Cricut Engraving Placement - Temporary Jig Method
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
How to use the temporary jig method for precise placement (alignment or centering) of your engraving with the Cricut Maker. IMPORTANT. As of v6.10, Cricut has removed the ability to leave the mat loaded as shown in the video. Continue reading for new instructions, related links, etc.
Please call Cricut at 877 727 4288 (USA) or contact them via help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/requ... to let them know the ability to keep the mat loaded, as in versions 6.5-6.10, is important to you.
The current workaround to keep the mat loaded as of version 7.25 (requires USB connection):
IMPORTANT: Be sure to save your file before clicking Make it
-Once the cutting mat is completed and you see the large check mark in the center of the screen, unplug the USB cable that connects your computer to your Cricut, from either end.
-Click on Cancel in the lower right and then Yes at the top. That will bring you back to the Prepare screen.
-Choose the Engraving mat from the left hand side of the Prepare screen.
-Plug the USB cable back in and click Continue.
-Load and engrave your blanks
-Repeat the disconnecting/reconnecting process for each subsequent mat
(Unplug USB BEFORE pressing Done or Cancel on the checkmark screen. Plug it back in when you are on the Prepare Screen BEFORE you press Continue) until all desired runs are complete.
If you are having trouble keeping the mat loaded, disable Bluetooth or unpair your Maker, and also remember the sensor jig method (linked below) is always a good option.

I've been searching for someone like you for all my training videos. Most talk to much. Your awesome. You give me the facts I need in a clear concise manner! Love it.
Love this!! Thank you so much for explaining all of this in a precise and easy to follow way. Thank you also for taking the time to show all of us how to do this and other things.
Thank you! I think I can actually accomplish engraving now. Your videos are so great!
Love your videos, you are always so precise and clear. A great teacher. Thank you!
Great explanation and example. I appreciate your videos. Thank you.
This is a game-changer! Thanks, Kay!
Kay, you are absolutely the BEST! You are the answer to all my Cricut prayers, thank you so much, your videos are so to the point and extremely helpful!
What a great tutorial! Thank you for taking the time to make this! I learned soooo much!
So good! I have not gone down the road of engraving yet, but the results you have are really good. Thanks very much for sharing 😀
A wonderful video with clear and easy to understand and follow instructions!
I followed your instructions to the letter, including the workaround, and am thrilled with the result - thank you.
Thank you for this video. It is fantastic. You include such great instructions - Perfect
I'm going to try this tonight. Thanks so much!!!
Wow - this is awesome. I used your template for "filling in" text for engraving, and that was wonderful. But I had trouble getting my blank in the precise spot on the mat for engraving - this is the answer I was looking for. Thank you for teaching us this in such a clear way. I have subscribed, and am off to watch more of your videos.
Thank you Kay!!! Another great how to video

I just found your channel and am so happy I did🤗🤗🤗. I am learning a lot!!!! I have problems retaining information but I can now just return to your tutorial to follow 😜🤗🤗
Thank you I'm going to try this today. When I'm home from work. I've struggled so much and given up . x
Just made my first bracelet using this. Got it right 1st time with your Dummy Method. Thanks so much!
Thank you 💖💖 Great information!
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR VIDEOS LEARNING SOOOOOO MUCH
Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Thank you. This is great information.
Another wonderful video... Thank you 😘
I wasn't thorough in taking the time to go through all of your instructions and even after watching your video twice (thrice if you include me following along on my first effort) I didn't realize the ability to keep the mat loaded was no longer there. Despite having to reload the mat my job didn't come out too far off (it was a bit forgiving thank goodness due to my design placement). I will definitely use the link you provided to let Cricut know us engravers would love to keep that option!! I will also try the sensor jig as I have 19 more blanks to engrave even though I read about it being buggy recently. I am a long time follower and a first time engraver (using your methods) and am so glad after years that I decided to really use my Maker to its utmost! Thank you for your AMAZING tutorials, you are definitely CLEVER!!
You're the best for various Cricut tutorials! I've been having a really tough time with an acrylic blank that is a circle with a rectangle at the bottom because it slides inside a round light base. I finally had to use the pen feature to draw it right on the mat but it WAS a millimeter or 2 off.

Acrylic 2mm, as noted around the 8:12 mark in the video. However, I have found that the setting is not as important as using the proper design and using multiple passes as needed.

The carbide tip should be very durable but we don't have the history yet to know exactly what the life is. The engraving tip has been out about 2 years and the vast majority of us are still on our first one.

Thanks again Kay, I have another 3 questions plz (sorry!), can you plz confirm what you said in minute (11:43 till 11:55)? I understood that as long as i didn't unload the mat, I can keep engraving the same design on another blank with the same size over and over.. so what about different design (different word/drawing), can i go back to canvas on DS and select another design/text ? sorry didn't understand this part correctly My 2nd question, if we select to draw (without putting a pen) instead of cutting for the dummy dot in the left corner, does that work the same as well? did engraving the dot over and over affect the mat? My 3rd question, if we make the whole project in 1 mat, without a temporary jig first by using air drawing, will that work? so let's say i have a round acrylic, so I draw circle on canvas ( same size like the acrylic) and place it in the middle of the canvas at the + or at the very top left corner with 1 square up and 1 square on the side. And type the text or place the design aligned in the centre of the circle. Then we press make it, not to place a drawing pen- and the machine draw on the air the circle surrounding the blank , then engrave in the middle of the blank. will this be accurate? or the machine will not engrave in the center of the blank? sorry again for the long question! I love watching your videos and learning from you
@cleversomeday
3 жыл бұрын
I don't have a simple way to answer your first question beyond saying yes. As long as you use the same relative position of target shape and dummy shape to position a design, that gives you the same frame of reference, whether it is the same design, a different design in the same file or a different design in a different file. But of course that takes more concentration. As for your second question, yes, you can set the dummy shape to pen (with or without a pen) if you want to protect the mat. Using engrave is simpler, but does affect the mat in the very corner, so its a tradeoff. Third question. The "air draw" method you are describing is a very common one that is only accurate within 3mm (per Cricut's latest published information), because it does not account for mat loading tolerances. A jig, on the other hand, is accurate to a half mm or less depending on the fit of your blank in the slot. So you want to choose the level of effort that is appropriate for the accuracy you need. I have tutorials linked for lots of methods, along with pros and cons of each in the Guides section of my FB group.
