Feeding Hundreds of Crows for $4

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

What better way to spend $4 than to head to my local Walmart where all my hundreds of crow friends hang out and feed them some din din. In this video I do what the title says and feed hundreds of crows.
Around 5pm each night, hundreds and sometimes thousands of crows meet at this location. I feed them at least once a week.
Feeding crows has always been a past time for me and I love it. Crows are awesome!

Any kind of nuts really. I got into the habit of giving them hazelnuts in the shells. Not only do they love them, they enjoy the challenge of cracking them open. They'll fly up and drop them from 40 feet, it's fun. Experience tells me the hierarchy of what they enjoy: 1. eggs, cheese. 2. just about any meat. Old chicken bones will do. They'll pick at those for a while. 3. nuts and pet foods, 4. bread or crumbs, 5. junk food like chips and crackers and fries. By the time you get this low on the totem pole, they might start ignoring your food. 6. fruits, rice, which they'll pick at a little bit 7. green veggies, they'll ignore mostly unless there's butter or grease on them

Everyone looks at me like I'm crazy, because I always have peanuts and cat food in my car to feed crows everywhere I go. Maybe it's because I try talking to them in their own language, which is fascinating by the way. A complex series of different numbered notes and sounds with different meanings. @@JMGENTERPRISES I called mine with kissy noises and pursing lip sounds as suggested in a video on You Tube. They know they are "crows" and when I would see them I would look at them and talk to them nicely then ask them if they wanted a treat. I would set it out and then leave my deck. They are shy at first. I had set out fresh water every day in a shallow bowl so no other little critter could drown. And that got them coming to my deck for drinks first. If you wait until you see them to put out the food they will associate you with the treat. They call me now. Three times a day, sometimes four. They are spoiled. :) I hope someday to pet them, but they are too skittish for that yet. They like to be pet on the head and neck, that simulates grooming and they cannot reach their own heads and necks so they rely on their family and mates to do that for them. It puts them in a trance.... I will let mine make a move to be closer to me. Their trust is more important. :)

I live in a very small town in Germany and like 50m from my house is a small forest part, where usually ppl go to walk their dogs. So i started feeding birds, especially crows, jays and magpies during the winter months. Now its the 3rd year i do this, every 2nd day after work. I either collect leftover bread from work/house, buy natural cereal (which is by far cheaper than designated bird food for whatever reason), raisins/older fruit (like apples, pears, peaches, kiwis, bananas) and ofc nuts/seeds which r cheaper to buy. I noticed crows n magpies like peanuts and sunflower seeds. Nevertheless the birds know me very well. So whenever im on my way to that forest the birds catch up on me and fly out of their way first to call their collony that i am sharing food again. Then more and more birds start calling and come by and rest on the top of the trees right next to me. The biggest bird colony, like jays, often times start flying in very big colonies/flocks, it look like their dancing for me, are excited for food and or are showing thankfullness to me. Usually the birds leave me alone most of the time, only rarely i catch 2-5 birds on the path who are impulsive and fly down near me to start eating. They deliberatly wait till im finished distributing the food. How often i wanted them to just come dowm to me but no. I made my peace with that, cs i know, 5 minutes after i left and sit on my porch, i start hearing flocks of different birds screaming, singing for food and everytime I come back, the foods already eaten mostly. Everytime I leave the place, some of the birds do follow me right until my own house, maybe they wanna know where i live or. Last winter they got so used to me, that they started flocking on my house roof and the roofs of my neighborhoods. But my neighbors complained about the noise and bird poop so i stopped feeding them in my own garden. Plus this year, as if the birds catched up on that, they rarely follow me/stay by the roofs near me. Also this year around im seeing bird nests all over that small forest part. Its so cute watching them and their behavior i really grew fond of birds. Its like each time I spend time gsrdening/feeding/looking after animals/garden i feel more in tune with myself and the whole world, its truly a spiritual experience each an every time, id suggest EVERYONE to try it out, instead of getting black out drunk/ using weed&drugs every weekend. Its such a humbling and special experience, i call out everyone to try it - be it even if you live in an apartment in a big city - you still encounter pigeons n other birds arent you? Try it out, you wont regret it. Generally my family has a big garden around our house and it is important to us to have a lot of plants - my mom and i start late winter/ early spring to plant every kind of garden plants + flowers + we grow lots of own food, like cucumbers, zucchinis, tomatoes, parsley, garlic, sunflowers, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, other berries Idk the english words for, grapes and we have 3 Apple trees and 1 pear tree. Thus we help greatly the insect, bee and animal population to keep alive. Its like our calling and a great hobby at that. Plus at my work (nursing home) i help several patients, who are disabled to buy food for their animals, mainly dogs and parrots - I buy the essentials for them &they give me the money back. Plus i personally breed maine coon cats, we keep 5 of them permanently at our house + I feed several stray cats, who come visit our house/garden daily. Ive always felt that my calling in life was to help the animals/nature in my own environment.

When I was homeless, I used to feed crows every other day or so at the same spot. When I would get off the bus, they would start following me, above on the power lines, while I walked a few blocks to the parking lot where I fed them. I should note: the seagulls and crows would often fight, crows would dive bomb seagulls to get them away from the food. Also, there are A LOT of one legged crows in my area, I've always wondered why.

I started throw out in the backyard the leftovers from dinner. I was visiting my daughter at the time. Every day they would gather in the trees around. Then i went home. My daughter decided to feed them and that day had a lot of meat scraps. So she threw those out , went back in to do something for a minute and when she looked out to see if the crowd found the meat she was shocked. Only a couple of minutes had passed but her yard was full of huge vultures in the trees and on the ground. It happened so fast the crows didnt have a chance to know it was there.

@@JMGENTERPRISES I make pancakes as it's cloudy these days due to monsoon. With clear sky, I bake the mixture in a solar oven for a couple of hours & it comes out as a nice chunk. If allowed to cool, it doesn't stick to the vessel at all because of the fat content of yolks, so cleaning is super easy (I use stainless steel bowl / baking tray). Saves time & fuel too & requires no supervision. If I cook boiled eggs, I remove the cooked yolk & mix it with rice flour manually, then add water & blend it. This one comes out even better than the raw yolk blend when thrown in the solar oven. If you get a chance to try any of these please upload a video.

Wow, that is a lot of crows, maybe more than 1,000 in the end.. I feed crows too, but they live in my neighbourhood, with 2 couples and their kids and maybe a few cousins every now and again so only maybe about 7 I'll see regularly. They sit on my roof and call me when they're ready for dinner, and sometimes even call me just to watch the sunset with them while they sit in the tree like romantic ninjas. My English crows sound different to yours, less harsh, more soft and melodic and each has their own tone, so I can recognise them, and call to them and sing to them too sometimes which they like. Thanks for sharing your video of feeding 100s of American crows, you certainly have a lot of mouths to feed as your buddies there! 😎👍🐦
