@sydmccreath4554at are you taking about?? Peanuts are an energy- and nutrient-dense food. Fiber, protein and fat help keep you feeling energized. They deliver an impressive dose of important nutrients like folate, magnesium, potassium, and iron. Every bird who eats plant material goes for the peanuts first. Even prefer them over corn, for many species. Parrots and Crows love peanuts for being more of a payoff than manyvother foods. Seeds in general are a jackpot item for many animals. Nature doesn't suffer fools. Pandas are the only vegetarian bear because it's better to be an omnivore. Koalas are the only creature that lives solely off eucalyptus because it's a terrible food source. Low nutritional foods have to be either plentiful or unwanted for a species to focus on them exclusively, and the vast majority of animals will get more excited and greedy for something with loads of fat and calories. Per ounce peanuts are a highly desired food source for animals thay can eat them.

Sometimes the peanut shells can be quite hard. So I crack them with my hands a little to make it easier for the crow to open it. Also, I read somewhere that you should only give crows unsalted peanuts, for what that's worth.

  • @sergioortiz8219

the bad thing about cracking open the shell is that if they cache the peanut, then moisture can get in, or ants, so by the time they come back for it, it may be spoiled or gone.

These two usually stuff down four at a time and won't accept me walking out with any less than eight peanuts for them to split. I wish I knew for sure which is the male and which is the female, but the best I can figure is that the one that is more timid and jumpy around me is the female and the piggy that boldy scarfs down peanuts three feet away from me is the male. I'll never be able to tell by appearance alone 🤣

  • @kestrelsandcrows6871

@@featheredfriendzy Your crows look very similar, when they are both together. Yeah, I think the best guess is by behavior. Males are said to be more dominant, which is the case with my visitors. I guess with crows there is a large variation and maybe sometimes the female is the bold one? I don't know. I saw the male bringing food while the female was incubating the eggs. I am lucky that he has a white spot above one eye (I have some videos on my channel). The American crows sound quite different than our carrion crows. And they look different. Very elegant, they are beautiful.

No, it’s an American Crow which is different, larger than the European Crow. Although very similar to American Crows, Ravens are a bit larger with thicker plumage and a thicker, crooked bill.

Yup, the large size of American crows can be confusing. Adding to the above, notice how tidy the crow's plumage is. It's hard to see when they take off, but the crow has a square tail as opposed to a wedge shaped tail on the common raven
