Fun fact, I have bunch of hollowed out whole egg shells because Mexicans use them to decorate for Easter. We dye them and fill them confetti and seal with tissue. So I made the opening hole bigger and just left the shell whole in the tank plus adding the crushed shell. The fish be hiding in there is so cute.

Lol That's a good idea.

I do this every weekend my husband likes to have eggs for breakfast so I take the shells clean them up real good put them in the microwave for about 15 seconds to get them nice and dried out crush them up to almost to powder and put in my tanks I've been doing this for a few months and it really seems to help so I'll continue to do so tank looks really good!

I do the same thing in my tank. It's good for my mystery snails and mollies and plants too! I crush some fine and some course to hide behind the rocks where the snails can munch at them whenever they want.

I have 5 Amano shrimps that ate these… … And now I have 5 lobsters.

Just watched this for the 1st time, & indeed, love the nail polish. Playing dad, im pretty sure.

That was very interesting, thank you...As an add-on, I do the same with egg shells and add about 1 teaspn per day to me dog's feed. Seems OK to me! I have just purchased 2 nerite snails for my tank and will do the same for them... :>)

How is your tank so clear?

Would dropping these in your canister filter work? Drop them in between your coarse and fine foams so they dont blow into the tank.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. In fact, the eggshells would probably dissolve faster with the constant water flow.

You can also use a cuddle done .

I live in an area with really soft water- Pacific NW. I only have a 9 gallon so I suspect I should only add like 1/2 or 1/4 eggshell?

I'm not sure how much an eggshell raises hardness, so I'd just crush one or less up and see what happens over time.

What if my platies eat it while it sinking down? is it going to harm any fish?

No, they'll spit it out. At least I've never had any issues. Fish always check it out, but I never thought they'd actually swallow any of it.

Dolomite will raise your pH. I've never had my pH shift from eggshells. (having said that, it's probably because eggshells don't do a lot in a aquarium)

I don't really have a formula or do it on a regular basis. I'd say 4 or 5 shells if I was doing it in my 55.

Remove your java ferns. They are notorious for getting all the minerals.
