CROOKED RIVER BLOWOUT | Camping, Camp Cooking & Fly Fishing on Central's Oregon's Crooked River
Jen and I took our Four Wheel Campers Fleet model out to Central Oregon on a sunny late February weekend to escape the Western Oregon late winter rain and to do some camping, camp cooking & fly fishing on the Crooked River.
Ahead of the trip, I checked the conditions of the river. Flow was reading much higher than what I would normally fish the river at, but we really wanted to get out and I figured it was at least worth trying to fish it while we were there.
I fished this river a lot when I was younger so I thought that bringing an older 5wt Orvis rod and reel would be fun as well as tying up a fly with a pheasant tail that I harvested from a bird that I shot many years ago. In the end we had a wonderful trip full of sunshine, good food, good company and a little fishing sprinkled in between. I can't wait to get out there when conditions are better.

I have to say your video quality is excellent, nice blend of everything involved including music, landscape, narration etc. I think this channel is going big places. I live on the west side of the Cascades and have yet to venture over to Central Oregon to fish. Your content is great, keep it up man!

I took have grown up fishing the crooked. There used to be some pretty hefty trout in there! A little bit of information for you, when the water is high use a micro San Juan worm. Make sure you have plenty of them because they will tear them to ribbons! Kids though you need to put them right on the bottom an getting close not out in the middle
Once again.... really good stuff! I originally clicked on your channel for local-ish fishing content, but I love the non-fishing content. Or the "i came to fish... but..." content. The video is great, the production is great, music is great, keep it up! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! Yeah, some trips are like this and I think it's good to show that because that's how it goes sometimes. It might not be the most entertaining from a fishing standpoint but it's reality and I think that's important. Cheers!

Can you please tell me which campground you were at? I am thinking about fishing over there sometime this summer. I also live on the Oregon coast, those rivers intrigue . Thank You for the beautiful video.

If you drive down crooked River Highway below the dam, there are tons of campgrounds and they’re all pretty much identical

Yeah there are a bunch of campgrounds along the river. I think this one was Cobble Rock. Glad you enjoyed the video!
not sure what flow you experienced on this vid... but it jumped from about 190cfs to over 500 cfs yesterday... ok to bank fish.. but wouldnt want to wade it at those flows.

This was just below 500cfs. I didn’t wade too much because it seemed sketchy
