Giving Our Crow A Wrapped Present
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Trixie, our ambassador African pied crow, LOVES a good wrapped present. She enjoys food sure, but she also loves getting a variety of small toys, interesting rocks, pebbles, crystals, small sticks, you name it! Half the fun is the destruction of tearing apart the paper.

I never had a doubt that crows were smart, but seeing them figure out that they have to tear the paper to get at the goodies that quickly was incredible. We don't give crows enough credit for their cleverness.

This is a bit assumptive. You have no clue what a bird likes or doesn’t like. She has the intelligence of a small child and is strongly motivated by toys and trinkets. She’s cautious of this one because it’s larger than she typically gets, and she’s cautious of any large unknown item. Perhaps if you ask next time you could learn something new about the animal and their behavior we’re always happy to help people understand her better 😊
@truthntelling

@@darkwingswildlife It is you that is CLUELESS and in NO POSITION to tell others how to "understand her better". You are an arrogant LIAR. Countless people are pointing out how disappointed BOTH the bird and us viewers are to not be able to see the bird enjoy the find of what was wrapped. And you continue to justify your selfish oversight telling others they lack understanding. You are only compounding how irrational and self-serving you are.
Crow: "After all that work, no Kung Pao shrimp??"
Bird thinks " i wish i had some freakin arms " 😊
She's pissed, because after going to all that work getting the package open, there's no food in it. HA. 😄

when i had our 2 rescue crows, we would always hide their food inside somewhere and have them figure out how to get it out. And of course, their first idea is to move it around and if that doesnt work, peck and rip it apart. Its a good way to play with them and use their intelligence

And she did that with just her beak .Bravo. Some presents that I got for Christmas took all of my fingers and teeth to get open :)
What a bright bird; Trixie managed to get that toy unwrapped in less than 4 minutes! I have not previously seen crows with a white band of feathers around the lower neck. In the northeast US their plumage is completely black.

I love how Trixie dropped the box to help get the paper off. I've watched crows drop clams that they've dug out of the tidal mud of a nearby creek down onto concrete so that the shell will break open. The crow then eats the clam meat. That's fun. Watching them drop small snakes is a little more unnerving and makes you avoid walking under trees. Loved the video though. Thanks!

In my geographical area Crows scavenge our Chestnuts when in Season. They're fairly hard shelled so the Crows drop them on the streets with flowing traffic then land on nearby Hydro Lines & wait for cars to crush them. Extremely clever animals & fascinating to watch.
The intelligence is amazing!

So smart, what a beautiful creature! The crows we have in my neck of the woods are fully black and also smart as the dickens , I just love them. Had a “pet” one as a kid named him Fred, he was wild but would land on my head or arm, and spoke a few words. I would give him/her love and treats and Fred would bring me clothes pins and shiny things on occasion.
I adore birds. Would love to have a crow friend
She's so smart! 🧠
They are such clever little critters. I've had the pleasure of getting to know an African Pied named Friar Tuck who lives at Dollywood. @@darkwingswildlifeIn this case, yes. But, I've seen other videos where crows add stones to water to make their treats float within reach. Here, the crow understands that a particular way of yanking the wrapping paper will leave the box itself behind - Kinda like the magician's trick pulling out the table cloth. She tried it more than once, including yanking the box to try and leave the ball behind, but the ball was in too tight. So it was obvious she had figured the inertia part out. p.s. thank you for the video - it was fun to watch.
Similar approach to opening packages to my own.

I live in the UK in a semi rural property with a 2 acre field. Over here we have Carrion Crows, ravens, jackdaws and magpies. We don't get Ravens here where I live but we get crows, magpies and jackdaws. I love Corvids. They are such intelligent birds. I put food out in the field for them and make a clicking sound with my tongue. The 2 'resident' crows are the first to arrive and sit in a nearby tree to claim the food. The magpies dance around on the edges waiting for the crows' attention to be elsewhere then they sneak in and grab the nearest bit of food. The other magpies then instead of grabbing a piece of food themselves often chase the magpie who has grabbed some and fly off after it!! I could watch them fo hours!!
