I like to decorate for every holiday. The kids look forward to it. When we were in the military, no matter where we were....it always felt like home. I also light a candle, write bible verses on the mirrors and try to keep our home tidy.

More pictures of my family, and tactfully placed mirrors that bounce light around the house. I live in a terraced house I the UK, they can be quite dark, but the mirrors helped bring light, as did the pictures of my family x

I thought I had found all of the KZread channels to which I wanted to subscribe, then one of your videos appeared in my recommended list. Although I am not Catholic, I am a Christian and something about your video drew me in. From there, I have been enjoying many more of your videos! I am a 45-year-old mom to two girls (ages 12 & 6), married to my husband for almost 16 years. I can definitely relate to you! You are so sweet, grounded, and authentic - I am happy to be a new subscriber!! 💕

Thank you for sharing what your husband thought of you really making your home a Home. That’s so kind that he has eyes yo see your beauty and your intention. Many men either do not care or don’t compliment the home at all and all the work we do to keep it clean which is never easy with little ones.

Beautiful video Heather. ♥️ I love your ideas! Being a full-time homemaker is such a blessing to me! That quote you referenced at the beginning of your video is actually attributed to the heretic Martin Luther and not Dr. King. Even a bad man can say something right every once in a while. “Let the wife make her husband glad to come home and let him make her sorry to see him leave.” Martin Luther Pax Christi ~ Deena 🌺

As our children got older, (early teens), I the dad, would take one child out for an early Saturday breakfast one on one. It did not need to be anything fancy, but the time shared was valuable, that I could get a better understanding of what was going right or wrong with their life, school, etc. This worked well even thru the high school years.

I love how it feels to provide a healthy, home cooked meal for my family. If I take the time to pour my husband a glass of wine (or other special beverage) with dinner it kicks it up a notch. That way he knows he was thought about and I wanted something just for us, too.

I love your suggestions. One of my favorite happy home habits is reading together before bed. I read a few picture books and then my husband will read a chapter in a novel. The older kids sit patiently through the picture books and after a bit of practice the littles have learned to sit through the chapter books. It is a sweet time together.

All of these are great tips! I try to keep my home clutter free and organized. Our home just seems so much calmer without alot of clutter on countertops. When my kids were young I had a book basket by our fireplace where I would switch out the books for different seasons and holidays.

Love all these tips especially the first- being happy to see your kids and spouse! It’s easy to take them for granted when you’re together all the time. I also think it’s important to go out by yourself every once in a while. If I can get out of the house by myself I feel a little bit refreshed even just for 20 minutes.

Your comment reminds me of something I learned along my way through parenting and marriage. That advice was to be their soft spot/safe place to land. There are so many forces in this world working against them (your spouse and children) that they need a safe, welcoming place to be. God bless you as you strive to be that soft place to land.

I just love your content Heather. You are such a blessing to us stay at home moms with littles running around! I definitely wait until about an hour before hubby gets home to pick up the house. No sense and doing it to early, we all know how quickly kids can dump toys everywhere. School day mornings can be hectic so we will always start our car ride to school by praying the rosary. It helps to re-center us if anyone woke up in a mood. We have 2 kiddos so hubby will read and pray with one and I’ll take the other. This way each kid gets one on one time. Sundays are always for church and family time, dinner with the grandparents, so the kids know what to expect and we all get some downtime before the busy week starts again.

I just listened to something last night that Mary told a now Saint to always be content with things. That’s my goal to not always want more. I honestly pray the Rosary with my kids almost every night and I pray for peace. You’re so encouraging. Thank you!

This video has inspired me. When you said that your husband praised and thanked you for making your house a home.. that is what I desire. Ever since we moved into our house (rented) it has been chaotic and terrible here. I cannot seem to get it under control. But hearing you talk about what your husband says to you made me cry and I know that's what I desire for us too. I want my husband to be able to come home and feel at peace in our home. Your a wonderful couple with loving your family together, including your family to spend time with daily as many families are just on their phone and not really spending quality time as they are choosing what the flesh wants. Very inspiring.

Being a minimalist and not having a lot of clutter is one of my favorite things!! And just a thought, to eliminate a few toy boxes you could declutter toys? Have Bella and Zach help you get rid of toys they no longer play and explain to them you guys can donate them to Goodwill or St. Vincent's to other kids who need toys! Me and my littles try to do this 2 times a year and they love knowing they're doing a good thing for others. Love your videos and tips on creating a happy home!!!

It also depends on age of your child. We have 5 kids ages girl 11, boy 9, girl 8, girl7, and girl 2. I have to say that we had a very difficult time when the 3 back to back boy, girl, girl were toddler age. We even stopped going to church, which I don't encourage to do. With time they have definitely gotten better at staying seated and focused but I also think if we went every Sunday as we should have, they would have learned sooner. Courage. Hope this helps.

I love this video so much!! This is something I’m always striving to do and I have quite a ways to go 😅. Thank you so much for the tips. Something I am working on so hard right now for the atmosphere of my home is my own mood. I tend to be kind of a Debbie Downer if I don’t keep myself in check so I’ve been working really hard to correct unnecessary negative thoughts, take good care of myself, and also just try to smile and be playful more often. Sometimes it’s hard in the daily grind or when things go wrong, but I know my husband and son are so much happier and carefree when they see that I am happy. Plus it gives me better energy to take care of them when I’m not so caught up with anxiety.

5 SMALL children??? And you do all of the housework, cooking, taking care of the children, and then create some of the most artistic furniture I've ever seen. Come on, confess; you have a clone. I am the eldest of 5 from a Catholic family. Our prayers consisted of saying grace, Sunday Mass, Advent around the Advent wreath, and the traditional Italian Christmas Eve with anchovy pasta, followed by Midnight Mass. However, it was anything but a happy home. Both of my parents worked. My mother was an anesthetist and was always going out on emergency calls, many times, oddly, on Christmas Day. When I was very little she could leave me with my Italian relatives, which probably saved me at least a little sanity. But as more children arrived, we had housekeepers and babysitters. The house was always in a state of chaos. The last housekeeper we had when we were all pretty much grown up--I was already in college,--once said that cleaning our house was like trying to swim the English Channel backwards. I was sent away to Catholic boarding school just days after turning 12. It was a horrible experience that made me later identify with Jane Eyre. I refused to go back to that terrible place, and my brother and I attended a one room school with a brilliant teacher. That was a magical year. One day my mother came home and threw 2 brochures at me and said "Pick one." Both were from Catholic boarding schools, and I chose the one with horses. Those were 4 of happiest years of my life. However, the school refused to send our information to non-Catholic colleges (something for which they would be sued today). I ended up at Boston College, where the only choice for women was becoming a teacher or a nurse, neither of which I wanted to do. The Jesuit priests were the worst kind of misogynists. Truly awful. The school fulfilled, over four years, maybe three courses that were challenging and of interest to me. Most of the time it was boring and repressive. That was in the early 60's. It was then that I left the Church. I have never gone back. Sometimes I look back on my high school years with beautiful morning Masses, evening rosary, and best of all, retreats. The first one inspired me to become a cloistered nun, which would have been a dreadful mistake, but I had so loved the peace and silence of retreat. I have lived in Italy now for 20 years. Sometimes, especially when it's blistering hot ,and I have to go into town, I often step into the cool, empty Church where the scent of incense still lingers. I sit there for a while until my thoughts calm down, then I light candles for my grandparents and parents before stepping outside to confront the blazing sun and heat. I understand your devotion to prayer. It gives an order and hope, both of which are reflected in your lovely video. I find you to be a truly exception woman.
