Crews work magic for rebirth of Dodge Fountain in downtown Detroit
The national spotlight is about to shine all over downtown Detroit, and our Hart Plaza will have some extra sparkle. That's because the Dodge Fountain is about to get a new lease on life.

Another sign that Detroit has "turned the corner." 🙏 👍😁❤️🙏
Detroit is such an inspiration for all US cities.
Crazy to see that this fountain will he working again after so many years broken.
Coleman Young had the original plaque removed before he left office in January 1994. Her grandson David Dodge submitted a much better design but the city denied it. This fountain is what rejuvenated the area and afterwards plans for the Renaissance Center came to fruition.

i kinda remember that, this fountain was a complete let down when we first layed eyes on it
Finally, the city doing something for people who live here and not just because the NFL draft is in town next week.

reminds me of when when some important chinese official visited san francisco, and overnight the city figured out how to clean up everything and remove the homeless.

I don't live there but I would guess there's been desire to fix it for years now and the draft gives them the opportunity to be able to spend money on it

youre being sarcastic right? i hope so
Great to see! It was always fun to see kids splashing in the fountain.
If the draft wasn’t in Detroit this wouldn’t of been done for years

Yes, I agree. Having the city play host to events with a national drawing is critical for having a strong positive economic impact on the region. This is a great investment both short and long term for the tax paying citizens as well as the out of town tourists.

Maybe, but the draft wouldn't have come to Detroit if people hadn't been working to improve it. Events like a draft give the city the opportunity and money to fix things like this, but there has to be will and effort to change in the first place
Detroit Muscle right there.
Detroit has been on a forward march since exiting bankruptcy 10 years ago
An urban legend I heard about the fountain long ago is that the programming that controlled the fountain spray patterns was all stored in the original computer. No backup. And then someone lost the password…😂. I wonder if that is true.
To bad they cant reopen Boblo
Aint seen no water in it since 2004

It had water in 2006 I remember it.
Cool stuff
That's great for the fountain, but what about the colored rings atop the 5 Renaissance Center towers? What happened to them?
$6 Million to repair. Jesus!
It'll be a free summer shower for city residents.
When did Anna Thompson Dodge donate the 2 Mil? She passed away in 1970?? I've got 2 pieces of Stone Work from the taredown of The Mansion Rose Terrace in my yard.

It was written in her will around 1965. Mayor Jerome Cavanaugh and a Detroit Free Press writer contacted her and asked of she could leave a bequest to build a memorial in honor of her late husband. She agreed but added her son to it as well and it is known as the Horace E. Dodge & Son Memorial.

I'm sure it was in her will. Typically bequests take time to come to fruition.

@@carolperdue7534 Just in time for NFL coming to town? Don't add up. Detroit filed for Bankruptcy not all that long ago. Where's the money really coming from?

Bankruptcy was 10 years ago. Things have changed and Detroit is on the right track.
Jayson Waller from Power Home Solar should pay for the whole thing
Sounds like the man in charge trying to justify the time and cost to restore.....😂. Had to do it all by hand, each panel took 72 hours and 6 workers each 😅😂
Nobody really knows when the last time this abomination functioned! 🎉

My grandpa built that in Highland Park. The original design was to have an operator in a booth that’s still there play the fountain in time with the DSO playing in the amphitheater.

Where would the booth have sat? I'm pretty familiar with Hart Plaza and I can't picture it in my head.
Replace it with a statute of Aretha Franklin
