Crucifix Submission Options | Jiu-Jitsu Submissions

The Crucifix is such a dominant position, but I get lots of questions about submission options from there, particularly without the gi. In this video I show how to set it up and some of my favorite options from the crucifix, some standard and some unorthodox. Hope you like it!

I ended up in the crucifix and while doing a live roll. I really wasn’t sure how to submit the guy from there. Thx for this information.
Eli, you do a fantastic job of seamlessly walking through the moves. Keep up the good work, brother!

im really great at transitioning to salaverry or crucifix but i’ve been learning to utilize it better and faster this has helped
0:40 entry from turtle position 1:30 first check for the armbar 1:51 rear choke with one arm 2:23 opponent turns chin, buggy-type choke 3:05 leg trapped, entry into head arm guillotine choke 3:59 back take for rear triangle 5:01 north south choke
His grimaces are awesome.
Excellent. It gives me a couple of options from the crucifix that I didn't have before.
Me being just a lil guy, ive been playing with the crucifix a lot lately. These are like you said, sort of unconventional attacks, which is always good lol.. really like that north south setup!

One of my go to positions. Love it
One of the best tutorials I've seen, this is insane!
Nice! Thanks for another great video
So fluid 🤯👏👏
I love setting up from Kesa, great video
One of my favorite positions thanks for the tips 🙏 💯
i love the cricifix position, really under rated position. I have difficulty getting into the position, but it helps me hold back control against bigger guys so much better instead of going for the back. i do my best to practice getting into the position as often as possible though (until the pandemic came :(
This is so advanced, great technique ty
Beautiful series 👌🏾

Love the crucifix and I haven’t seen a lot of these transitions and I watch a lot of Marcelo Garcia! Great stuff. A move you can add, and I can think of a lot, is when they are turtles in the crucifix and the grab around your leg nearest their legs and you do a forward roll putting your non choking arm across their chest to the armpit as you roll to get a slick kimura. You can also get this from laying in the crucifix on your back and they reach around the same leg you can sit up and get your arm across their chest to prevent sitting up.
Iv been doing karate and jujitsu for years this helps a lot

Interesting. I'm gonna try this if they become available next time I'm rolling

Nice 👏👍👌🖒🖒
this position is nasty😳
Once I get that one leg, I am in deep half guard to which I always get out. I have three ways of escaping once you give me that leg. My three variant no-gi, deep half guard sweeps are in full effect, bruh! Thanks for the cool crucifix moves though!

I definitely agree that deep half is close. The person on the back has to watch out to keep it shut down for sure.

i'm a white belt playing with different things and my friend and i were rolling and i somehow got him into a crucifix, i didn't know how to submit him and lost the position so here i am.
Hi! Had a question, was the hold that Gary goodridge did back then a different one? Or is that one outdated and this is a more effective way? Thanks!
👏👏👏👏👏
After watching this my sparring partner is gonna get a big medical bill tmrw
Thank you for sharing. One note is that it’s kind of hard to see when both wearing black. Black on black contrast is a little hard to tell what’s what.

My daughter 15yr is a white belt. She has been doing BJJ since May of this year. She is very small about 5'0 155lbs. She had her 1st BJJ tournament last weekend and got manhandled. She only faced boys and they had about 11 to 13 inches on her. She wants to do another tournament next month. How can I help her prepare if she ends up in the same situation?
@KnightJiuJitsu
3 жыл бұрын
That’s a hard situation to prepare for. To give away that much size and strength she would need to be exponentially more technical than them. It would be better, in my opinion, to avoid small tournaments where that type of grouping is more likely to happen. Larger tournaments are more likely to have some females her size for her to compete against.
Nice tech, thanks Eli. We had a debate about this a couple weeks ago and was wondering your thoughts on the matter-- is the crucifix a dominant enough position that it deserves to be awarded points in competition?
@KnightJiuJitsu
3 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely a super dominant position. But they are so picky about back positions in competition, that I don’t know. If you can’t get points for a body triangle then I would say probably not for crucifix either.
@counterhit121

@@KnightJiuJitsu I hear you, but let's say you made the rules. There's no "they" or you are "they." Points for crucifix then or nah?
@KnightJiuJitsu
3 жыл бұрын
If I were making the rules then yes. Positional control based off of controlling the hips and shoulders of the opponent in a dominant way would be sufficient in my opinion, so the crucifix would definitely meet that criteria.
Saucy
Yes I have a question, same one I've asked twice I think before, can you review how to escape the crucifix.

So basically the two obvious submissions, pretzel attacks, or position advancement
Avoid black on black for demonstration purposes. The lack of contrast makes it harder to see especially if the resolution isn't great. Otherwise, nice job.
