CRUISE CONTROL TO MAJOR TOM - How to Wire LS SWAP Cruise Control Using RECYCLED CONNECTOR - UTX

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today at Ugly Truck, we're commencing countdown, engines on. We're wiring up the cruise control on the 1985 Chevy C10 LS swap using the original PCM and harness for the 5.3 and 4L60E. We had the donor truck still sitting here, so we recycled a body harness connector and some wires to build a cruise control harness that looks nice and can easily be unplugged, if needed. Plus, it's budget friendly! It's a little complicated, but if you study the wiring diagrams and double check all of your connections, it's pretty easy. And if you need anything, just ask our shop dog, Ripley. She's here to help!

    Incredibly informative videos!! I just found your channel but I have been watching all your videos on the LS swap. I should really be asleep right now but I can’t stop watching 😂🤣😂 I have a 1985 c10 swb that I have had since I was in high school 1999-2002. I have been wanting to do the LS swap to it but do not have the knowledge or time to do it. Would like to get it done so that my oldest son can drive it in a few years when he turns 16. Not looking to make it fast, just something dependable that sounds good. I have been looking to find someone to do the swap for me but it can be hard to trust someone that just says they can do it. After watching these videos it’s very clear that you know what you are doing. I live about 4 hours from the area you said you are located. If I could bring my truck to you, would you be willing to do the swap? It looks like you have a lot going already so I understand if you are not interested. Either way, I’m loving the videos and look forward to watching this channel grow!

    Great Video! I', thinking though...the way that you have the normally closed brake signal wired into that relay, the relay is energized all of the time when the vehicle is running. You could have run that wire through pin 30 and 87A, and then used a simple signal from your brake light switch (which is right in the same vicinity) on pin 85 to open that connection. That way the relay would only be energized when you step on the brakes.

  • @UglyTruckExperience

    @UglyTruckExperience

    Hello Jeff. You are correct. I use that method when wiring up a truck that did not originally have cruise control. On the ones that were equipped with cruise I use this method just to keep my cruise circuit separate from any other circuit. On this one, the relay will only have power when the cruise is on. If I was wiring one up for myself, I would wire it like you described. These are going back to customers that are hundreds of miles away, so I try to isolate the circuits in case someone has to work on it in the future. Thanks for watching. We appreciate it. Jerry

Already have the cruise control module mounted on the firewall and the cable connected to the throttle body. Have not got it running yet so have not messed with the cruise control wiring at all yet. Walk to this rabbit hole with me. If you were to use the factory LS harness and c100 connector: * The dark blue wire would go to position A: Set Cruise. * The Grey wire would go to position L: Cruise On. * The Dark Green wire (Grey/Black wire in the factory LS C100 connector) would go to position S: Cruise Resume. What throws me for a loop is that on a regular DBW standalone harness the only other wire that would need to be connected is the Light Blue wire which is in the C2 Connector, Position A10. I wanted to get a second opinion but I'm pretty sure that your 87A Light Blue wire: Cruise Release would get tee'd into this wire from the C2 Connector and the Cruise Control option and TCC Brake should work accordingly.

    Most of the wiring diagrams for those that I have seen are not correct. The wiring that goes to the CHMSL is normally open and the one that goes to the brake switch is normally closed booking down the road with your foot not on the brake. When you apply the brake, it just does the opposite. No power to CHMSL and power to brake signal at the throttle actuator. I have checked it with the actual donor and confirmed that. There are other way's to wire it, but this is the way I prefer to do it. It is built in for some redundancy to make sure everything is all good. Jerry

    I did the LS swap into my 61 Pontiac. Used the original 2004 Silverado harness , fuse box, TAC module and Cruise switch. My cruise doesn't work. I supplied keyed power directly to the switch. (used the O2 sensor downstream circuit) I checked It at the C100 connector. The switch functions properly ...tested all four wires for power when pressed, etc .. The original CHMSL wire C2 A-10 is wired from the fuse box to TAC module as it was in the factory harness. I didn't touch it. I wired purple C1 C12 TCC signal wire to the dual function brake switch with power on when pedal is not depressed. That was tested and works. I tested the original CHMSL wire C2 A-10 and there is no power to it. Does the computer power that wire up when the vehicle is in motion or something? Scratching my head. Where does C2 C12 get its power from? I think that might be my problem. Do I also have to connect the C3 A5 purple TCC Brake / signal wire to the brake switch?

  • @UglyTruckExperience

    @UglyTruckExperience

    4 ай бұрын

    Hey Bill. It sounds like you have it wired correctly. As long as you have power at C2 A10 with brake on and power off at C1 C12 you have it wired correctly. You are probably going to have to wire a resistor into the CHMSL circuit. That will give it the impression that the brake lamp and chmsl bulbs are not burnt out and let the cruise control apply. I use the same little gold resistors that people use for the led lights to keep them from hyper flashing. You could also wire in a light bulb just to test this theory. Add a wire from C2 A10 through the resistor or bulb with the other lead from resistor going to ground. I bet cruise will work after that. The powertrain diagram does not show that extra circuit on that truck. It is shown in the exterior wiring circuit but still a complicated circuit. Let me know. Hope this helps. Jerry
