    I almost wish I was doing my own now. This was awesome. I do most work on my rigs but the 5.9 diesel was a little foreign to me so I farmed it to a professional for this first need of injectors on my '03 Ram CTD. They had all the right diagnostic equipment and experience. Now after talking with them and the "rule outs" to ID the injectors as the issue, and other possible complications out of the way, watching a bunch of videos on this, and now yours, I feel the next time I can do it. This was awesome and I love your attention to detail in practical application as well as explanation, tutorial, and the little things like the anti seize and silicon seal. At the beginning of the day as I said it was all new and I was unsure, but after multiple vids and now yours, I know I can tackle this next go round. Thanks.

I am having hard starts when the engine is warm. After extensive searches over the internet I changed everything possible but the injectors do to the thought in my mind that there was no way they were bleeding of pressure. After watching your video I'm impressed that I didn't have a problem before now. A+ presentation.

All I have found is people over tightening bolts and a bunch of talk of the forums with no backing from a manual. This is the only video I found that is the actual correct procedure! After torquing the injector you loosen it then install the tube then torque everything again. When I watched the other videos I was thinking man that’s weird that they wouldn’t have you loosen the injectors back up so the tubes could center the injectors.

Interesting side note that I reached out to ARP about the head studs and they sent an email stated "we do not recumbent the 1-1 method and there is no instructions for that procedure" I checked with them due to a lot of people recommending I do the first torque to factory and then increase from there. I am not sure why they seem against it now but I still plan on doing it. Possibly a liability deal.

    Eric James Morris Gee with some things I wait for them to break and then deal with it, but others I don’t want them to break at an inconvenient time, so I do them when I think their life span is close to be done. For me, I don’t want an injector to die in the middle of a trip so I did them pre-emptively. Everyone has a balance and the $ are sure a consideration as well. It’s a tough call.

  • @gpwrinkled

    @gpwrinkled

    3 жыл бұрын

    trainmaxx Prime the fuel system before starting by following the Service Manual Fuel Priming instructions: Vol 3, p. 14-101. Background info Fuel system priming is accomplished using the lift pump When the key is turned to On (don’t start the engine) - The lift pump runs for 1-2 seconds, then quits. (note that if air temp is cold enough for the air intake heater to engage, then the lift pump will run during the entire pre- heat cycle) The lift pump will also operate for up to 25 seconds if the key is turned to crank and then quickly turned to Off before the engine starts. (Note: The lift pump shuts off immediately if the key is On and the engine stops running for whatever reason... like in a traffic accident) Priming Turn the key to CRANK position and quickly release the key to ON position before the engine starts. This will operate the lift pump for about 25 seconds. Crank the engine in an attempt to start it. If it doesn’t start in 25 seconds, turn key to OFF and leave it off for at least 5 seconds and then repeat cranking for another 25 seconds. Repeat until it starts. Once started, the engine may run erratically and be noisy for a few minutes. This is normal. If it won’t start, perform previous fuel priming steps. Be sure fuel is present in the tank. Crank the engine for 30 seconds at a time to allow the fuel system to prime. Start the engine

    23:06 ...I like your style. I too use Anti Seize or at least grease on surfaces such that you described to prevent galling when torquing to spec. So many guys do not do things like this because they think it interferes with torque values and or it will allow the bolt or union to become loose....and that is complete and total BS. Nothing could be further from the truth. Your use of grease or Anti Seize is correct and proper. I'm a Master Mechanic today and began wrenching when I was a pre-teen. My father and machinist grandfather, (born in 1899) both encouraged my mechanical bent since I was a child. Every single thing they passed on to me has stood the test of time and fire. Keep doin it the way you're doin it. Hats off to you Sir.

    Bravo, great video. I'm contemplating to buy a 2005 Dodge Ram that says to have smoke coming out the blow by hose. Owner suspects one of the injectors to be the cause reason I watched your video part of my research. Will email you to request the detail sheet you mentioned in your video. If I don't buy the truck I still wanted to let you know this is one of the best video I've watch regarding the subject matter.

    Great video! The only thing is it doesn't matter where you grab a torque wrench. If you grab half way down the handle you have to apply twice the force but the torque is the same on the fastener.

    Hi Hector, I’m glad the video helped and thanks for taking the time to let me know. If you email me at the email address shown at the end of the video I can send you the detailed instructions if you’d like to have them. They contain all the torque values and detailed instructions for much more than what is in the video.

    Greg shows the proper install here. First tightening injector hold downs to 44 in.lbs. then backing off bolts before initial connector tube torque. So many other vids that omit this step.

    Good vid! I used the exact same injectors and I would never do so again. They will NOT get better fuel efficiency and they WILL smoke more than stock making it impossible to pass emissions (contrary to what they promised). DDP replaced mine twice to try and resolve these issues but they finally gave up. (They did all work including replacing the CP3 ) These injectors will make your truck run smoother than new though (I've owned truck since new). If I had it to do over, I would have used their stock, honed injectors and just used a box to add power.

    Thanks Scott. Good input for others so thanks for posting. I haven’t needed to pass emissions due to the county I live in, so have no experience to share on that point. I do get 19-20mpg consistently on the highway, as measured at the pump rather than relying on the truck’s mpg calculator. Thanks for the comment.

    @@gpwrinkled Thankfully I only had one more year of testing before ymy state stopped. I had to pay an additional $150 because it couldn't pass. Totally agree on the "Lie-o-meter" . That overhead is wildly optimistic!
