We're using Photoshop mockups in Affinity Photo because Affinity can do that too!

You're so welcome Simone! I'm glad you found it helpful. Thank you so much for watching!
That was indeed both helpful and very entertaining. You crammed a load of valuable information into a short video, which is the polar opposite of what most KZreadrs in this area of expertise achieve or even attempt. To be creative, experimental, funny and educational all at once is a gift. So once again, thank you so much and in the future, don't change a thing about your style of presentation or the format of your episodes, which are perfect just the way they are. As for mock-ups, this is pretty new stuff for me, but it does serve to illustrate the potential of Affinity Photo and just like Photoshop, it's well beyond the scope of my understanding, but nonetheless good to know that these untapped resources are there should I choose to you use them in the future. So thanks again for that.

Thank you very much Michael, such kind words! Affinity Photo is truly powerful, it may not have the money behind them but they understand what creatives want.
Finally I found your video !!! I've been looking for ways to modify mockups for such a long time... You made my day... my week, my month... my whole original mockup user “carrier“ ! Thank you. Very clear, to the point. And thanks Affinity for allowing that (it's my top favorite designer tool).

I am not sure when I will use this idea - but it was really educational - never knew I could do something like this in Affinity

Great video, clear and to the point. A hint of humour makes anything more entertaining and watchable I've had issues with PSD files in Affinity Photo in the past. They don't always open as they would in Ps. Have you come across this?
@bydesignmethod
Жыл бұрын
Hey Steve - definitely had this issue. I found it mostly with older/free mockups where it didn't fit right or the shadow was off. Mockups I find on sites like Envato Elements and other vetted market places seem to run smooth.
so where would one find these mock ups? also great video as usual

Hey Rolex! I got this particular mockup from Envato Elements (I have an account there) so it's one of good quality. You can search for 'free PSD mockups' online but they can be hit and miss (you won't know until you open them) - and if they don't work properly it's normally because A) they're old or B) the quality just isn't great - good luck and thanks for watching!
I feel like they need to add an AI feature, compete with firefly

Definitely need some AI options to keep up. Thanks for watching!
Great little video. Have you found cylindrical PSD mockups to be an issue? I use free mockups and don't mind tweaking the odd perspective grid but anything like a can or a packing tube never seems to work for me!

Hey Beth, thank you! It can definitely be hit or miss with mockups. I've had some free cans work wonderful and others just not useable at all. I've found mockups from Envato Elements (I use for work) seem to be high quality and work really well, it is however a paid site of course. Thank you for taking some time to leave a comment Beth!

Hey, I got this off Envato Elements (not Envato Market) and the designer was 'L5Design' - hopefully that helps! it worked fantastic for me.
But what if you want to make your own mockup in Affinity Photo instead of using a premade one from Photoshop ? Is it possible to make one in Affinity Photo?
@bydesignmethod

Hey - absolutely. It definitely takes a learning curve but you can create selections and (essentially) make them into editable items like smart-objects.
What website are you using to find these mockups?

Hey - this one is one from Envato Elements, but it's really hit and miss for free ones. I just search google and see what I can find! Thanks for watching Sophie!
Hi! I hope somebody can help me. I got a smart object, which I duplicated. I replaced the contained picture. The 2 smart objects changed. They lookk the same. But I want to look them different, so I would have 2 different pictures. But it behaves like a clone. How can I "unlink" the smart object from the other? Thank you!

Hey - the easiest way (although not super easy) would be to open your mock and make your changes. Then place the mockup again (file > place) and make your changes to the second mockup as they'll now work independent from each other and open in separate tabs. If they have backgrounds (or whatever) on them you'll have to remove them from the 2nd mockup. Let me know if that makes sense, I just tested with a book mockup and it works.
I just give this another try but am not lucky with them I guess, The PSD open up cluttered. Can I have the original PSD you used so I can give it another go?

Try this one and let me know (it's a can) - I tested it and it works ok for me. Let me know! www.freepik.com/free-psd/metal-soft-drink-can-packaging-mockup_29110031.htm#query=mockup%20can&position=2&from_view=search&track=ais
Love Affinity apps. Instead of always dragging and dropping that background image and resizing, you could have just copied and pasted it.

I can't find the "Import PSD" options! In fact, our Affinity's look very different despite being V2.

Hey, just confirming you're using Affinity Photo (not designer or publisher) You're going to preferences > general no 'Import PSD' options?
@MinisterioÚltimoPacto

@@bydesignmethod Found it! In Affinity 2 its no longer called “preferences” as I understand it it’s “settings” in the “Edit” tab. It is in fact in the general settings, but it’s at the bottom. Thank you anyways for the help!
I wish this video covered creation instead of using.

Too much information for one video but I'll definitely add it to the list of future videos!
So... What creates the base, 3-D-ish object? Does that always have to be created in Photoshop? So, we would be limited to only redecorating 3-D-ish objects that were already created in Photoshop? Something tells me that if I were to touch the wrong thing in this file, that the 3-D-ish object and the way the "smart objects"are mapped onto them would fall apart.
@bydesignmethod
Жыл бұрын
Hey Grant, great questions! Mockups do not have to be 3D nor do you need a 3D object to create a 3D looking one. These could also just be created in Affinity Photo alone, but it's a bit of an art to make them look really good and Photoshopper's are great at what they do. Understandable concern about touching the wrong thing, this particular example had a lot of smart objects and it could get messy. Thanks for watching!

@@bydesignmethod So, it seems to me, if someone didn't want to buy Photoshop, they could A) Create the 3-D object in Blender. Create your artwork in Affinity, but in such a way that it can be used as a "U UV Map" in blender to map onto the surface of the object.
