Crime Beat: Double Deception | S5 E25
When two brothers entered a bank in Saanich, B.C. dressed in body armour and armed with semi-automatic rifles, everybody inside was taken hostage.
The gunmen demanded money and herded the hostages towards the vault. But instead of escaping with the cash, the brothers paced inside the bank as police arrived on scene.
As Jules Knox reports, a hailstorm of bullets suddenly erupted which resulted in two deaths and left many people with their lives forever changed.

The Officers were read their rights and were informed that they had a right to contact a lawyer. Absolutely crazy.
Good job Crime Beat never cease to amaze me good journalistic integrity. I tip my hat to the heroes in blue ❤❤❤❤❤
The Saanich Police needed to be recognized and have a win after the way they have been dragged through the mud for Lindsay Buziak's murder. I am so glad the community has shown them so much love. What a terrible thing for the entire community to go through.

Ex boyfriend killed her its so obvious
This one made me cry. I have incredible respect for the police but not for those who subject them to a criminal investigation after saving so many lives and taking so many risks to keep the community safe. Why would anyone wish to treat them as criminals after laying their lives on the line? It's unconscionable!

I always cringe when police dogs are involved. They do their jobs without fear and go head long into danger without concern for their own welfare. When any are injured or killed in the line of duty it makes me truly upset.

31:12 this is no new thing. In medieval times, the court’s executioner was formally charged with murder after each time he had to execute someone, only to be pardoned at the trial. It is just a safeguard against police taking liberties with their firearms. As a society, we cannot give police impunity to fire their weapons. We place the safeguard to ensure they have every motivation to be as prudent as possible. Innocent lives do get saved like this.

That was very well done! And that was a crazy day for us locals. I remember being glued to the news as it was all happening. So glad all the officers recovered :)
I've been waiting for Crime Beat to cover this case. Such a crazy and interesting story. I'm glad nobody besides the brothers died. I bet those who study the psychology of twins had a field day with this one.

In Canada you don't even have the right to defend ourself if someone is attacking us... Not that long ago a guy ended up in prison for murder because he have kill a guy that was trying to beating him to death. So it was self defence and he still got sentenced for that... that how it is ridicule it is in Canada, you just have the right to die
Thats pretty crazy how well these 2 young guys held up against a larger, trained police force. I believe they all had sks rifles which are alright, but pretty clunky to use in confined spaces like inside the bank. Also most of them are around 60-70 years old. Edit: just realized they were wearing body armour😱
I grew up with an ingrained respect for law enforcement... It has remained as such throughout my interactions with law enforcement... Law enforcement have without fail treated me with both professionalism and mutual respect throughout my years... Born in South Africa in 1966 I have not changed my opinion of law enforcement... Any single person who does not set out to treat any other person with...at the very least...an attitude of politeness...has deliberately made the decision to set a less than desirable tone for whatever may transpire thereafter... It is astonishing to me that strangers will spit at...swear at and attack a law enforcement officer whom they have never met... There are law enforcement officers who bring disgrace upon the uniform... In Canada it is below 5%... In the USA it is below 6%... In my country it is below 8%... These are 2024 figures... They are without question the minority...as it is in any profession... I was an educator for twenty five years between 1988 and 2013 and the same rule of thumb applies... Thank you for always being there when I call for help... 🇿🇦

You do recall that they were on a covert surveillance operation when the call came through? They responded immediately.
What a mess, ERT got squad wiped by 2 people. Should be lots of learning from this for training.
37:00 ya but to be fair, they weren’t interested in shooting at civilians. It’s upsetting to learn the tactical response unit had but 9mm pistols. They should be way heavier armed than that as a unit who is supposed to specialize in this type of scenario.
Poor old robbers, mummy and daddy love them enough
What about the parents? Or sister? Did no one see the gear and attitude in these two deluded teens. I wish all those affected healing vibes.

There tactical response need to be taken a closer look at. Was not smart move. Glad everyone is ok .

@allegedlyandfacts, Because this series actually started as a podcast, hosted by Nancy Hixt, a crime beat reporter of many years, for Global News in Calgary. She has a good working relationship with some of the detectives & investigators in both the CPS, and the Calgary and surrounding communities RCMP officers. She started the podcast back in 2019, many of her episodes are shown on this Global channel Crime Beat series. I enjoy her podcasts very much, she does well rounded reporting for each episode, and it deals with Canadian crimes.
