    I am glad they were helpful. I try to add more sizes in the video when possible. Sometimes I just add 2 sizes when the pattern has 8 size options. It just depends on how simple or complex the sizing is.

    @@WindingRoadCrochetI do have a slight concern. I measured my head and it was 23 in so I did the 71 starting stitches. It only reached about temple to temple on me so I undid it and added 3 at a time (because you had us add an extra three each time on the wrist warmers for the pattern) And I ended up needing 101 starting stitches. I'm not sure if this was a tension issue? On the wrist warmers I did the starting 35 and it was perfect. I'm using the red heart super saver favorite stripe, medium 4 with a 5mm hook. Either way, absolutely love it! It looks beautiful and I'm already getting a lot of compliments.

    hi!! I want to say i love the pattern, I love your voice and the way you describe/show the process! Curious question: should I count with multiples of 4 if I want to make an ankle warmer with this sticth? Or how can i make sure I reach the correct 'amount' of sticth to do the 3 left, do the last one sc-dc-dc? ETA: reading the comments further, it should be multiples of 3, right?

    Hello! Love this pattern, little question tho, should the first chain be the size of my head ? I’m using a different yarn size so just to be sure that my measurements are right ! Will of course adapt to get 3+1, but as a rule should the first chain be the size of my head ? Thanks a lot !

  • @WindingRoadCrochet

    @WindingRoadCrochet

    5 ай бұрын

    Yes, kind of. What I would do is start with a chain that is the side of your head. Then after you complete row 1, I would measure the piece and see what size it is. You are looking for about 1-2 inches less than the size of your head because the project will stretch.

    Did you check your gauge? My best guess is that you simply crochet tighter than I do and you need to use a larger hook to meet the gauge.

    To reach the same gauge you will need to use a very small hook. It would be better to just use the pattern as a guideline and modify the starting chain and the rows you use as you go.

    it depends on your gauge. I would chain until you reach 30cm and then adjust the count to match the needed stitch count for the pattern.

    Hello! Do you think the 80 yards of yarn will be enough for size "large adult"?

  • @WindingRoadCrochet

    @WindingRoadCrochet

    Жыл бұрын

    I am going to say 80-160. It is actually unlike me to not have the estimated yarn amounts listed in the written pattern. Either 80 yards works for all sizes or there wasn't a huge yarn requirement difference, but it seems a little low in my opinion.

    I agree about measuring the head size, but I would choose the closest chain number listed to meet that size. There is a specific stitch count needed for this pattern.

    The pattern is lovely. Love the beautiful modified mile a minute stitch. However for an infant and for a toddler, five rows (rows 5-10) is way too wide for their head.

    I was wondering about this. I’m not actually worried about the width so much as how small it looks, circumference wise. My 3 month old is a big baby and normal baby hat patterns don’t even fit her head. Maybe I’ll wrap the starting chain around her head to see if it fits first and add to it from there? This pattern is so cute and easy

  • @WindingRoadCrochet

    I would first take it off and see if you can stretch it a little bit by hand to make it fit. Yarn gets stretched out over time and often something that fits perfectly on day 1 will be too big later. If that doesn't work then you will need to make a new one.

    You might crochet tighter than I do. Did you check your gauge. 4 single crochet stitches should be 1 inch wide. If the gauge matches than 62 chains should be approximately 15.5 inches wide before it stretches.

    I mean that the pattern is the same for rows 5-10. It is just an easy way to say that you work the same row 6 times. Another way to say it, is to repeat row 5 until you have a total of 10 rows in the project.

    I did 68 chains for an adult head, but after the first row, it's very very short. Are the 68 chains for the width and not the length? I'm just a little confused.

  • @WindingRoadCrochet

    @WindingRoadCrochet

    Жыл бұрын

    68 chain is for the length (circumference). Did you check your gauge? If your gauge is too tight then the pattern will come out small. The gauge is listed under the material list that is shown in the first minute of the video. You might need to move up a hook size to achieve the correct gauge. I would also check to make sure you are using a category weight #4 yarn. This can also be called worsted weight, aran and double knit (I believe). the wrong yarn weight can make a huge difference. A category #3 weight yarn is half the thickness of a #4 and could potentially make an ear warmer that is half the size that is should be. The adult ear warmer should be about 17 inches around after completing row 1 and will fit a head that is 19-21 inches in circumference.

    @@WindingRoadCrochet thank you for replying quickly. I'm using a size 6 mediim yarn (yarn bee breathe deep yarn), but I upped the hook by two sizes than the one recommended for the size 4 yarn. Should I be using an even bigger hook?

  • @WindingRoadCrochet

    @WindingRoadCrochet

    Жыл бұрын

    You need to check your gauge to decide which hook size to use. When you work row 1, every 4 stitches should measure 1 inch. You don't have to even work the entire row. Just work about 8 stitches and then measure how long the middle 4 stitches are. Gauge is controlled by your tension on the yarn and that is very unique to everyone.

    I like to wrap a ribbon measuring tape (tailor's measuring tape) around your head to get the measurement. If you don't have one, you can use a piece of ribbon and then lay the ribbon flat and measure it with a ruler. I wrap it around my head long where the brim of a hat would be.

    The big question would be, di you check you gauge? The gauge upstretched is 4 stitches equals 1 inch. If you crochet tighter than that, then the earwarmer will end up tighter than what the pattern states.
