Crowded House - Sister Madly - Letterman show
Музыка
This appearance was taped off of David Letterman's Late Show in July of 1990, but I think it was a repeat show so I'm not sure when it originally aired. Gotta love Crowded House no matter where you find them.

neil finn deserves to spoken of in the same way as lennon and mccartney he is incredible and so overlooked, temple of low men, woodface and together alone are as good a trilogy of albums any band has ever done

@@sirandrelefaedelinoge as a Brit I would say the majority of the uk population for one ,I would be amazed if 1/20 uk people even knew who Neil Finn was plus they only ever had modest chart success over here

Neil & Tim, massively overlooked and phenomenal songwriters. Couldn't agree more.
Songs like this really show Paul's jazz background. What an amazing groove with brushes.
People seem to forget that Letterman was a great fan and promoted CH in America by having them on as guests many times.
I'm so thankful for this band.
Miss you Paul ❤️ you were always smiling and making everyone smile and feel great. Thanks Paul 🙏🏼🇺🇸
I love how Paul does that "Curley Three-Stooges-esque" whhhooooo at the end of the song. God rest his soul.
I saw them in Canada on tour for this album. They were superb musically & hilarius in places. Paul Hester especially. When they performed Niel's beautiful Split Enz song "Message To My Girl".. my good friend/long-time musician/sound engineer looked over and said "this guy is the Paul McCartney songwriter of our generation". And the decades since have proven Neil Finn is not just that but a songsmith of the ages just as Lennon-McCartney, Buckingham-Nicks or Gershwin.

I’ve only just found this (live 1990) and it’s the same year I got to see them. they did a one time CBGBs that was the same day announcement/ show & we went! amazing show; even years later it shocks me I got to see that particular band, small venue!
Great performance. Richard Thompson plays the guitar solo on the studio version of this song.
God, I miss Paul Hester!

Before the horrible onset of autotune. Nice to be able to hear a band replicate their album sound acoustically. There were very albums I could listen to from beginning to end. Two were CH's first two albums. RIP Paul.
Great shuffle beat track. CH were master practitioners of that particular art.
I had no idea they were this famous. Their songs are awesome.

Zeal spunky Huh? Crowded House was one of the biggest pop acts of the 80's, all over the world. You missed that, huh? ;)

Zeal spunky What? My fav band of all time
crowded house superb here ,but the inhouse lead guitarist has such an impressive feel. great muso to be able to slot in so seemlessly.
Crowded House were always able to maintain that earthy sound and remain low -key in their music stylings but could still fill the auditorium with their sound !! ENJOY!!
Absolutely love that sound!! Such talented guys!
Saw this the night it aired and have loved this song ever since!!
Pure class. Greetings from England UK 🇬🇧🏴🤟
Every Letterman performance was excellent. Paul & the boys really sounded good with them...
OUTSTANDING performance! Man I love Crowded House
One of my favourite ❤
i saw or read an interview with Neil with him saying that he would love to cover a Beatles song, as they were a big influence on him when he was a kid. he DID actually get to do just that. if you look on youtube for "Neil Finn Nowhere Man" he does it real justice! okay, so Milli Vanilli are singing backup, but it's still damned amazing! :-) Neil is the reason i picked up my guitar and learned to play that song.
So fucking awesome...
i LOVE that too!! i wish i'd been able to see CH when Paul was still with them, but sadly it never happened. he was their funny bone, to be sure!
best live concert I ever saw, both times. amazing.
John T - from the first album, people were making the comparisons. Crowded House were brilliant - and their brilliant final concert at the Opera House was a bittersweet experience.
Glorious!
Great performance! Never heard this song before!
Holy crap! I so remembering watching this segment on Letterman . . . I think it either 89 or '90 . . . all I remember was being so flipping happy to watch!!
What an absolute bunch of geniuses!
Neil eres mi artista favorito
I remember seeing this on TV at the time. One of their best jobs.
They would have blown true music fans' minds over there.
@notoriouskitty1 Neil wrote this song about his sister, who shared a bedroom with him at some stage. She would occasionally have nightmares and wake up in a state of paranoia, screaming at the top of her lungs. This would usually wake up everyone in the Finn residence.
i love all live Crowded House/Split Enz stuff, and this one blows me away! thanks, morrisonAV for posting this!! i missed it the first time around (as i missed a lot of their early stuff). btw, Neil is still HOT as all get out. i was honored to meet him last August in Austin, TX and even at 53 (10 years older than myself), he is still a genious songwriter and an all around good ol' boy as we say in TX. and did i say he was still hot?? LOL
Hey Savoo01......Thankyou for the explanation...Its always been one of my favorite songs and ive always been curious about it..till now that is :) Thankyou.
Awesome!
Such a great band. Agree w/ John T's comment. Neil is one of the best pop/rock songwriters of all time. And an incredibly charming man on stage, have seen many times both w/ Crowdies, solo and w/ Tim. Yeah.....damn shame about Paul, great talent and funny dude.
Very Doug Anthong All Stars! LOL But I love Crowded House!
I was looking fot a mint copy of this GREAT POST!!!
I love LIVE shows - real talent can play out
Grandissimi!!
Fantastic stuff! Watching this puts a huge smile on my face. We miss you Hessie.
omg I LOVE U
Did you see that? Nick looked right at me! This is such a fun song.

were you in the audience ? or do you mean through the screen right now!? Hey no judgements here and i'm just enjoying the beautiful song SMILE LUV!!
morrisonAV Ah, coming through for me again with priceless Neil Finn video! Thank you so much! I never was much of a fan of Dave's but I have to say the band is full of crackerjack musicians, especially Will Lee.
@savvo01 is that for real? i've never heard that before, but the intro to this song on their Farewell To The World '96 DVD, Neil says something about "waking up in a room with my sister having nightmares". weird! awesome song!!
Quality........
yeah, I think he sings 'systematically stepping on my head'
big hair, high cymbals, and a floyd rose term on Sid's guitar.. this was 1990 for sure!
if you're talking about the main guitarist, that would be none other than Neil Finn. he is the greatest and most sensitive singer/songwriter/musician of our time.
I've seen a few videos recently of early Crowded House where Nick is playing guitar - did he not always play bass??
GREAT SONG CHOICE!
We saw Crowded house in KC a couple years ago. It just wasn't the same without Hessie.
Cool. When was this?
who's the lead guitarist , he's got a great feel.
@ramadarose41 Well, I can't confirm that she used to wake up the whole house, but yes, his sister used to have nightmares and wake up screaming.
weirdly disconnected audio with mouths
Quick question....does anyone know what this song is about??
Dave had to back announce the song, he clearly goes to chat with Neil after that. Why does everyone judge Letterman's reaction more than the performance itself? It's so petty.
Who else has scene the some of us??. Classic aussie movie
everyone needs a good drummer...
The guys are brilliant here as ever--but I really got my money's worth in "wayback points" from seeing Dave wander out to shake their hands with an LP jacket in his hands. :-)
@morrisonAV: This is why I'm not into "downloading music" - I LIKE PACKAGING with my music; I LIKE ART & WORDS & PICTURES with my music!!! Me BUY - DJ
I wonder why Nick Seymour isn't playing bass? Poor Nick, that acoustic isn't even in the mix.
Can I be the first to say, this is an amazing George Floyd protest song. It's bang on.

The song is about how Neil's older sister used to make fun of him, so......
you could be forgiven for thinking he's singing the word 'systematic'...
