Coming from Texas, my father is sick and elderly. Watching Vice Grip Garage videos together brings him much joy. Thank you to the Vice Grip team and your family for sharing so much with us. My father is 75 and has been a mechanic since he was 15 years old. He vouches for Derek's work and has even been amazed that Derek has brought some back. Thanks again
Saw the issue you were having yesterday on Instagram. Heartwarming to see all the people offering to help - that’s good karma for you - you deserve all the good that comes your way. Take care, thanks for bringing us along. ~ Chuck

Derek, I love your attitude towards such a disappointing set of circumstances! Such a good soul!
Dad always travelled vacations with the car title in his pocket. I remember burnt valves in a ‘63 LeSabre and him telling mom that if we can’t get it fixed we’ll just buy another car to get us home.
I had a similar problem with my 4l60e holding second gear. I found that I had a Short in my harness that was grounding out the second gear shift solenoid and forcing the trans to stay in second gear regardless of what the computer commanded. Try pinning out the transmission harness from the connector at the trans to the connector at the computer. Hope this helps.

I had an 83 Dodge Prospector my first Truck It had an intermittent issue. All I did was out of frustration gave her a hard brake check! I never had a problem out of it for the next 3 years. Then I sold it. Thats the tried-and-true hammer approach! More of a last dich type of move but like a guy that I watch on the inter-webs says "If it works is it a bad idea?"

Derek, I just want to thank you for being one of the great members of this community and its people like you that makes me love the garage community.... Yesterday I saw the tool box you gave Brent from Halfass Kustoms and I just want to thank you for helping him out. You will never know just how much I appreciate you and the others here that pitch in and help out their fellow Tubers in their times of need... it is so good to know that there are still good people out there ....

Sounds like you got it sorted out on what to do with the cat farm truck. I did email you an offer to store it for a bit but I'm sure you had plenty of options to pick from. I'd have loaned my S10 dually tow truck but did not really want to sell her. At the stoplight at 14:04 in the video, you were literally a block from my shop (a feller aint got a lift here but I got a massive shop, giant floor jack, stands and plenty of tools).
You gotta hold the traction control button down while starting the Challenger to completely disable traction control for burnouts. If you just press the button while it is running it just reduces the amount of traction control but doesn't disable it entirely.

So glad Jessica is taking good care of my Mountain Dew Buick. Thank you Jessica. 🎉❤
If you turn the key on to the start position without the engine running and stump the gas pedal to the floor vigorously then cut the key off and repeat the process, when you crank the engine it'll idle around 2,500 RPMs and then gradually come back down to idle that'll reset all the stuck solenoids that the computer would not reset, and it will shift out of second gear if it doesn't come out of second gear then you have bigger problems.
I love that crew cab, beautiful styling.
1) Deoxit should be part of your gear at home and away. 2) Why not find a shop with a scanner and learn what is malfunctioning? Better yet, find a transmission shop with a scanner. 3) Consider a manual transmission for your next PT experience. 4) You're driving through some neat and interesting parts of the USA. 5) Your next video could prove to be quite interesting! You've earned my thumb up. Thank you, Derek!
Oh, snap! Hope all will be OK. Thanks for the video update!
A couple of suggestions for potential wiring problems. First of all I would load test your powers and grounds. I know you said your powers and grounds are good, but they might be extremely weak. Your meter might show 12v, but it could be at a very low amperage. Hook up a decent load like a light bulb or something to load test. Second thing I would check is wire integrity to eliminate any shorts within the harness. If you can disconnect the harness at both ends, send 12v down each wire one at a time while checking to make sure all other wires are dead. If there's an internal short you'll see 12v on 2 or more wires instead of 1.
@CallanChristensen
Жыл бұрын
Contributing to your shorts in the harness idea: since that one relay is getting hot, but not blowing a fuse, it sounds like it is a high-resistance short likely from a crushed wire making an intermittent ground. Then whatever is downstream from it is not getting the amps it needs, like you mentioned.
@kevinsok3011
Жыл бұрын
@Callan Christensen very good point. That makes me also think about checking for a harness short to ground. I suppose there's several ways to do that, but if it were me I'd unhook the trucks positive cable, hook up only my test light to battery positive, and touch all non grounds in the harness. Anything that lights up the test light is shorting to ground.
@Taydrum
Жыл бұрын
High resistance wiring. Had the same thing happen to my fan relays on my jeep. Only thing that worked was doubling the wire, and building a heat sink for the relay

I think my favorite power tour you all did was when you and the family took betty white. Was amazed how well she held up and it was cool how you made a family adventure out of it. After watching that I made it my goal someday to get an old wagon going and throw the family in it and just go on power tour. Even if they are kickin' and screaming. 😂

To fix the trans let some air out the tires. That works for when your rig is too tall for going under a bridge, so what the heck see if it works.....?? I saw some rocket boosters on E-Bay that would speed things up. Why not they are made in Katmandu Indianica, so they must help. Sorry about the mech. trouble. That rig is a great one. You've put a lot of work into that truck and it's probably a simple fix once you find the issue. BTW, I don't know if you're aware of the drop in audio quality on your last two videos but I've had to turn on the closed captioning to understand what you're saying. Good Luck on the rest of the tour and I hope that you figure out what's going on with the crew cab.

Enjoyed the drive, even the slow parts, I grew up in that area and those roads and towns reminded me of my youth, being a teenager in the late 80's, I used to take my Mom's 1970 Olds Cutlass convertible out after dinner almost every nice evening and just drive those back roads trying to get lost and find my way back home, gas was cheap and the smell of honeysuckle is still my favorite sent. Even today when I smell it, it takes me back.
Well a feller sometimes has a run of some not so great luck..it happens to us all.
