    Sam, I was completely devastated when the Snacks show came to an end...but I think this show, Good Vibes, is now my fave! The friendly banter between you three is great and I always come away having learned something new about the game. Becky, as a die-hard Thorns season ticket holder and fan, section 109 - right next to the GA and the percussionists, I LOVE your take on all things Thorns and soccer, and I enjoy watching you out on the field. I'm not convinced that Soph was offsides for her 2nd goal - but it is what it is. Ladies, keep up the great work and enjoy it all!

    Sam and Becky, you so embody the Good Vibes energy. I feel good after hearing you and love your positivity and commitment and leadership to soccer. It's inspiring. And as a late in life soccer player for the last 16 years, I love the idea of unintentional brilliance. We're shocked it happened, but we'll take it! Scoring goals (or stopping goals) is fun every time. 💥⚽

    Really enjoying the podcast! As a Portland fan who was at the Thorns v Gotham game, the frustration for me on the VAR decisions really came from not seeing the replays of both of Sophs goals. Not sure if that is the standard across the league, but having a replay in stadium with lines drawn would be much nicer. We had to wait ~1 hour after the game for the highlights to be uploaded to see what the refs were seeing

    Hello Sam. Manchester chip shops have all sorts, like pies, not just fish, as I found out when I crossed the Pennines for university. The first person I met there is now Sir Alok Sharma. I went to see Back to The Future in the cinema in Manchester city centre with him. Last time I saw him on TV he was between the King and PM. I often wonder what I would say to our younger selves if I had that DeLorean. He saw I had little money, as I spent up touring Europe, turning 18 under the Eiffel Tower. He suggested we join the Social Services Society. Their cheese and wine party fed me for a week from left overs, as did the Christmas parties we put on for kids and old folk. Becky needs to come and try proper Whitby fish and chips.

    Not to knock Juan Carlos AT ALL but he is right there with his star players and should be able to gauge their tiredness from their output right? Isn’t there some responsibility on the coach, for putting you in the game when he knows you might be compromised, (sleep, recovery etc.). Not that everything is cut and dry. But shouldn’t we be reading the room? What are your guys’ thoughts and opinions?

    He also kept putting her back out there after she was injured! Should've pulled her after the first time, especially if he knew she wasn't quite fit. Or, shouldn't have even played her in the first place! Thorns rotated heavily the first game because of it (and paid for it!)

  • @beachliving3127
    @beachliving3127Ай бұрын

    Two reasons are causing injuries in my opinion. The number of matches and the intensity of the play. Back in the day, the women only had the National Team. While these were intense practice sessions and matches, they didn't play as many matches as the players of today. The most matches the USWNT had in one year was 41 matches in 2000. While they played 41 matches, I haven't been able to deduce how many matches each player participated in during this time. Based of what little I know, not all players played in all of these matches. Typically the National Team had about 26 matches during an Olympic or World Cup year. However today's players are competing on both the National Level and Club Level. In many cases, today's players are playing +26 matches for just for their Clubs. When you add in the National team requirements, the numbers can skyrocket up to 45 and beyond. For example, Lindsey Horan played 45 matches in 2023. She is in great shape but the miles do add up and after too many miles, a breakdown will occur. I believe the intensity of play is higher because not only are trying to make the National Team, they are also trying to keep their spots on the club team. Different coaches have different training regimens and the total intensity is more than back in the day. I'm not saying that the players of yesterday could not compete today--they could. I'm saying the players of today are pushing harder because of club and National team competition. This level of tempo is a major factor in injures. Back in the day, a National coach could take their time to get the players ready because they had so much time and the players didn't really have other places to play. Today, they have shorter and more intense session to get ready and coupled with the demands of their club teams, stress is showing. A good coach is going to have to learn how to balance the needs to build a National team and a players club team requirements. Maybe you don't have a player participate in a She Believes cup because they need rest from their involvement in the Gold Cup and their club schedule.

    It's a bit disappointing that neither of you think it's also the responsibility of the head coach to mange minutes. Purce clearly should have been subbed off after the first really bad knock. Also, Reign are not 0 and 2. They won their first game. Unlike Portland.

    Wow, can’t believe you guys had 6-8 weeks off?!! That’s just a dream for European players: many of the Euro-winning English squad had only 3 or 4 days off that summer thanks to crucifying Fifa-led scheduling!! Ditto Spain after their WC win. Also…the utter unfairness of the US National team (and a few others) qualifying for the Olympics all the way back in 2022, whereas the European teams had to effectively play the Euros ALL over again in late 2023/4 finishing as late as a few months BEFORE the Olympics, and having to do all that intense heavy heavy qualifying whilst the National Selected players ALSO played every League match during this time! Utterly bonkers, and no wonder SO many women players are picking up ACL’s and other injuries . England supporters, and I suspect the players, breathed a sigh of relief re not qualifying for what to Europeans is a ‘fun’ tournament*, rather than the pride-inducing Euros or WC. Our players NEED some quality time off!! 🙏 Sarina and Emma Hayes and other English team managers HAVE spoken out about this, but to no avail. It’s time for the players, world wide, took Fifa and/or Con..sorry, we don’t have that here..Concaff?..to task and use their powerful voices ( wish Rapinoe and Carli were still playing! 💪) to implement schedule changes. Fifa sucks, and the money-led men in suits are costing the women’s game dearly 😡 * But of course we would love to win it.
