I grew up in Italy eating my lovely grandma's cooking which did include a lot of animal foods. I am an ethical vegan because I love animals and would never eat them again. However I still have cravings for eggs, meat, fish and cheese from time to time, probably also because of the nice memories of my grandma. Being an ethical vegan really helps because I would never buy these foods again and because eating them is out of the question, the cravings remain just a fantasy and they soon go. I think it's really important not to bring trigger food into the house or order it in, this way the craving can't be satisfied and will not feed itself. I don't buy ready-salted crisps (chips in the US) because I could eat 3 family-size bags until I feel sick, I literally couldn't stop after the second bag despite being full and not even enjoying them anymore. Since becoming WFPB 4 years ago I haven't bought them and I haven't eaten them. I barely feel the "loss" as there are so many delicious things I can eat instead that are not a trigger food and keep me slim and healthy and looking good - and what could be better than that? My neighbour has pet hens and I'm sure if I asked her she would give me some eggs. But I know myself and I know the "floodgates would open" if I started indulging in animal foods. I wouldn't just be happy with ethical eggs, I would want the butter, and later the bacon, etc. It's easier to abstain. I remember my grandad couldn't eat in moderation either and would often say it was easier for him to skip dinner than sit at the dinner table in front of trigger food and try not to eat it. My way of eating was so messed up for decades (from age 12 to 54) and it's now been under control for over 4 years thanks to eating WFPB. It's not worth jeopardising my big achievement for tasting a trigger food, I think ahead and I think of the consequences for the animals and my health, it's really not worth giving in to cravings. Don't feed them and they will pass.

It is amazing that you always address certain things that I’m thinking about so once again thank you. We have so many similarities or things happening to us at the same time. My dilemma on whether or not I should get Invisalign due to a sudden shift of my bite which is causing my teeth to break. It is so funny I guess I just feel our worlds are running in parallel.😂

I use replacement, to get rid of food cravings. My weakness is tortilla chips, but I can shut it off if I replace chips with whole wheat pasta and fruit. So, my strategy is to ALWAYS have fruit and past in the house!

I am glad this works for you, I love fruit and I love pasta too. But I would overindulge on pasta, so I use riced cauliflower instead, I buy it frozen and it keeps for days in the fridge, I also use it for soups (I used to grate fresh cauliflower, but life is too short!). Riced cauliflower is super healthy, very lo-cal, tastes very similar to pasta once you put your favourite pasta sauce on top. I love my cauli pasta with aubergine and sundried tomato pesto. I don't make the pesto myself at the moment, but I buy the one with the least oil and I drain all the oil before pouring it onto the cauli pasta. It's so delicious that I haven't eaten pasta for 4 years. I did a calorie comparison and the difference in calorie is simply too great for me at the moment, so I'll stick to the cauli pasta. I'd rather have a double portion of that than a small portion of pasta.

@@luluandmeow That oily pesto is the problem, not the pasta.
