Railroad Crossing Malfunction Freaks Out Drivers

Ойын-сауық

This is a video I made of a malfunctioning railroad crossing I came a cross on Florida Ave in Lakeland Florida. Please watch entire video because I do some things that are comical and the people and traffic that ignore the signal system. My Friend DragonMaster91266 was with me videoing across the street in his own video.

I appreciate your love of trains. I love them. However, with that said, let me say this. You made your point with 2 minutes of gate malfunction. After that, what is gained? As for the freaked out drivers, where are they? The only one seemed freaked out and I do not think that is the correct term. You seem irritated more than freaked out.

Great Video Alan! 3 Things to say: 1. It's funny to see drivers reactions to this malfunction. 2. I'm surprised that these long gates have not hit the road yet. 3. Since the traffic light after the crossing is tied in with this crossing, It too must have been screwing uo traffic.

Hi Albert, first thing I do is call the local railroad number on the placard, then my second call is to the local police department in the area where the signal is informing them of the issue at hand and also telling them I have called the railroad number and they are apprised of the situation. If a crossing does this more than once in a few moments, I'm on the phone immediately!

Normally in the uk half barriers such as this are operated buy track circuit occupation by a train & two hydraulic levers (called Treadles) wired in series so for this to happen would require one of those 3 components to fail however all our crossing are fitted with 3 minute times so instead of raising so quickly they remain down for that 3minutes before raising

I know the rail administration here in Norway have some kind of Malfunction mode that tests out the crossing on the same way like this one. the barriers go down every 30 sec. but how many minutes was this going? there is normaly just 5 to 10 minutes here in Norway. if the Crossing works fine it goes back to normal service...

All you need is a piece of wire that reaches both railroad tracks to make the signals go off and gate go down. You can just keep it there and make the crossing malfunction all day or just be a ball buster and mess with traffic without running into the middle of the roads and playing with traffic

That won't happen. I have reported malfunctioning gates and flashers more times than I can count. And there has been several instances when a train came through as the gates started going back up, they did not keep going up, THEY CAME BACK DOWN as soon as the train was in the designated control block. This is why I get honked and cursed at because I REFUSE to drive through a FUNCTIONING Crossing Gate w/Flashers on for this very reason. Good way to get hit by a train not waiting it out!

If y'all notice something in the background the traffic signal at the intersection is malfunctioning with the crossing. Every time the crossing comes and the gates go down the traffic signal in the background goes to it's preempt mode with track Clearance Green, yellow, red; and then to control the side street traffic (Highway Preemption Mode). I kinda feel bad for the people at the intersection dealing with a short cycling traffic light and a malfunctioning crossing signal.

If you see this happening call the emergency hotline number that's on the gate - so the issue can get fixed quicker because there could also be other gremlins present that could keep the gates from working when a train comes.

The part that got zapped is surely the thing that calculates the speed and direction of the approaching train to activate the gates about 25 seconds before the train arrives. If a train is in the block the gates are going down. Cycling in fail safe mode lets cars clear and not go around the gate but keep a cushion in the event a train enters the block at high speed. It's working exactly as designed. I missed the freaked out driver part, though

Good catch! I would have checked the flangeways for anything: moisture, mud, debris, leaves, etc., which may be electrically shunting the rails. Then look to see if anything down the track was causing an electrical shunt. Ever learn the cause? (I cannot watch all.23 minutes.) Thank you.
