    @@seradar5000 Well, many people don't know my most favourite actor Daniel Day-Lewis because he's very protective of his life. But you wouldn't say that the level of fame defines your talent, would you? I bet you haven't heard of Sir John Gielgud and still he is considered one of the greatest thespians of the London stage. So, it's really about being involved in the world of theatre and cinema and less about the celebrity status. We’re talking here about the talent and the craft, at the end of the day.

    Have seen Vanya recently and damn, Andrew Scott is so fucking talented. This play, All of Us Strangers, his Hamlet monologue (can be found on YT), everything he touches turns gold. Brilliant human being

    Checkov revised. Uncle Vanya is one of the most cherished roles for an actor. He is of the right age to play this part. Checkov play explores the dangers of working too hard, or too little.

    Love love love everything he does or just listening to him in interviews! Genius applies here. In Sherlock, he was inspired and fascinating. I am glad he is young and we have so much to see from this actor! Can’t wait for this one in theaters!

    If you look up National Theatre At Home, you will find it is very easy to subscribe to the NTl streaming service for a reasonable monthly or annual sub, especially when you consider theatre ticket price these days. This makes the entire NT archive available to watch when, and as many times, as you want to watch online.

    I subscribe to the National Theatre at Home from Canada, but it's not quite the same, I know. I'm hoping it will eventually end up there so I can watch it again and again and again. Just brilliant!

    I just came back from seeing this, and it was wonderful. This clip is really misleading. He is simply brilliant in this, but they took a clip from Vanya’s entrance, which is by far the most overacted part in a 2-hour tour de force. His portrayals of Helena, and especially of Sonya are wonderful, understated, heartbreaking. I’ve been following him since Sherlock, and he has been great in everything I’ve seen. I also recommend All of Us Strangers. Brilliant.

    I agree. His Helena is something to behold, and so touching. And what about his rendition of the Jacques Brel song? Ne Me Quitte Pas (If You Go Away) is one of my favourite songs, and I will always remember this rendition - utterly heartbreaking.

    @@Belaugh The fuckin FRIDGE- seriously the whole show was so wonderful his talent is absolutely NUTS man. The scene where he switches between like 6 different characters, he got me to remember all their names somehow?? I forget names in normal adaptations, let alone that mindfuck, absolutely terrifying, I feel the need to watch everything he’s ever been in

    His HELENA👏🏼 when he first walked on as her I knew INSTANTLY that that was a woman. It was incredible. The physicality, the little mannerisms all so spot on. Same with his Sonya- just so mind blowingly accurate. Already wishing I could see this again!

    Yes, that "Present Laughter" (with, again, a knockout performance from Andrew Scott) is not currently available for home viewing is deeply galling and frustrating! Why? Copywright/Ownership/Rights issues?? Or something? Would SO like to see that again!

    @@fiddleandfart When did it come out? If it's currently touring then it probably won't be available for home viewing for a year or so. They don't really upload their shows for streaming until after it's finished being performed. I'm personally still waiting for Life of Pi.

    Хм, на мой взгляд выбрали не самый удачный клип для промо. Оставляет с ощущением, что весь спектакль состоит из кривляний неубедительных, и смотреть не возникло желания... Дядя Ваня - одна из любимых пьес у Чехова, он писал о том, что наблюдал своими глазами, живя в деревне. И все эти сложности человеческих отношений, конечно, можно перенести и в современность, ведь они вечны по сути... Но не зацепило :( Хотя Скотта люблю

    I guess a lot of people's "great in everything he does" is some other people's "over acting to the degree that it distracts from the material." Am I supposed to be following the story or thinking about whatever mad thing the actor is going to do with their hands and face next? Somebody, please, reign this guy in.

    Which is why it was a sellout, has been brought to cinema as a landmark production and won awards, both for the production and the actor. So look again, try to just go with what you are seeing, then ask why it is being interpreted the way it is.
