The Most UNDERRATED City in the U.S. (DETROIT)

With a hustle mindset, little bit of swag to the city, let me show you around one of the most underrated cities in the United States! I've lived out in Detroit for 4 years myself, grew up in Michigan for 25 years, and there's plenty more to see which will be featured in future videos from Michigan and Detroit - and tons to eat too!

I grew up on the east side of Detroit. A nice area. It's a F'ing war zone today. No excuses. Detroit is a sh*t town that truly reflects the people that inhabit it. Even all the nice videos of Downtown are deceiving. Probably half of the area is uninhabited or vacant.

🌺 I was there July 29, 2023, and I fell in love with Detroit!!! (From Atlanta) I’ve been there many times, NOBODY ever told me about or took me to the Ford Museum!!! The full size trains, the vintage cars, the Kennedy limo and other presidential cars were AWESOME! So much to see and love. The city is packed full of goodies…I’ll be back next year!!! I’m in AWE of your lovely and lively city! 🤗😎♥️♥️♥️♥️

I have a thing for Detroit. I've only been there once to play a show at the Fox theatre, but I got to spend some time walking around and checking things out. I believe in second chances and I love an underdog. When I got my promotion, I bought myself a Shinola watch -built right there in Detroit.

I grew up in Detroit in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. I love it. I got married and moved to a smaller Michigan city but I’d move back tomorrow. My husband’s job is here. I miss the DIA and the main library the most. My great great grandparents immigrated to Corktown in 1839. What remains of my family is still there.

LA transplant who's lived in Corktown for a few years. Detroit's definitely an underrated city on its way back up. but in all fairness to anyone potentially looking to move there to start a new life soon, Detroit is still light years away from being something like a Chicago or Boston or NYC. it's more on par with cities Cleveland, Minneapolis, Columbus, etc. the place just feels like...half deserted and littered with empty paid parking lots. i'm sure in 10 years, it's gonna be poppin.

No doubt, you can't go through what Detroit's gone through, and expect it to be on a par with the big boys... It's a shell of its former self. BUT - it absolutely was second to none in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Vibrant, happening, with building after building spectacular in their architecture, unique, with an incredible music culture. Not too many places in America with a major waterway you can see a different country directly across from.

I love Detroit, too, and appreciate your enthusiasm for it. I lived downtown for 30 years during the so-called bad years, the '70s and '80s, and it was interesting and fun even then. It went through hell, but it never did "die" -- and now is coming back at an astonishing rate. I think the bankruptcy in 2013 shook everyone, and forced the city's leaders to decide whether Detroit would or would not have a future. They -- and the citizens -- decided it would. And now it does.

But, you can park for free right next to Comerica Park and those duplex houses. I want to say it's on the west end of Comerica Park and there's a few rows of streets that you can park for free. Detroit is awesome. It had a lot of green space for a big city. It actually gets dark at night( unlike some bigger cities), has a number of organic and coop farms within the city, and has real heart. We have the world best pizza, as well as the absolute best Lebanese food outside of Lebanon. Detroit has almost every ethnic group and is a short drive to beautiful rural areas. We have a State park in the city and a really cool riverfront. It’s the warmest part of a very cold state. Some say we are going to be the new Cali. We’ll see. Additionally the whole state of Michigan is one of Americas best kept secrets. Within an hour of Detroit we can be on a white sand beach at one of the Great Lakes and it’s only a five hour drive to Bigfoot-type wilderness in the upper peninsula.

As a detroit native. Love this video. It's a really big city so much to see here. But this is only downtown not the whole city. Downtown is, however, the place for tourists mostly. Funny I've lived here my whole life and never been to either lafayette coney or American coney. I mean there are coney islands everywhere. It's a staple in this city.

Parking garages are cheaper or street parking if you can find some! I grew up in the Metro area and watched Detroit grow, ended up going to university and working downtown; I loved it. I miss it everyday and its honestly got to be the best city in the midwest. ALSO - respect for you trying not to film others, not ever person has that consideration. Also go to a church if you want to find more people XD, I remember walking from my jobs to Great Lakes Coffee Co. and these people from a church across the street yelled out to me and were handing out free hot dogs and ice cream (it was 90F+). Definitely took them up on the ice cream, they were so incredibly nice.

So this video is cool. I love watching a suburban do Detroit videos. All the places except credit cards not cash only. Sir it’s not supposedly it was voted Best Riverfront. Detroit is underrated because people always compare us to NY we aren’t NY we are D.

A bit disappointed he didn't go to the heart of the riverfront there near the Rencen, he would have been more likely to find more life there. Yup, there was a day that Detroit began to rival New York, one of the greatest and most important cities in the world. Just the fact that the D had such incredible culture, music, history, and national importance as to even be compared to New York for a few decades speaks volumes. As you say, Detroit is different. For example, it is Detroit that has been given the moniker of "the arsenal of democracy", the city credited by many for having won world War II with it's unreal industrial output. That's quite a badge of honor, New York don't know nuthin' about that...

And the surrounding area, especially northern Michigan, is spectacular. Loved watching the freighters pass along the riverfront in Detroit. Agreed though, I hear that "Detroit is back!" here and there, just no. It's a shade better than when it bottomed out, but it's still struggling just to stop the bleeding.

Aubrun hills is too far from the city centre. If you to be in the mix but not in the city proper just look at the map at surrounding cities. I will say the cities north of Detroit are more bustling. Royal Oak Ferndale Birmingham etc and if you are looking for a city lower cost but still alot of amenities check out southfield
