CSX Worker Tries To Replace Gate Before Amtrak Arrives

Ойын-сауық

This is a video I made in Plant City Florida at the Park Road railroad crossing right after a truck tore a gate off the signal system and a CSX worker racing to install a new crossing gate arm before Amtrak train the Silver Star comes through. Will he make it? Find out and see.

    If there's one thing I've learnt through years of DIY vehicle maintenance and other home fixes... if at first the damn thing doesn't work, just keep bashing it with a wrench and 50% of the time it'll eventually spring back into life. Percussive maintenance, it's more than just an amusing pair of words :D Looks like a pretty thankless task he's doing there, even if you do get a snazzy hi-viz sun hat to wear. I think we can forgive him a bit of frustrated hardware abuse.

    Indeed worker, be safe! With the gate being damaged weekly, they should install cameras capable of reading license so the trucks doing this can be traced down and forced to pay for the damage they are causing. From the way it stands, the railroad company is paying for parts and time it takes the worker to make the repairs that should be born by the person or their company.

    @JuanDia What I was trying to say is the red lights are activating when the CSX worker drops the gate. There is no train coming, and it's confusing to everyone. Another CSX worker should have been on scene assisting with traffic control.

    No driver should need his/her hand held when they encounter a traffic signal that directs them to STOP. So what if the gates/lights were activated. When you see them activated...STOP. It's good practice for the real thing.

    We have to test the crossing after we replace anything. However, we get called 24/7 365. And you maintain your area alone. So at midnight, you do the job on your own. We will do our best to get you around the gates and keep traffic going

    Just my two cents as a broke ass rail fan with no free time: The train definitely knew there was work being done on the signal as it was going somewhat slow. Here on the Union Pacific, there are several rules outside of CGOR 6.32.2(A) which they call "X.H.", meaning the train can proceed at around 35mph but if they notice the signal is malfunctioning, they must stop the train before the intersection. If you are a hardcore railroad person and if I misspeak: I apologize and please correct me. But interesting video! Stay safe!!

    Way I see it the problem here is there shouldn't be a grade crossing at all if street and railroad are that close. Drivers coming from the main street won't see if the gates are closed or not unless they are nearly on the tracks. My point is the state DOT should front some money and build an underpass here. There shouldn't be any grade crossings on streets with so much traffic

  • @illstplaya

    @illstplaya

    well there are many railroad crossings designed like this around the country so I guess they don't see it as a problem but I don't agree with you. but also the drivers need to be paying attention. they should be able to see the red blinking lights that are pointed in their direction on the main street parallel to the tracks.

Railroad has right of way so if they need to stop traffic with the gate down while it's being fixed no big deal. Its the idiot drivers entering the intersection when they can see they can't clear it are the problem.
