Glad you enjoyed it! I well remember the dissapointment the first time I tried the splatter effect. It looked great until I realised the stars were on my specs and the painting was unchanged - Lots more to come. the next ones a corker! Well I think so. 😃😎

Brilliant. Its no too taxing ( hopefully ). Its a nice one to do as a warm up or if you just have a morning to paint. It took me about an hour with a little stop for filming here and there. 😃😍😎

@PaulRansonArt it will take me a lot longer but there's no rush well unless my dogs at the door looking at her lead ,that means toilet break (for her not me lol) thank goodness oil paint doesn't dry out too quickly 😅 🐈🐈‍⬛🐶🐕

Hey Paul, oh I remember doing one of these a long time ago, it was my first one and it came out much better than I could imagine, especially with the thought of adding bright colours on top of a near black night sky.

Oh yes Stephanie - the lapse of attention and the inevitable face full of paint! An artists baptism maybe ? Just don't try the 'beat the devil out of it' routine and expect to get away paint free. I did it for 'fun' in our old house before decorating the room. Three coats of paint on the ceiling and the oil paint still came through! I bet there still there now! Have a great week. A new and exciting 'original' Bob Ross classic is taking shape behind me 😃😃😉😉😎😎🥰🥰

lovely painting Paul...I made the same mistake with the northern lights by not pulling from under the white.so as you have taught before I turned them into sprites but just love the green colour you mixed .Thanks

Hi Annie 🥰 Yes, the record button. I use Filmora and they've changed the user interface - not for the better. It used to be nice and clear, now not so good. Thank you so much for this. I've improved over the years on northern lights but I could still get better. Even though I use a different medium, I think a lot of this can be transferred since I'm still making critical mistakes. When I started drawing the northern lights in late 2018, they looked like radioactive neon bacon. I think I've come a long way since but I've got lots of work to do.

@@PaulRansonArt Thanks so much! I did once get to see them in person, but not the full effect version, here there was a tiny bit of dull brown-green light, but just seeing them at all was an amazing experience.

Beautiful oil painting Paul. The aurora borealis is one of the wonders of nature that is not seen that often. The picture is simple and yet inspiring, the couple of tips you gave will help me with my next project. Today's video helped me as usual, very relaxing and calming as well as interesting and educational. But I have a question, first two. First, you always say you keep your bob ross liquid white in the fridge if I remember correctly. I tried the same thing but for some reason it got too thick to apply and started to dry. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Works with M.W. But not with M.C. And the second question is related to tools. You see, I'm a fan of Bob Ross, but also of Bill Alexander. I got a few Bob Ross brushes and they serve me well, but I can't find the Bill Alexander brushes. I know the 2 1/2 inch brush is rare and hard to find. But is there any substitute? Because I would really like to paint with such a brush. I am trying to find brushes that work with this technique in various dimensions such as 2 1/2 in maybe even 3 inch. I could use some advice on where to find Bill Alexander brushes if you happen to know. Once again, an excellent video and a beautiful oil painting. I thank you in advance for your reply and, as always, I wish you happy painting and a pleasant week.

Hi Angel - I put my Liquid White and Liquid Clear into smaller air tight pots and put them in the freezer. They dont freeze but go stiff. The reason is that the paint dries on contact with air. Freezers have very dry air and not much else so the paint dosn't dry out. They should warm up and go back the same as when you put them in. BUT this will only extend the drying time. Eventually they will go stiff but it takes a lot longer. Not sure why they got thicker unless the pot wasn't air tight. I have no idea where to get Bill Alexander brushes. I did find a link to the store in the USA ( magicofoilpainting.weebly.com/store.html ) Maybe they have an outlet in Europe? Drop them a line as the brushes are available. Now, I have experimented with synthetic decorators brushes for my water mixable oils. Look for ones with white bristles and a fluffy white ( flagged ) These are great for oil painting and work well 😃😎 Hope this all helps - Paul

Hi Corinne 🥰 Well, the truth is, I don't know! You see, all my paintings are done with slow drying oils that allow time for all the special effects. Acrylics dry in moments. So my best advise is to try a few tests on an old canvas. You might find it can be used with some acrylic drying time retarder. But my video wont be any help for this. So don't follow my example. I did do a search on KZread and found a few other artists using acrylics so have a search for them and hopefully you can paint a brilliant Northern Lights. Let me know how it goes - Paul 😍😎

Nah, no worries. In literature and acting and or comedy, I’ve noticed it used for something either middle of the road or just plain awful - or plagiarized even. But it seems in art it’s a tip or maybe shortcut? So thanks for the response Paul!

One final question… what does it mean “hacks”? The connotation is sort of negative to me. But I’m sure it’s not.

Hmmm it was for me too. In fact, I'm in two minds about using it. But apparently it can also mean a good short cut or a way to get a good result. I see it often used as a positive on KZread and in articles discussing different techniques and subjects. If not I'm in trouble! 😃😃🤔🤔
