Nearly 50yr old reel works wonderfully! Them chubs don't swim around too long before getting chomped on. Fishing is second to none! I have watched all of your videos and I am eternally grateful that you have shared your knowledge with us Richard Gene the fishing machine! Thank you sir!

Machine, as I said to you before I started Bass fishing about a year ago when I moved here to South Carolina from Baltimore , Md. I have learned so much from you! Once again you have inspired me to lighten up my gear and tackle and instead of ripping those fish out of the water like other guys, I want to try and bring them in lightly. Also I wanna seek out small mouth bass now as well!!! Keep em comin sir! Brian McClung, Summerville, SC
Richard, thanks for taking me fishing along with you. I really enjoyed the scenery and sounds of the creek!! Go fishin' when ya can, cause it's gooooood fer ya!

Could tell that older reel was a disadvantage “won’t never use this reel again”. Still caught em all! Love it!
Your such an amazing man you have taught me so much and have encouraged me in so many parts of my life other than fishing these past years, thanks for all the great videos! Love you Gene
Don't know why Smallmouth are such a rush to catch, but I always light up when I hook a Small Jaw. That was an incredible day of fishing and some of the prettiest water on the planet. Awesome video sir and hope you get as much enjoyment out of making them as we all do watching them! God Bless you and yours sir.
Richard Gene you are a classic fishing machine! I've just recently started watching your videos just about a month ago and I got to say I really enjoy it! I have been fishing for most of my life, but when I watch your videos I discover that I and a lot of people like me still have a lot to learn!
Just an awesome trip Richard! great job!

Those are some beautiful bass, in a beautiful setting
The only thing better than fishing is watching you fish AND that strain we hear in your voice when you set the hook and realize it is a better/bigger fish than you thought. Cooler wet weather is coming with Irma. thanks

Looks to me like you were having more fun than somebody with a screen door in a submarine. Mr. Richard, have you ever gone to a creek/river that has Carp in it and targeted them? Have you ever ate any of them? God has His hand on you because you catch so many fish plus you have so much fun doing it. And when family's/and just sometimes just the kids watch you they idolize you and make you their hero because you help them catch fish. I Praise God for you. Blessings my friend Bishop Kirby. I'm going for another cup of coffee and watch some more.
You're the best Richard! Tight lines and bent rods!

Ooh Wee! Another good un' Richard Gene! I like those creek fishing trips, just something about it. And hey, I noticed you was getting some coil twists in your line. I always heard it's the way you lay the spool when filling up a reel....BUT, I got a trick that works great.....I put that new line on the spool in somewhat hot water for a little while and take it out and start filling my reel (shake off the excess water real good)...then I take a rag and spray it down real good with that black magic tire shine spray (like for car tires) and hold the line in a fold and reel my spool full. This process really helps to keep mono manageable after a new spooling. Hope it helps!
@RichardGeneTheFishingMachine

Thank you Josh! The main problem with this reel is it doesn't have a roller bearing on the bail. I wish I would have brought another reel because this one gave me problems with line twist all day! lol
Good one Richard. You can catch them chubs by the hundreds in the ditch behind the civic center in Huntsville. We always used a sane to catch them.

Richard, so glad i found you.I dread the day I catch up with your videos, and have to wait for a new one.I'm curious though in this video I noticed every time you made a cast and let some line out, it was so twisted up, was that because of the new old reel you bought. and does back reeling instead of letting the drag take care of it help with the line twisting. Your videos are inspiring to people like me, I fished every chance i got when I was younger, then I worked for the next 30 years, and now your videos make me want to get out there again, and why, Cause fishin is is gooooood for ya. Keep sharing with us how you set your rig up and what you use, and how you use it. Darryl from Georgia
@RichardGeneTheFishingMachine
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Darryl! Yes you are right, the old reel doesn't have a roller bearing on the bail. It causes alot of line twists because of it.

great video richard,,weather been the same here since harvey left,stayed with use 4 days here ,then left temps been 80's day 50's night,,he didnt just tear everything up,but cooled the earth ,glad to enjoy it normally triple digits this time year,,hey i noticed the side bend in your hook ,is this to keep from hitting eye knot or bait swim
@RichardGeneTheFishingMachine
6 жыл бұрын
Thank you ainskairt olskol! I use a size #4 eagle claw rotating hook. The bend is prefabricated in the hook. It makes for a great live bait hook!
the bass should really be turning on now at browns creek, September has been my best month the last few years..
There ain't nothing better than creekin with chubs or shiners it truly gets em and also like how you clipped the line alot of people don't know that's it's better for the fish
@RichardGeneTheFishingMachine

Thank you theldun1! I was having trouble with that reel all day! lol the real doesn't have a roller bearing at the bail. It cause too many line twists lol
Catch and release is the way to go.
you're a good guy richard gene cause you never said anything bad about that reel until minute 16:34 . i noticed problems earlier. i know that experience. anyone that fishes much knows.
"I won't never use this reel again" lol. I've got a couple in the bottom of West point lake cause if you don't you'll keep giving them chances.

I don't blame you rip rap! lol it doesn't have a roller bearing on the bail, so it was giving me twisty line all day long

Hey Gene, I'm gonna be making my regular trip back down to GA this month. I am a smallmouth and largemouth fisherman (and crappie) from up north with success. I usually go to the Chattanooga area by that dam. I'd like some advice on catching some big 'ol cats for the time that I spend. Only got some spots and some brookies in the streams.. and small channels so far. I'll be on my kayak this month. How do I get a sleigh ride in my 'yak and a challenge to pull the beast into the 'kak?
I gotta tell ya, every time I get through with one of your video's I am in a better mood, you're the best man. I am going to start posting video's soon myself and I hope they are a fraction of awesome as your videos.

You are the Man Richard. Great video. You are not using any weight looks like. Just the weight of the chub. What is causing the line twists? Reel or the line?
@RichardGeneTheFishingMachine
6 жыл бұрын
Thank you theQuailtail! yes no weight. That old reel i was using doesn't have a roller bearing on the bail that what is causing the twists
