Become A Waterfall Painting Pro With These Simple Tips For Beginners

I've loved painting Bob Ross's waterfalls with a fan brush. But now it's time to try some new and easy tips for beginners. So let's master the art of painting waterfalls in oils together.
I used a Bob Ross classic painting 'Woodgrain View' for the background wood grain effects on my canvas. Once dry I painted a lovely waterfall using a reference photograph from Pixabay for inspiration. This scene was completed over three days. Each session took about 2 hours. But you can take longer and work at your own pace with this scene.
So, if you want to learn some easy tips for beginners then watch my painting waterfalls tutorial
I used Bob Ross oils throughout this tutorial but other brands will work as well.
The brushes from Royal and Langnickel (not a sponsored video) were from the Menta Range of synthetic brushes. I'm impressed with the quality and as you can see the end results were good. Better still, these brushes won't break the bank!

I’m so happy for you, your subscribers keep growing! I believe that it will keep going strong. So, this painting looks so enticing to me! I love new ways to create, specifically the wood grain effect. It reminds me of the BR classic Copper Winter. The effects of thinner on oils can be very beautiful. I had an older painting of mine that just was, off. I realized it was not balanced with color! Too bright for the time of day. So I decided to play with it and wow!! It’s completely different now and appealing! I really enjoyed watching the fine detail work here. The waterfalls are so alive! The addition of sparkling highlights just puts the icing on the cake. Thank you Paul for every step you take to bring your painting friends together each video visit. They are so treasured!! Much love and art hugs to the whole gang! ✨💞🤗🎨🖌️✨

Thank you Stephanie 😍 This was a fun painting. Like a good book I just didn't want it to end. I'm tempted to repaint it with a better woodgrain effect. Maybe some time in the future. Thank you for all the support and encouragement. Its so nice to hear how your paintings have progressed - Have a great week - Paul 😍😎

Hey Paul I’m still looking at your wonderful vids and enjoying them very much! Truth is I haven’t been painting but as soon as possible I’m going to get going again…body be willing. And it’s planting season out my way so those of you who garden might know how time consuming that can be. Still, every thing Mrs. Angel and I see now have a sort of painterly quality. It’s a wonder how everything we see now is enhanced and framed in beauty. Thank you for that Paul!!

Glad you like them Robin. Yes, my sister is a very keen gardener and is spending all her days prepping the green house and seed trays for the season. You now have the sight of an artist - where everything is a potential painting. Its a wonderful thing and the world around you will never be the same again. Paint when ever the time allows and your moved to pick up the brushes. I'll be making more videos to keep you topped up until then 😃😎

@@PaulRansonArt - I bet you could have, and I can just imagine that the outcome of more detail would be a sight to behold. Quick question, and probably a bit of an unusual one. _Do and/or have you ever painted things relating to "outer space" such as galaxies, nebulas, planets_ - or can those even be painted using oil paint?

Hi Paul. Another creative idea. The oil painting turned out really interesting. An amazing waterfall and really fancy using that effect for a frame or border? I'm not sure how to pronounce it. I enjoyed the video, sorry I haven't joined for a long time. I had certain problems with school. The closer the end is, the more I want to enjoy and the less I want to enter. My concentration, although good, has its limits. So I didn't really have much time for anything. School is hard, especially a few months before the end. I'm glad when you release a new video because I always learn something new or see something interesting. I've also seen a few KevinOilPainting- channel videos lately. They are interesting, I mention them because they show me, just like you, new ways to create fantastic artistic acrylic and oil paintings. I'm still looking for the brushes I mentioned in one of the previous comments. I'll let you know when I find them. In general, as always, the picture is beautiful and the video interesting and relaxing. Although I do have one question. Do you use any Alkyd painting medium? For example Gamblin alkyd medium. Once again, the video is excellent and the sika is beautiful. Until next time, happy painting, have a peaceful week and enjoy.

Hi Angel - well I found school tough enough and so I know just how stressful it can be. Just take one day at a time. Get plenty of rest and the studies will be easier. I'm delighted to know you get a chance just to watch. Its amazing how much you'll remeber. I don't use Alkyd medium just the Bob Ross Liquid white or clear. I thin my paint with linseed oil for the liner brush. Thats it. But I am painting on my DIY paper canvases. I think these dry faster than a linen canvas so maybe thats a factor. Enjoy your week(s) too and look forward to hearing from you again soon 😍😎

Thank you so much 😀This style of painting in layrs is very much the method used by the old masters. Hence the 'old' look maybe. It take a little longer than the wet on wet style Bob used. But give us so much play time and the chance to adjust our paintings as we go. 😃😎

Hi Tommy - so pleased your enjoying my tutorials. Art had been a passion of mine for many years and I'm pleased to pass on the little I know. The website is some what of a challenge right now. But I will get it up and running again soon for the online tutorials - just need a little time to sus the technical issues. If you find you've run out of time for a painting then the best thing is to do the finger tip test you see me doing at the start of every video. Sometimes its good to just keep on painting. But if its a little sticky then I usually use a baby wipe and remove the liquid white or clear and let it sit for 15-20 mins to dry. Then re-apply the liquid white/clear and continue painting. I've found this gives the best results. - Hope this helps 😃😎

I must confess the answer is no although I do have all the books and know the scene from them. Back in the day (early 90's) we only had from episode 12 to 28 to watch. They were shown back to back for years. Its only now that through the internet we get to see the very early episodes of Bob. @@louiswolfe5012
