A coast to coast trip on a scout is crazy. That’s hard core af

Simply amazing. Ngl 4 hours for me on my Scout 60 is my max, with an air cushion but no windshield.

WOW you are courageous! I did a ride of 700 miles straight 40 years ago,now I drive Montreal quebec down to Myrtle beach straight after work in comfort of my Jeep. I have a scout bobber 2018 down south that has been sitting since before the pandemic February’20 can’t wait to ride. Again, amazing! Stay safe.

I bet the riding is beautiful there. I have done the Trans Siberian Railway from Shanghai and Beijing to Moscow via Ulaanbaatar and the most beautiful parts were the vast lands near the Mongolian border.

I suspect I am a few years older than yourself, but have been toying with a WI > AL trip to spend time with my son. This has rekindled that idea, and back brace may be the answer. It would definitely be one of my last big trips. Thanks for replying. Mike H

I hope you go for it, the Harley rider early on in this video is my dad, sometimes the hardest part is just deciding to go.

I have many questions. I hope you're still checking comments. I didn't see a GPS. Did you just keep checking your phone? Or have some written waypoints? How did you get the bike back to CA, or was NY your home and. you bought the bike in CA? Did you mostly camp or hotel? Average MPG? Total cost for trip? Modifications to the bike? I'd like to get another Scout (had one a few years ago) to some more traveling. Trying to get as much info as I can. Thanks.

I moved to NY state in 2020 and it was a one way trip. For this ride the only modification I had was the windscreen, it is small but a huge help. Also a nice aerodynamic helmet is a must (I have a Shoei), I didn't use GPS for this trip, just memorized directions along the way. Average MPG was probably 45, I carried 2 spare gas tanks with me each with 0.6 gallons just in case, but never needed them. Mostly I stayed in hotels, after a long day of motorcycling I really wanted a real bed to sleep in. Sorry for the late replay. Happy riding to ya

I would love to do a trip like this from central Florida up to South Dakota to see my little brother. I have an Indian Scout Sixty setup pretty much the same as yours. Same sport seat (Same color) with the leather saddle bags. Question: What do you have holding on the backpack on the back of the back? Have been looking at several options but not sure what to use.

Sorry for the late reply - this is the bag I used www.ebay.com/itm/296352602398 not sure if they still sell them new but it worked great on that trip and I still use it today.

How many days did that trip take? How many rests did you have? Did any camping along the way?

Hey Dude..... nice video, I am planning to do also a San Diego to Washington Road Trip later this year. Me and my Bud are coming from Germany and could use some help and advice in planning this. Sorry for the late reply - I rode from San Diego up north through Salt Lake City and up through Montana and Yellowstone National park, then east through Wyoming and on to Chicago. I booked places to stay a day or two in advance, no need to make reservations that far out. Hope you have a great ride!!

My hat is off to you sir. I have same bike, and butt get's sore after120 miles. A few questions if you don't mind. Stock seat and shocks? Any issues with bike? Average MPG? Did you ride bike back to San Diego? Sincerely Mike H

120 miles is right around when I needed to fill up so the timing worked out pretty well, I wore a back brace which helped a lot since it took I think 11 days to do the trip. To answer your Qs yes the seat and shocks are stock, the front brakes needed to be bled which was covered under warranty but they still squeak occasionally, average mpg I'm not too sure but I did put 3.1 gallons into the 3.3 gallon tank at one point 😬 after 155 miles. I carried a spare gas tank of about 0.6gal but never needed it. It was a one way move to NY, we drove the truck with trailer out the month prior, and I couldn't bear the thought of seeing my beautiful Scout in my NY garage with California plates only having shipped it...

Also I switched to Bassani exhaust after this trip and to clarify I did the brake bleed a few months after getting to NY and had no issues on the trip 👍 potholes in NY are no joke, maybe someday I'll upgrade the shocks for my back's sake

My concern would be reliability and timely availability of parts. We have two Indians and have experianced break failures, switch failures in the wet or humid environments, neutral switch failure, showing neutral when it is in gear, starter solenoid failure, lighting failures, speedometer and main computer failure. More problems than all Hondas combined over 50 years. I would encourage a cross country trip but not on an Indian as they over sell and under deliver. If you want to do it on an Indian take spare parts, speedo/ computer, switches, starter solenoid and tools. Make sure you know how to work on the bike and know where the dealers are. Better yet tell I Indian you are doing it and ask for their support if required.

@@scoutandscotch6892 We have a Chief Vintage and a Scout both in cream and green. The scout is dressed like a mini Vintage with bags screen and floor boards. Also has reduced reach bars and seat which improves comfort for my wife being 5 foot 3. Shocks are bad no matter what as the angle is about style not function. All my bikes with near vertical shocks worked better with the mono shock best of all. Have to say we are disappointed in the direction Indian are going. Seems like all the heritage customers are being treated like the Victory customers. Truth is we are Polaris customers not Indian or Victory. Polaris business goals and share holders. Next will be a woke pc name change.

Thanks! MPG was about 45, speed varied, out west I was on local roads and out east was highway

Worked fine for me, it's just the stock seat. I wore a back brace for most of my days.

It can be done no problem, just keep the mileage down if you're like me and want to pace yourself, otherwise no limits buddy

As a rule I enjoy watching motorcycle travel adventure videos, as I've taken a number of cycle trips myself. However I often feel disappointment when the subject doesn't narrate the video, but instead offers up some version of music. As if they figure they have nothing to say that the viewer would want to hear, but feel compelled to cover the time with sound, of some sort or another. Maybe it's because my travels bring me closer to God's universe, they inspire me. I had a spiritual calling many years ago, that opened my mind. Simple existence gave way to enlightenment and a need to know and feel and sense it all. Because of my motorcycle travels, I feel compelled to convey the beauty and love of the natural outdoor world to people. I noticed that many people I run into that are motorcycle travelers seem to share an adventurous soul, and a spirit that's in love with all he or she can take in to their mind and soul from this world around us. So I wonder, why not share it. Throw caution to the wind. Bare your thoughts, and let the viewers know that you're not some nut on a motorbike, but a human being inspired and seeking to fill his or her heart with this great universe called nature, then give it back to the viewer in thoughts. There are spirits all around us. Some are there to be our loving guides. They fill this universe of molecules, and can give us the knowledge of the path to joy and peace, if we're willing to just let go and be.... one with nature. We're motorcyclists.... the wind is our brother. Let them hear the inspiration in your heart.
