Crosby just made NHL history

Спорт

It is Wayne Gretzky and now Sidney Crosby. That's it. That's the list. Last night as the Pittsburgh Penguins came into Madison Square garden to face off against the New York Rangers, Sidney Crosby made history becoming only the 2nd player in NHL history to record 19 seasons as a point per game player. Truly an astonishing feat that shows Crosby's dominance from first breaking into the league to this very day at age 36. Despite the Penguins having one of their worst seasons in the Crosby era with an over 90% chance they miss the playoffs for the 2nd consecutive year, it certainly hasn't been due to the fault of their captain Sidney Crosby. Coming into to tonights matchup against the Rangers, he had 10 points in his last 4 games and found himself just 3 points shy of recording yet another point per game season for the 19th time in his career. It was a game where we saw Jonathan Quick celebrated for becoming the winningest American goalie in NHL history, with 392 as he received his silver goalie stick. We had Igor Shesterkin getting a little heated with Crosby as the two went at it a bit and we definitely saw some feistiness after Rakell laid a questionable hit. We had an EBUG in the building, the Rangers had a controversial goal called back and of course Sidney Crosby made NHL history. I cover it all and more in todays NHL hockey video!

He let everyone else take his hits for him.Incredibly skilled yes, but not a complete hockey player. Not much of a back checker but more of a blue line floater. Crosby goes into corners , has been beat up slashed punched and checked into the middle of next week and still puts up incredible numbers. I would take Crosby over Gretzky ant day on my team.

He claims Matthews is the best player in the league and doesn’t understand how people aren’t saying he will win the Hart trophy. He might be the best goal scorer right now but he isn’t the best player. Here’s how the conversation usually ends Me….Mathews plays the same style as Ovi, how many cups has he won. Crosby plays the same style as Gretzky, how many cups has he won. I’m not arguing Crosby is the best player, I’m pointing out which style brings more success. The Hart trophy will come down to 3 players and Matthews is not in this group

4:05 I may be in the minority here, since I'm almost as old as Sid and grew up playing before/just at the onset of concussions being taken seriously, but watching all these new-era players who seemingly actively refuse to protect themselves on the boards when they have the puck is frustrating. Like I get it, the onus is on the checker to not bust your head into the boards from the numbers. But so often now you see these players standing 3 feet away from the boards with their backs to the ice surface, usually leaning INTO the boards, then faking a move like they're going to turn around and getting laid out as they cancel course. Those things happen in split seconds and you can't just always EXPECT to be safe because you're not facing the play, which they seem to do. Now I completely understand it's smart hockey; you have the potential to put your team at a PP advantage if you can swing it. But you also risk getting a real injury from getting plastered, and losing that advantage anyways if your teammates get penalties while coming to your defense. Idk, I'm probably just a bitter old man.

Just so everyone's aware. When gretzky was 10. He scored either 300 or 400 goals in a single season playing against 14 year olds. That's when he got the nickname "the great one." It was a headline in his hometown newspaper

McDavid has 10 more years to go to tie Gretzky. And he has played just about exactly half of the games Crosby has played so far (not counting playoffs).

Great accomplishment, but not even the GOAT on his team. I’ve watched his and Mario’s entire career, living in Pittsburgh, and going to many games. Mario was just better. Gretzky, Mario, Orr, Howe are still the Mt. Rushmore. Sid has solidified #5.

I’m a new hockey fan. For my 4th ever NHL game my hometown Blue Jackets were able to play the spoiler last weekend. That said, it was very cool to see Crosby nearing the pinnacle of this historic run.

Three Cups, back to back cup wins, gold medal game winner, consistent scoring over a long career, Hall of Fame. I'm not a Pens fan, but, sometimes you just have to shut the F&$c up, stand and applaud. Let's go Canes!

has he actually scored or assisted at least once in every game he's played, or is it just he's scored at least 82 points in a season to average out to at least one point per game?

No player has ever had a point in every game of a season. Crosby has averaged over a point per game in every season of his career.

@@josephbarkley3301 that's what i thought. just imagine the player who does that, though. sooner or later, it's bound to happen. maybe not 1890pts career, but to get a goal or assist, every game played ...
