Not saying it wasn't running rich but I bet more of that buildup came from the oil that gets slung into the intake before you put the catch can on it. The pushrods being hollow I bet they are oil galleries for the upper head since it has a pressurized oiling system.

Hey Red you got to look at the good side of it , the flywheel take and cut it down so you can see how lite you can get it and make the next motor run. The Exhaust cut the tabs off so you can make a head for the next motor. Just use the stuff off of this motor to experiment with. you can learn a lot from using the old parts.

I feel your pain. Did the same thing to a drag sled 10 years ago, cause was a fuel leak. Did you guys figure out how it happen? If it didn't get to hot the crank should be good. I rebuilt mine to go on and win two national events later that year. And now my grand kids ride it at the farm. But remember you now have a motor to teach the kids. Plus you have some use able parts. If were me I would rebuild it and bore it out and build radical go cart motor.

Water probably made it into the cylinders via the crispy carb/intake manifold and through open or slightly leaky valves. Personally I'd clean it up best you can, oil everything and bag it for storage. If you ever throw a rod or something on another 670, you've got spare block/parts.

Here's an idea for the old block. Polish it up and then turn it into a wall clock. You can leave the cover off and make the cam gear the center point of the clock. Then you can do some kind of give away contest with the clock.

Before u trash the block look at the Briggs twin. The coils will work on it the carb should(I have a 670 and a 20hp lawn mower and was making the comparison) I think the stator works the flywheel looks the same. Might be a cheap viable option on a rebuild

All of the store brand stuff that Northern Tool and Harbor Freight come from the same manufacturer, they're just licensed under a different brand name, you can get parts from NT but under Powerhouse brand name, just take the parts you need with you to NT and they will match them up.

you should keep that block and build a drag engine with it, one that only runs for short bursts so it doesn't need much cooling. people who make 50 horsepower 390s and stuff use an aluminum disc with no cooling fins for the flywheel because they run for such a short time

  • @PerrynBecky

Man, I'm sick for you Red. So sorry to see this. Hope you can recover this loss. You did a lot of work to this and as you said in the beginning, you also put a lot of money into this only to see it go up in smoke. Needless to say, get yourself a fire extinguisher to strap on the inside of the cockpit in case something like this ever happens again, God forbid.

  • @OddBallPerformance
