys are doing is the same idea, except Ram is using the 3.6L Pentastar as the genset prime mover instead of a diesel. I suspect because it's their engine and it will be more user friendly in cold climates ...but that's my guess. They could've easily have used the Eco Diesel as the genset power plant as well. What Edison is up to is a great idea, as it will allow what Ram is doing - in my opinion the ONLY way a truck from a 1500/150 series to a tractor - to use electric motors. No need for a charging station, although Ram says that you can still plug it in too. The other side bonus (and I would assume Edison is/will be doing as well) is offer ...like the other EV trucks have, electric power take-off so that the truck can be used as site power. The huge advantage that Ram (and potentially Edison) has in this usage case is that when the batteries are low, all you need is more fuel. Also, both versions should be able to (even if it's only a software update to make it work) is like the Chrysler ENVI program from the early 2000's, the engine could just be used to charge only, running on just batteries until they are low. I think that I read that Ram will keep the 3.6L running all the time, albeit at a consistent RPM where the engine is at it's peak efficiency, so like a locomotive but the batteries can act like a buffer to smooth out demand loads on the genset. It shouldn't take more than an update to give you operation modes. ...Edison will allow you to do what a MFG is doing on a new truck, but give you the same abilities in powertrain, but in your old iron too, and that's very cool.

I was planning on installing one of these Cummins R2.8 crate engines in my '96 Jeep ZJ project vehicle. The engine being 50 State compliant up to '99, is perfect. I live in California, so compliance to the rules is the only option. I was planning on using a ZF 8-speed or the current 6-speed stick. But now, the Edison Motors drive system seems interesting. I have an '03 Ford Explorer with all modes being 4wd. When I bought it new, I considered that at some time it may have electric drive front and rear. I really believe that Edison Motors and the Ram Ramcharger are a better idea than Battery Electric Vehicles for any truck.

I owned a 2017 Chevy Volt plug in hybrid for five years. The Voltec drive system isn’t just a generator in an electric car btw. It re-taight me a valuable lesson. That the more options one has equals more freedom. With two fuel options in my volt I have more freedom than a mono fuel vehicle will ever have. I’m excited for this truck project guys even though I’m only here for the music.

Actually, the MAF goes on the cold side of the CAC piping before your intake manifold. If you install it before the turbocharger, it's not going to calculate airflow correctly. This is how all of the new engines are setup, they have a MAP and a MAF sensor to calculate the fuel map in the ECM. If this engine harness doesn't have long enough wires, it's probably designed to have the MAF pipe mounted over top of the engine with silicone boots connecting the turbo directly to the intake manifold.

Those 360’s were actually a pretty good motor, real reliable and better power than a 350 Chevy. I had one in my 79 power wagon, converted to carbureted with an edelbrock performer intake and 4 barrel, bit of a lumpy cam. Sounded amazing and plenty of power! But yes I agree, terrible mileage and still just a gas motor, I’m really looking forward to this project! 👍

360's and 318's get terrible mileage because the 727-based transmission (RH/RE overdrives) is a power-sucking Turd. If you get one with a Manual or the 904-based transmission (RH/RE overdrives) the mileage goes up 2mpg auto and 4mpg on the Manual OD

I work in a underground mine that is limited on air down below a certain point. I really wonder if this could be a feasible application for this diesel electric combo in toyota landcruiser that are often used in underground mines. I feel there would be major potential for this. Charge the battery when in the main ramp and travel on limited areas on battery. Not restricting people to run around for gear in a timely matter could really improve production i feel.
