Colorado State University Theatre Department production. Directed by Walt Jones; new translation by Walt Jones. The premiere production of a new acting edition of Anton Chekhov’s turn of the last century play, this comedy depicts the life of the three Prozorov sisters and their brother in provincial Russia.
"Chekhov insisted that he wrote comedies and was so angry at his director/collaborator Stanislavski, that he fled the theatre during opening night performances because his plays were being mischaracterized so severely. Yes, there are serious points to be made, and it is also a drama, but the disappointment in life onstage is humorous so long as you aren’t living it." -Walt Jones
The performance was recorded by the RAMProductions student live event production team. RAMProductions was created by the Department of Journalism and Media Communication at Colorado State University with support from Campus Television (CTV), the College of Liberal Arts, and CSU External Relations.

What are the names of the actors? There should be credit given to them in the description or video.
Even though Chekhov, who died in 1904, couldn't have been thinking in these terms, it's impossible for a modern-day viewer of "Three Sisters" not to wonder what became of these people when the catastrophe of 1917 hit. Did Vershinin die at the front in World War I? Was Solyony, the moral nihilist, ultimately attracted to the moral nihilism of Bolshevism? How would the Prozorov sisters react to losing their home and all the middle-class comforts with which they had been raised -- even assuming that they physically survived the Red Terror? I don't know of any other great author whose work has been impacted by subsequent history in quite the way that Chekhov's has been.
Amazing production! But the translation is painful
Can't criticize anything, but I love the actors. Just wanted to take a look out of curiosity, and now I can't leave. (I hope Russian culture will not be canceled in the US and Europe.)

What the hell is '..suck my thumb''?? (9:42)...the correct translation is "..pull my finger''..which refers to farting. Other than that I think it's fine. Although I didn't watch it all.

watch the play you will get it if you pay attention. one sees birch trees everywhere in all good productions of this play, in russia and elsewhere
The "translation" of the script is downright awful. I felt as though everyone is doing a different voice and belongs to a different time period.

I think its a little silly to replace the written words of a renowned playwright with "lame" vernacular from the mid-2010s.

After finishing the entire play, I can't believe how inconsistent the dialogue choices were... I hope this was an undergrad production, because otherwise.....

i agree. the sarah ruhl version of the translation sounds much better. reading that version now

Странное восприятие Чехова. Мне кажется надо очень хорошо изучать культуру страны автора. Мы в России очень бережно относимся к зарубежным классикам. И, прежде чем браться за сценарий , изучаем и время в котором происходит действие и исторические события , и культуру. Безответственно. Или хотели высмеять великую пьесу Чехова и посмеяться над русскими?
