Cummins 12V Valve Upgrade Inconel High Heat Resistant Nitride Wear Resisitant Black Lightning Valves

In this video I show what happens to hard chrome valves after being run at high temps for long periods of time. I also talk about how this can lead to guide damage. I installed a set of black lightning valves from Goodson which is a higher heat alloy than the Hamilton valve option and a lot cheaper than the Cummins marine valves. These are in my personal 500rwhp trailer puller so I will be able to see how they perfrom long term and report back. Currently they have seen temps in the 1700degF range with no issues for short periods.

Blown headgasket might of saved you from a dropped valve. At least a little good came with the bad.

is inconnel valves more common in the high powered pulling applications ?

Depends the pulling engines run such a short time a lot of times they don't really experience heat related failures. Inconel is most common in high powered sustained load applications like gensets and marine power units. It is the same material they make turbo turbines out of.
Seats? If so, are the Inconel also?

This head still has stock seats but there are higher temp versions available for them as well. The seats don't see near as high a temps because they are cooled much better.
Brian, Is this our only option for Inconel Valves for the 12 Valve? Did you find others available? How do we go about getting part numbers for the Marine Inconel Valves? Thanks!

Yeah the crew cab started pouring coolant over the side of the block so I had to fix it. I did it right after I put the head back on old yellow.

would sodium filled valves be an option for this application?

Sodium filled is between a stainless and an inconel as far as its ability to handle heat in service.
