I just want to warn the potential visitors as a native Croatian windsurfer: Watch out for Bura! It can be extremely dangerous especially at locations near the Velebit mountain. Bura can start suddenly and reach speeds well over 100km/h. Record speed was above 300km/h. Always check the weather forecast! Such high winds are almost always predicted up to 3 days in advance. The other thing to watch out for are local Thunderstorms and Gust-fronts that form during summer, locally called "Nevera". I'm not 100% sure about Istria but winds are more consistent at the south. So if you have limited time it is a better bet to go to southern locations like Viganj. Enjoy your time on the water :D

Awesome! Thanks Ben. I'm moving to Croatia from New Zealand next year. As a long-time surfer I need something to replace it during those times I can't travel to get waves. Kite Surfing looks to be the answer! We'll be living within 40 mins of Neretva. I can see this being my local :) will buy you a beer at the water bar if I ever see you out there! 👍🍺

Bol is definitely worth a visit as well, but only in the off season. Same thermal wind as at Neretva and flat water behind a sand bar. Also it’s very beautiful there. However, from mid of June they charged money (about 15-20 eur) and said that from mid of July until beginning of September kiting is not allowed. Presumably because the beach is too crowded then.

Yes Bol is a very nice place but the pebble beach is forbidden during summer, kiters starts from a a floating platform or from a boat, not so nice so

Bol is not cool. Totally jam packed tourist deistination with no space for kiting in summer

I spend most of my summers on Brać (this is the island where Bol is located) and Zlatni Rat (or the area surrounding ist) makes a lot of fun to kite there! I would recommend everyone to. NOT go east of Zlatni Rat. Wind gets less powerful once you pass Zlatni Rat from the westside. I prefer a small spot (not for beginners) slightly west of it called Camp Aloa. You have to start from a small platform but the kite- and surfschool will assist you. It‘s less crowded but a spot worth visiting. There is a kiteteacher and you can rent all sorts of equipment there. But: There is hardly any „flat“ water. When the thermal wind picks up at around 2pm you will have waves! I hope this helps. BTW: I have never been there, but Viganj is also supposed to be one of the best spots.

@@paulitap8996 yes, you are right. looked at the map, I was anchored in a small bay in korcula when I saw the kite beach on the other side of the channel.

Wir waren im Juni in Nin und es war ganz nett und dann sind wir zum Neretva Delta gefahren und da war es echt geil. Haben dort auch für eine Nacht mit dem Womo am Spot ohne Probleme gestanden.

Viganj - Pelješac, famous place for kite and windsurfing. From there you can go with a fery to Komin - Neretva

Yes ! Neretva is one of my fav. places to kite :)

I would recommend Viganj on Peljesac peninsula. Wind can blow from 2 directions. South wind (jugo) in the winter can be up to 35 knots, great for big air. In the summer north west mistral up to 25 knots. There are 2 beach area for launching the kites. Its probably place with most windy days in Croatia. Only downsize is, there is almost no flat area

Thanks for the video. I'm already planning my next roadtrip there. Can you say something about the mobile internet at the spots? I also need to work during the roadtrip. Did you felt safe leaving your notebook etc in the camper while kiting?

Thanks for this nice review! I think Zlatni Rat is the best place in Croatia for kitesurfing with moderate but constant wind almost every day and nice surround. Unfortunately the beach in the summer time is closed for kitesurfing due to the big number of turists at the beach. From Jun until end of Septembre it's not allowed to launch kites at the Zlatni Rat. Maybe durring the COVID-19 in the last 2 years it was allowed. But I'm not sure.

Zlatni Rat / Bol is a great Spot. In summer season launching is prohibited on the Zlatni Rat beach but there is also an artificial starting area some meters away run by a kite school. Wind is very steady and constant in the Hvar channel

I haven't been to many various places to kitesurf, but Bol is insane as you are thinking about waves. Flat water also is there, but waves. When I was there waves were enormous (according to me). I haven't seen waves 1,5m high anywhere else. And this is only 100m from flat water :)

The best time is from mid Mail to end of August...

Wir waren 3x in Nin. Jeweils 14 Tage. Im Schnitt gab es max 1 Tag/Woche mit kitebaren Wind. 2 Tage mit unter 10 Knoten. Also zum Kiten ist die Ecke nix. Da fahr ich lieber an die Ostsee 😉

I love Neretva the mist but Bol might be better for kids. I never visited this spot but linked a description in the first comment under the video. Nin might be cool aswell but the wind is not as consistent...

Ich dank dir auch für die Tipps, meinst du es wäre auch noch im September ein gutes Reiseziel zum Kiten? Wir würden die Küste 2 - 3 Wochen lang mit dem Bus abklappern.
