I've used all types of dump ram systems in the heavy construction industry and the semi single ram is great BUT I've also seem many of them tip over, two main reason. 1. The operator doesn't lift on a level and solid grade. 2. The material gets hung up on the front of the trailer and one side brakes free while leaving the material weight off setting and twisting the ram and dumping the truck and trailer. Engineers can apply all the math for PERFECT mechanic's of lift and stress points, the one variable that can't be figured in their equation is when the load hangs up and the operator is inexperienced in realizing there's a problem before the point of no return.

When it comes to deciding what type of lift system I want in a dump trailer, I’d take the single cyclinder telescopic system, it’s proven technology that’s reliable and has power to move way more than it’s rated safely, it was definitely cool seeing the how different lift systems react to being overloaded

We had a tree removed, and the crew used a dump trailer, with a scissor lift. I noticed they kept two blocks of wood under the front of the trailer, preventing it from coming all the way down. It stopped about a foot from being all the way down. I asked why, and was advised, that was the only way they could dump heavy loads.

I have an old 72 Donahue 8x16 grain trailer. I was hauling driveway gravel. The sand pit operator had broken his arm so his wife was running the loader. I came across the scale at 30060 lbs on three axles. The front axle of the pickup was off the scale. The old girl protested but lifted the load. It has a scissor lift. Scissor lifts help raise the load evenly when not loaded even side to side. Great video!

I've hauled 22 thousand in the trailer with the scissor lift we use bars on both sides to get it started to dump. Tires take a beating . Always put 17,000 in the trailer at the Gravel Pit it's the perfect heavy load. For a pickup! Very good trailers. There is one thing though on the tailgate The Swinging Doors the outside pockets fill with water causes the weld to rust and they break. If they had a hole in the bottom of the pocket they should drain.

  • @ADHDAdventurer

The second stage isn’t as strong as the first, I’d seen plenty of dump trucks get a load 1/3 of the way dumped and the next stage was maxed out. With the single or dual, the angle is bad for the first 6-12” as it’s pushing back more than it’s pushing up. It’s extremely likely that the first on would of lifted up and then overloaded the next stage before the load shifted. Once the load shifts and starts dumping it’s lighter and will dump so really depends on what you haul and if you can shift the load soon enough.

Y'all need to run a video tutorial on front-of-load baffles to defer the weight of heavier materials into a smaller linear space back closer to the axles. We have nothing but scissor lift dump trailers, with a simple adjustment of the pressure relief which is set way too low from the factory it will dump more than you can put in it. The only reason it won't lift is it goes into hydraulic relief right away. With the weights we Haul, I believe it's time to move to a gooseneck versus bumper pull.

I've worked on hundreds of dump trucks used on farms for grain. Some of these trucks had hoists from the early 50's. I never saw anything with dual cylinders, mostly scissor lifts, a few front cylinder lifts, and a few cam and roller lifts. There is no way I would buy one without a scissor lift. The single front cylinder on your trailers just look weak and unstable. If I had to buy a front cylinder one I would want it with 2 cylinders. I had an automatic bale wagon with 2 cylinders at the back. Bale wagons like this have the deck lift to a few degrees past vertical and used a 3rd cylinder at the front to start the load lifting. This cylinder was mounted vertical and the top clevis pin sat in a notch on the underside of the trailer deck. I think it had about a 16 inch stroke.

Are the cylinders and pumps sized according to rating? You could easily make the scissor lift pick up more than the others by upsizing the cylinder and lower the lifting power of the front lift by reducing the cylinder size, which they may do now to save some cash on each trailer. In this day and time it's hard to take anything at face value. They do look like good trailers, though.

Ricoville Thank you for your thought I have seen these items most of the landscaping co use them I get poor enough gas mileage on my truck as it is extra weight would just hamper I think. There are trailers with like a 4 k load rating sold problem is I’m a retired guy with no money to spend on something I use 4 or 5 times a year

I always took a 4×4 and left it under the front to keep it up and if it still couldn't do it I'd use the hi lift to get that first foot of lift with the dual ram Texas pride we use...

John Givens Why not buy a trailer that's big enough to handle that amount of load? Obviously, if you're using a 4 x 4 and a hi-lift jack all the time you need a bigger trailer that's designed for the weight your hauling.

I have front ram and the issue is not getting it up. I’ve had my 5 ton dump way overloaded. It failed when the trailer was at about a 45 and a lot of the weight is on back corners. One corner dropped about 4 inches. Saved it and got the dirt out. But took some cutting and welding to get her back.

Have a load trail bumper pull for roughly 10 years it’s a 12 footer and have always overload it. Has one single cylinder but it’s a decent size one. Have Load it with 50+ squares of roofing material before through those years of owner ship. Never complained about it and never field on mechanical issue just one leaf spring busted last year but that’s it. Each bundle of shingle is roughly around 80lbs and 1 square is 3 bundles. So over all load trial has done me well.

Not surprising. The front telescopic lift may be new for these types of trailers but the telescoping cylinder life such as this has been used on the BIG dump trucks for decades.

The problem with the front host lift trailer is that if the trailer is not level when dumping, it would be easy to twist and flip the trailer.

Though similar technology, a dump truck lift is required to lifts significantly heavier loads, costs more to replace, and takes more time

My bigest question is where did you come up with the scissor lift being an upgrade from the 2 cylinders and that anyone thats been doing it for a long time prefers to stick with the old way of two cylinders the scissor lift is one of the oldest types of dumps and the single extending cylinders is right after it the duel cylinders is one of the newest types there is that being sead i like my texas pride trailer we have 2 with the duel cylinders yall didn't offer the extending one at the time but id still gone with the 2 there up underneath and protectd better from the sun and debree that could scratch it up and such i would say there safer than the extending cylinders watch some end dump failures on you tube
