People give Joe Buck a lot of grief but he couldn't have handled this any better. The minimalist call of the double play followed by 3 minutes of silence letting the pictures tell the story. This is how it's done.

Oh come on. I've heard Buck call dozens of series-ending plays, including home runs or, more applicable, the Cubs World Series victory. He's never been a minimalist for baseball. This is just him dropping the ball and uncorking his worst series-ending call ever.
If you didn’t grow up in Chicago or grow up watching WGN, you could never understand the love for Cubbies. What a moment!!!

I didn't grow up in Chicago (grew up in Southern California, Dodgers and Padres territory) but I did get WGN. I was grounded one spring/summer (I was a little shit tbh) and the Cubs were on almost every day on WGN. I would watch out of boredom, then became invested in the Cubs, and next thing I know, I'm pulling and following the Cubs and have since. That was 1995 I think. And throughout all of those years was many many losing seasons and disappointment. 2003 broke my heart. I may have not grown up in Chicago, but I bled blue just like everyone in that crowd.

@@YaowBucketHEADI’d have a beer with you. I remembered 2003. My best and I at the time had Steve Bartman brushed up against is as left Wrigley on Waveland Ave. It was wild losing to the Marlins. Such a heartbreak year. And 2008! Lost to the Dodgers.. also Cubs 100 year anniversary since last World Series and they were number #1 team that year.
That happened on October 22, 2016 - my 56th birthday. Best. Birthday. Ever. #gocubsgo
Gotta love that it ended with that picture perfect 6-4-3 double play. A double play we needed 13 years earlier after a foul ball down the line. It ended up being worth the wait. Unbelievable.

Dodgers can't be too down, they actually held the Cubs scoreless longer than any other team they face at 21 straight innings before the Zobrist bunt, which I believe led to the real winning of the pennant, because that one play finally woke up the offense.

7:04 Loudest double play in history.
Two things. The foul ball down the left field line was very close to the Bartman seat. And the double play ball that ended the game was almost exactly like the one hit to Gonzalez that he booted in that same inning in 2003.

I don’t think anyone understands how big this was other than cubs fans. Look at the crowds outside wrigley, the bars, wrigleyville, the cubs have the best fans in baseball in my opinion. I’m Houston born & raised and never converted to the Astros and so glad I didn’t and never will. This organization is so electrifying and love how the cubs long history never kept us ( the fans ) from loving them any more or less. Houston has The biggest bandwagons in the MLB and that is fact. Cub fans can be spotted throughout Houston and proud to be one! GO CUBS GO !!!!!!!!!

Man it's so sad and terribly relatable seeing the camera pan to the anxious Cubs fans at the top of the 9th. Up 5 runs with a beast closer but the years of heartbreak don't let you be optimistic for a second. So happy for the Cubbies. Been on a binge re-watching these moments!
I'm a Dodgers fan but I knew 100% that we would lose this series. I wasn't even upset the Cubs were the team of destiny and I feel lucky I got to witness history.
My wife bought me the 8 disc Blu Ray set with this game, plus all 7 games of the 2016 World Series. Each game had 4 separate audio tracks: the Hughes/Coomer Cubs Radio Network, the LA/Cleveland broadcast teams, the Fox Sports TV announcers and the Spanish play-by-play. I've watched them over and over, listening to different audio each time but I stay focused on the end of this game and the end of game 7 of the World Series. Every time I watch those 2 games I get cold chills and feel the same emotions over and over. It was the best Christmas gift I've ever received! Thanks for posting. Being Cubs fan since being middle school kid... living in LA and to get text messages, phone calls from friends and family to say congratulations was something amazing then to witness that World Series win is still best feeling as a fan I have had!
I was living on the West side of Chicago, Little Village neighborhood, when the Cubs clinched the pennant (born and raised NW side). I was on our apartment rooftop literally banging pots and pans (it was all I had) in celebration. All the Chicago Police and Fire Department cars/ trucks in the area rang their sirens at the same time. It was an epic night. I ended up repeatedly playing Magic Sam's Sweet Home Chicago blaring out my first floor window (Magic Sam lived on the West side). A million memories. My mom and sister called me from Florida when they clinched and I choked up and cried. Been a Cubs fan since 1984 when I was 12. It's not just a sports thing, it was a Chicago thing. This meant a lot to hard working, blue collar Chicagoans, who were loyal to the Cubs, and their families. Being a Cubs fan during the losing times was something not a lot of people understand. We were loyal to the Cubs, but we were loyal to our families, our jobs, our neighborhoods, as well. It was a bond only local Chicagoans can understand.

I have never heard a crowd reaction that even comes close to this when Rizzo made the last out. Not even when they won the WS. Not being at Wrigley is a factor, but still. Absolutely love it.
This might have been one of the best things i've ever seen when it comes to sports even better then when the Cubs actually won the WS and i'm not even a Cubs fan. Just making the World Series was almost like winning it for these fans. Even Red Sox fans in their 86 year drought at least managed to go to the World Series a few times but most everyone in that stadium with the exception of the very old had never seen their team actually make it to the World Series. It's almost moving how in the final few innings the faces of the Cubs fans young and old went from nervousness thinking they were going to blow it again to tears when they realized what they thought would never happen in their lifetimes was actually going to happen.
Honestly, this felt better than winning the World Series. Maybe it’s because it was at the home park but I don’t know
