The way to avoid a cult is to follow facts not faith without evidence. The problem is that Christians are stuck in a loop of the Bible equal facts and facts equal Bible so they will never assess the Bible.

Gosh, this reminds me of what our church went thru last year, after digging deep into our pastor we found out how he gaslighted people, abused them, controlled them, and even stole money almost in broad daylight with people too shy to speak up against him. In the end, he almost destroyed this church, so many have left and some involved with his abuse has left the faith now calling Christianity bunk because of what he did to her and the fact we disfellowshipped with her because of her unrepented sin. It's awful to see that/hear it, we do indeed need to stand in the Word and not be afraid to speak out when we see something wrong.

Alisa, I NEVER thought of doubt that way. Thank you so much. I was afraid of my moments of doubt. I thought they were signs of losing faith. But I just realized every time I feel doubt or have questions I find myself digging even more. And I come out on the other side more deeply rooted.

Interestingly, the verse the Lord quoted to John deliberately excludes the portion about the Messiah’s liberation of prisoners. It might’ve been tender, but I think it was also a rebuke of John’s expectations given the Messiah’s advent.

The name came out of my desire to produce resources for Christians to study God's word. I'm not a trained teacher, so rather than call myself a teacher, I think you could say I'm more of a librarian. I love to study the word, and read books about the Scriptures. So my videos will be driven in that direction.

Zoe Girl came to my city, Billings Montana. And you performed at the church my old babysitter used to take me. Which was First Assembly of God. I ignorantly thought I could go to this church concert. I was sadly disappointed when I found out there was a cover charge comparable to a mainstream concert, that I could not afford. So I didn’t get to go. I was an orphan, and I struggled just to provide for myself at 13 years old. But it was on that day, where I learned a lot about “Christian bands”. Calling it The Christian Industrial Complex… couldn’t be more correct.

He taught openly in the synagogues. And His invitation was and is open for all who will receive Him. We have the free will to reject Him and what He's done. We're also encouraged to be like the Bereans, to search scripture 🤍

And hands that shed innocent blood.)I am pretty sure it doesn't say anywhere specifically 'abortion,' but if you look into the practices of ancient cultures you will find child sacrifice is common and they usually involve the child to be born. But that's not to say people were not given herbs or something to induce a miscarriage. It is worth investigating.

What is deconstructing and what is the progressive church?

There are cult groups that call themselves Christian, but its impossible to call Christians a cult given the diversity of ideas, looks, habits, etc. I've been involved with an actual religious cult. And, everyone talks the same, looks the same, largely acts the same. The fact I can go to one Christian church, not like it, and go to one down the block that looks, acts, sounds completely different, maybe even with very different teachings, shows Christianity is not a cult.

It would be awesome if you could do an episode of NIFB. They are a borderline cult in my opinion.

No, I’m referring to something else . The Hebrew Roots movement is a fixation of becoming more Jewish to unlock the hidden center of Christianity or to be more Christian ... This is my definition but I know several people who are really into it an read an exclusive bible called the Jewish Bible by David Stern. He has changed texts of the Bible , specifically about justification and the law to mean something closer to the Roman Catholic idea of justification . It seems to me to b very cult like

I grew up in a conservative church that has started to turn progressive. What I despise is that they aren't honest about it. The preachers don't straight up say "I think the whole Bible's poetry or written by the patriarchy" or whatever. The congregation trusts the church and they take in the poison of the universal christ etc little by little. I see my in laws like frogs sitting in water slowing heating up and not understanding why I'm telling them to get out.

The preachers themselves dont really have a choice. Mainstream culture keeps changing and they feel pressured to compromise. Many preachers don't have proper qualifications or skills to survive in the outside world. Some gave up their prosperous life, and are now too proud to head back. In other words, the church industry is their only choice, so they cannot risk offending the woke.

Beware, the group "Lord´s Recovery" erroneously teaches it's dangerous to read the Word of God directly. They say you should only understand the Bible through their ministry and teacher who they exclusively follow: Witness Lee. They say you cannot really understand the Bible outside of his teachings and that he was the unique minister of the age with the complete revelation.

(of course ... they smugly think they are among the "chosen" to be saved without a shred of evidence) and since calvinists believe god predetermined who will be saved ... they have removed free will - the gift of god to humans, and removed jesus from the equation. since god (according to calvinists) has already determined who will be saved ... Hmm, is Christianity a cult? Well, let's go through the checklist that most Christians put other religions through... 1) exclusivity? Yes 2) one prophet whose word is inerrant who is the sole authority? Yes (Jesus). 3) If someone does not believe in said religion, will you be banished or punished? Yes (if you don't believe in Jesus, you will go to hell). 4) Are all other religions seen as evil or wrong? Yes... So, I guess the answer to the title of the video is a resounding YES! Do you know what a cult really is? Just cause some factions of Christians or other religious group are given the label as a cult it doesn’t mean every religious groups are cults, there are certain difference between law abiding loving religious people and cult members. If your church is telling you to cut ties with friends or family members cause they stop believing then your church is a cult, if they tell you that you have to change things about yourself and that change is unreasonable then it’s a cult. You can believe what ever you want but if that’s at the expense of your relationships with other people, if your faith doesn’t command you distance yourself from friends or people who care it’s not a cult.

It is absolutely a cult. I was in it for years and years. Went to Bible college. One of the characteristics of a cult is to convince followers/believers that leaving will be devastating. Christianity teaches that every sin is forgivable except for not believing. So many pastors taught that leaving the faith would result in depression, despair, loneliness, meaninglessness… which would not be farther from the truth. I felt and continue to feel liberation from the mind control I experienced in the multiple churches I tried. I was guilted into behaving in certain ways. This video makes the point that Christianity cannot be a cult because people died when Jesus came back. I used to make the argument myself as a Christian. Except that it rests on the belief of that claim, which was not expressed in a traceable way until about 80 years after Jesus died. And also people are willing to die for some pretty absurd reasons. It doesn’t give legitimacy to any of those reasons. The Bible teaches that questioning the gospel is actually Satan trying to steal the truth. This is by design. Constantine’s design, which canonized a collection of accounts put together by the Council of Nicea. And all these centuries later, it is that version of the Bible, and in those few, flawed, powerful men’s act of choosing that version, that people believe in today. And it’s bananas. It’s absolutely a cult. There just isn’t a centralized leader. They’re all followers of a version of Jesus but only vaguely.

If Christians learned Hebrew and taught their children Hebrew, the children would not accept Christianity growing up. The bastardized translation of Hebrew into English and other languages is egregious and outright corruption of our Holy Scriptures. Take for example the King James Version of Isaiah 14:12 "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!". IT DOES NOT SAY THAT IN MY TANACH!!!! This is what is says "How have you fallen from heaven, the morning star? You have been cut down to earth, You who cast lots on nations." ....and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

All the other content really resonates with me, but this episode does not. The Christian church is historically oppressive and has not changed. The hosts still make judgments on others on their lifestyles and choices like an oppressive system and a cult. Using the bible to justify that judgement is cultist in nature.

Christians are called to judge other Christians...by the standard God set...which is found in the Bible... It can absolutely be viewed as oppressive and wrong, if you're not submitted to the One who set the standard.

Yes. In fact every religion, started as a cult with a few members. When a cult or a sect grows, imposing their beliefs on people, it always develops in a more aggressive way. It becomes a religion as soon as a greater minority or a majority of the society one lives in, surrenders to a religion to be and is recognised by other religions. That simple? Yes, that simple. As an atheist, I have been confronted by tens of religious institutions. I am sticking to atheism and let religious people be. Also quite simple. But in the end, all religions are cults., no exception.

What is a cult? My understanding is that a cult is a group where it’s members cannot ask questions to seek the truth about what they’re being told to believe, or to seek the truth period. A cult is under the mentality of either just blindly believe or leave.

Exodus 21:7 gives explicit instructions to enslave women for indefinite periods of time. I'm not sorry for at least considering that some corrupted, self-deluded or aggrandized propagandist knew exactly what they were doing when they wrote the words that could justify so many evil acts. Maybe if your holy book wasn't such a contradictory mishmash of archaic superstitions, lies and human rights abuses; You wouldn't have to rely on pressuppositional apologetics. Congratulations Apologia, I now trust rollercoasters more than a hot fart or Apologian cultists. Feel better, do better.

I can see how Exodus 21:7 and other OT scriptures would upset people, but a little push back is necessary. Context is key when it comes to reading anything, especially ancient literature. I suggest reading all of Genesis through Deuteronomy. Once that's done, you'll notice that all the laws expound on the ten commandments in Exodus 20. You should also note Exodus 21:7-11. Then ask some questions: Why would the father decide to sell his daughter in the first place? Why would God allow this kind of practice for His people? Was Hebrew slavery the same as Ancient Near Eastern slavery? Was Hebrew slavery the same as American slavery? If not, how was Hebrew slavery different and why? What was the purpose for Hebrew slavery? Is "slavery" the best modern term that fits the ancient Hebrew context? How would knowing the biblical Hebrew language help me answer these questions (by the way, it definitely helps)? Slavery in the bible is not a question that can be answered in a quick, tweetable post. It takes a lot of effort and research - more than a google search - and understandably so. The Torah is not a modern document that we can skim through and make blanket statements based on our own western/modern presuppositions, especially when we haven't put the work into understanding it for what it is. That's how we can do better.

@@santasalligators My push back comes from years of academic study in this field. Cultural context is more than apologetics... It's about respecting the people in their time and understanding why they did what they did. If we throw context out the window, we're in danger of ethnocentric ignorance.

100% it is a cult! The definition of a cult fits to a T.

Daniel is not one of the books of the prophets in the Jewish Bible. It is in the book of 12. As far as Daniel 9:25-27 "the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing" He will have nothing. The Temple will be destroyed along with Israel. Replaced with abomination and desolation. Is that not what happened? Jesus died and had nothing. Jerusalem was destroyed. Anointed One can mean many things. Cyrus was an anointed one for example. The true Messiah is to bring peace to all the earth. Draw people to Jerusalem, rebuilt, to worship God. Jesus did not do that. To claim but he will is nonsense. Very much like LDS claims.

Christianity is most certainly a cult. Its a massive conglomerate of people believing in an supernatural being above them with powers and judgement, with groups of practitioners who gather under ceremonies, adapt their lives to their beliefs, refute any evidence that may decree otherwise, and beckon other individuals to join in their belief system because "Their religion is the true religion." They do contain even at the most mundane level ritualistic practices, convert anything they see unfit into a product of their religion to open up the acceptance of things they wish to be true, and I could keep going. The problem with asking someone if christianity is a cult or not solely depends on whether or not you are asking someone who is christian. If you ask someone in a group deemed to be a cult if they were in a cult, what do you think their response would be? Christianity is a cult, and those who believe it will deny it because it infringes on their faith and their peace of mind, and unfortunately it is the most successful cult to have existed, why else would all other religions that preceded it get stomped out over time?

He was a counter religious person to the Roman's so kinda culty by definition

What I'm talking about is that Christians perform something called communion where they eat the body and blood of their dead God. If eating and drinking the body and blood of a dead God is not cultish then please tell me what is 🤣
