I agree, I wish children were taught crochet and knitting, the younger the better, it stays with you. I am 56, my mum taught me the basics of knitting when I was about 10, but I taught myself with the help of KZread tutorials to crochet 4 weeks ago, and it saddens me that I hadn’t learnt before. I wish schools offered for people to come in and teach, after school for free, or something like that.

My tip to you as someone who makes mostly wearables or blankets is STITCH MARKERS lol. I've been at this for a bit now and I still always put stitch markers in the first and last stitch. It will help not to accidentally increase or decrease.

15:31 yes 😭 the first stitch i learned was a double crochet, so i got really used to yarning over before i put my hook into the next stitch, and then i learned arigurimi and it is literally single crochets EVERYWHERE. but now ive gotten used to that, I’ve gone too much the other way and keep forgetting to yarn over when doing a double crochet 😅

Hopefully this will help unconfuse you, or others! What is the difference between a chain and a foundation chain? Foundation stitches allow you to skip the starting chain and instead work a row of single crochet (or double crochet or treble crochet), building the stitches out side by side. Rather than creating base chains and starting chains, you just create the number of foundation stitches you need to start your row. You have a chain and a foundation chain. The chain is just the thin long strand of just basic loops that you will build the rest of your project on. The foundation chain is when you use foundation stitches to create a base for your project. The foundation chain is much better for beginners because it prevents the stitches from being too tight, you will know right away if you need to adjust your tension. A starting chain tends to be too tight and will make it more difficult for your project to lay flat. Let me know if you have any other questions.
