Hi! Thank you so much for your presentation. I am doing a research for a post-graduate program, and i am a lost. So sorry for my very basic questions. Do I only use Cronbach’s Alpha after having research participants answered my survey questions (using Likert scale)? Or, can I use Cronbach’s to validate my questions before having participants answer them? Thanks so much in advance for your response.
@glentox1563

Hi, thanks for asking. Before your research participants could even answer your survey questionnaire, it has to undergo validity and reliability test. Cronbach's alpha is a reliability test. Have your survey questionnaire answered by 15-20 initial participants/respondents. (These are different participants/respondents from your research participants.) Gather the data and compute for the alpha.

Good day sir. I find this very informative as we are currently doing a quantitative research. But, may I ask what's the description of 1-5 from the Likert Scale base on this example? I mean, are 1 and 5 represent 'Strongly Agree' and 'Strongly Disagree', respectively or the opposite? Thanks.
@glentox1563
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. I think the scale here was 5 to 1. Five being the highest positive agreement to the least. However, even if this was reversed, the order does not affect the measurement. Remember that the measurement we are trying to achieve is the correlation of each item in the survey questionnaire.
@valentinadragicevic13613 жыл бұрын
Hello! First of all, thank you for this amazing video, I was finally able to follow properly :) I have a question and would be very grateful if you could help me. I am currently conducting a test-retest as I have organised 2 pilot sessions for testing the reliability of my self designed survey. However, SPSS does not lay well with me so I was wondering if conducting a cronbach's alpha test would be acceptable? In this case do I conduct a Cronbach's test on my pilot participants for the first session or both?
@glentox1563
2 жыл бұрын
Hi sorry I have been busy lately I was not able to reply to you. I normally use test-retest for a multiple choice type questionnaire which uses the statistical measure Person r. Cronbach's alpha is only used for Likert - scale type questionnaire.

@glentox1563

Hi, thanks for asking. You can include all 30 items for your alpha calculation. However, if you want to check more on the internal consistency of the group of items based on your research questions, you may split them to check if the answers are highly correlated.

I would just like to ask, Sir. Are the data used for computing the reliability test, the results that are gathered during the conduct of the Pilot Testing of the Instrument? Thank you for the response!
@glentox1563

Yes, that is correct. The initial respondents needed for the Pilot testing is around 15 - 25 respondents. After the survey questionnaire had passed the reliability test, then it's good for floating to your target respondents.

@glentox1563
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for asking. If your alpha is below 0.70, then it has detected some reliability issues that require you to modify the survey or questionnaire. Cronbach's alpha result does not affect the sample size of the study, rather its like a go signal that the survey questionnaire is ready and approved for floating when it passed the reliability test.

So this shud be done in pilote study ?
Can I ask a copy of the Excel file you used for the video presentation? Thanks.
Thank you! I have now understood it clearly. Are those a result of the pilot test though?

Hi. I am getting a score of 0.2. using often, sometimes and never as the responses and a score of 5.7 for true and false responses. Is alpha used for these or do I need to do another type of validity test? thanks
Hello! Sir.. If a questionnaire contains dichotomous, and other mix types of questions which have more than 2 options... Is it possible to check reliability and validity of that questionnare?
No fluff. Good video

Thank You for an excellent explanation. I want to ask you that My questionnaire includes both dichotomous (yes/no) and multiple choice responses. In this case, do I need to separate dichotomous and multiple responses from one question and then apply RK20 reliability test? I would be very grateful to you. Thank you!!

Thank you sir for the clear explanation, may I know if you have a reference for the interpretation of the alpha level. Thank you in advance sir for any response

yes, check this site www.statisticshowto.com/cronbachs-alpha-spss/
It can be use in quasi experimental ?
How did you compute for the score for each question?
where did you got the 20?
Very helpful❤

Good day sir. I find this very informative as we are currently doing a quantitative research. But, may I ask what's the description of 1-5 from the Likert Scale base on this example? I mean, are 1 and 5 represent 'Strongly Agree' and 'Strongly Disagree', respectively or the opposite? Thanks.
@glentox1563
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. I think the scale here was 5 to 1. Five being the highest positive agreement to the least. However, even if this was reversed, the order does not affect the measurement. Remember that the measurement we are trying to achieve is the correlation of each item in the survey questionnaire.
@glentox1563

Hi sorry I have been busy lately I was not able to reply to you. I normally use test-retest for a multiple choice type questionnaire which uses the statistical measure Person r. Cronbach's alpha is only used for Likert - scale type questionnaire.

Thank you for asking this question and thank you @Glen for answering as i am also using likert scale questionnaire
i like our videos and how I get your excel sheet for this all
I have 30 items do i need to include all 30 items for calculating the Cronbach Alpha just like you did or i need to split the items based on my three research questions?
@glentox1563
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for asking. You can include all 30 items for your alpha calculation. However, if you want to check more on the internal consistency of the group of items based on your research questions, you may split them to check if the answers are highly correlated.
Could you please share the reference for the same
Thank you for this video, very helpful. If I may ask, how would I report the result on my research paper.
@glentox1563
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for asking. The result should be certified by a statistician or your statistic professor. Sometimes statisticians would also recompute and suggest removing some items to increase the reliability of your survey questionnaire.
I would just like to ask, Sir. Are the data used for computing the reliability test, the results that are gathered during the conduct of the Pilot Testing of the Instrument? Thank you for the response!
@glentox1563
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is correct. The initial respondents needed for the Pilot testing is around 15 - 25 respondents. After the survey questionnaire had passed the reliability test, then it's good for floating to your target respondents.

This video is very informative! Very easy to follow. But I was just wondering if what would happen if I get an alpha below 0.70, will that affect my sample size in the study?
@glentox1563

@@eirenevizconde1065 Hi, thanks for asking. You may use the Yamane's formula or normally called slovin's formula: You can check out this example: kzread.info/dash/bejne/YpdqxpVpXdfQm9Y.html

Hi, thanks for asking. Cronbach's alpha is intended for Likert scale survey questionnaire. If you are trying to test the reliability of a multiple choice test, then you should use KUDER-RICHARDSON. Here is an example: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eKl2tMiQqtzHitI.html
