I agree with you about it's visuals, as i am am just re painting my own stuff in my own house, but at least 3 coats is not to bad, but not as good as oil based glossed.

Oil based paint won't be around in a few years time, when they reduced the VOC content in it a few years back it started going yellow in (some cases) a matter of days, there will be another round of reductions coming and then I reckon oil based products will be phased out after a few years and will only be available as specialist primers.

I agree with what you say about the MDF...recently used the fastflow gloss and undercoat over my doors at home which were a pale grey/beige acrylic eggshell.. they were oil yrs before but wet n dry then zinsser them up.. this time I prepped them up washed down and left till next day..over course of 4 days 2 undercoat and 4 glosses.. ridiculous.. never use it again.. lucky didnt have to adjust my door hinges amount of layers..!!! I've used the satin on jobs which isnt anywhere as bad... crown were useless when I complained.. get in touch where I got it from.. wasnt going to take it out on brewers as they've been good to me over the years.. think I'll take brewers advice and try little greene. . But so many companies have poor covering with white trim paints .. Great vid mate..

Thanks for sharing. I have used the Leyland acrylic undercoat and gloss. It is also water based and requires multiple coats to achieve anything like a decent finish. Of course, as you say, it will never be as good a finish as oil based, but it does dry very quickly and the clean up is easy. Personally, I always prime mdf - even the good stuff - with BIN or Blockade before applying undercoat. One thing is for sure, I'd never use water based on woodwork outdoors. I've done so in the past, and it just isn't capable of withstanding the elements.

But as you say, coat of acrylic then the undercoat then the top....or acrylic then two satin on top. Basically all new paint is shit.

Hi Mate, I'm a Decorator with 30plus years experience and cannot stand this crazy fast flow acrylic base u/c and gloss bullshit is pointless and its just about being environmental friendly. I got out of new build because the prices are hard enough to make it worth it,then they throw acrylic in the works and hinders your hard earned graft trying to get a great finish and get paid fair. Keep oil base and satinwood or gloss anyway but saying this they use this crap armstead products on site jobs too. For me redec jobs is what I'm mainly doing nowadays simply because the money isn't a lot in it on site work, plus not so much pressure to hit your target in new build. Hence why I prefer day work now also. Thats my personal preferences in this trade.Even the money is getting worse on price jobs. Maybe I am wrong now. Keep up your posts they are honest and I like you revealing how shite this industry is becoming and don't start me on site foremen pen pushers bollox lol who thrive on snagging the tradesman and holding this £100 per plot too is a joke. 🤣

it's a 4 coat system on new wood or that MDF shit, two undercoats and two top coats (always need two top coasts regardless) but it flows so much better than oil it really makes the jobs easier and faster. Probably more suitable to domestic re-decs and not house bashing.... hence crown has a paint for new builds.. basically you're using the wrong product.

As a DIY'er I think water based Gloss is brilliant. So easy to use. Main advantage is you can wash bushes in water ( or cling film for next day use). And no stirring. Admittedly the finish isn't Glossy but can improve it using a synthetic brush ( Hamilton) and a little spray of water ( may be a miniscule amount of detergent ) on the surface before applying.
