I’m a 3 tour Vietnam combat veteran with VA diagnosed chronic PTSD. I discovered via Dr Lustig that my diet, that was never discussed in VA counseling, was driving my PTSD. I changed cold turkey to nothing but real foods and eliminated all toxins and the result was, and still is, dramatic.

What this man says is true. We are addicted to Sugar it's like a drug. My husband is the one that's a bad influence. He doesn't feel like he needs to give up anything because he's never been sick yet he's 56 now it will catch up to him

Yeah, unfortunately it may catch up with him. My husband thought his high blood pressure and sleep apnea were no big deal. Had first stroke at 51, another milder one at 53, and was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension (caused by years of uncontrolled high blood pressure) in July before his 54th birthday and died 4 months later. As you get older your body just isn't as resilient and forgiving. Contrast, my Dad was told he had high cholesterol and high blood pressure at about 50. Started walking most days per week for exercise, , improved his diet, lost a little weight (about 25 pounds) and lived to be just a month or so shy of 87. I also had high blood pressure, did low carb diet, lost about 50 pounds and got off the beta blocker. It can be done.

I think sugar addiction is influenced by personality and physical properties of person, because there are people who eat more sugar than they should- like 75 grams per day, from bad sources, but they dont go wild and like eat 3 slices of cake often. They somehow dont cross that line even though they like to eat sweet and they eat more than they should. Where there are people who can normally drink like big bottle of Coca Cola and that alone is like 200 grams of sugar + sugar from food that day. So yes, sugar is addictive, but to certain degree based on individual.

Oftf and on, over the years, I have blamed the people in my house for my eating poorly. Recently I decided that my health was my responsibility, and no one else's. It takes planning and self discipline, and I'm sure I'll have occasional setbacks, but everyone else in my house seems to have a different metabolism (arrgh!), but, as they say, you never fail, until you give up! 😉

Eat pure, real food. No processed food. It takes 30 days. You'll feel great, and exercise tremendous control in the future because now you'll know how addictive sugar is. Maybe in the future you could have one treat a week. But if you have the same experience I did, you'll feel so amazing you won't want to go back to the enslavement to sugar and processed food. Try it.

Accepting personal responsibility is imperative. In reality insulin resistance is personal responsibility resistance. We ever eat sugar in any form. We are both 76, glucose baselines of 96, BP base line is 108/72, eat zero foods that we don’t prepare, if it has a label we don’t buy or eat it. We also ride our bikes 2 - 30 minute events each day, and take no meds of any kind. This is not magic… you have to be responsible to each other.

I go to SCAA- sugar and carb addicts anonymous, and I work the program of recovery to the best of my ability. Sugar is a drug and it’s evil! Epilepsy, mental health probs, diabetes, Parkinson’s-Alzheimer’s -dementia (type 3 diabetes), pcos (type 4 diabetes), cancer (type 5 diabetes), brain fog, fibromyalgia, etc all strongly linked to sugar and carbs. The food industry is criminal! I’m keto-carnivore, I’ve never been healthier or felt better, but it’s not easy giving it up, it’s more addictive than cocaine!

Its interesting how some people eat excess sugar in diet like 75 grams per day, but they dont go wild- like eat whole 200 gram chocolate or drink 2 litres of Coca Cola. They do get sugar from bad source- coffee, juices, cakes, cookies etc, but they like dont drink like entire 1litre apple juice like i did before when i ate lot of sugar. Its like based on person, will you get addicted to certain level or not. Because if it is so addictive in general, all people who lets say drinked 3 glasses of apple juice would get startet addiction, but they dont, next time they drink 2 glasses etc. So, they say sugar is more addictive than heroin, yes, to certain people, but not in general.

That also confuses me - Oxalate foods cause inflammation but need to figure out what foods they are!

Have seen hours of his videos and his website but other then being told to not eat sugar he just keeps harping on the problem vs giving advice (other than eating starch vs added sugar) on what to eat. IE where can I see a simple shopping list or menus?

My body will tell me when I have had enough oranges to eat and I'll stop eating them. So this is what I do every time every 6 months. You are the only one that really should know your body. I do I'm 68 years old

Get a water filter, so water tastes good.. The only thing that’s ever worked for me was to go cold turkey by going low-carb (20-30 carbs per day). No sugar or processed food (Cut it down as much as possible).. It will be hard for a few days, maybe a week.. Then the cravings go away and food tastes amazing. There is no one answer for everybody, but what works for me probably works for a lot of people.

Soft drinks ARE a real struggle to give up!! I also had to do it a few times before it finally stuck -- it's been twenty years now 🥳. This is what worked for me ... there are certain foods that you feel simply cannot be eaten without Coca-cola, or Pepsi, or whatever ... I substituted Welch's Concord Grape 🍇 Juice for Coke ... it's an acceptable substitute ... it will do. I did this for a year or two, can't remember, exactly. In that time, the Coca-cola addiction was completely broken, then I worked on substituting water for the juice -- you can do that gradually. I still love the juice, as I had some when it was right in front of me a few months ago, and then I craved it for a few weeks, but the key 🗝️ is not to have it around. Juice is easier to give up than the soda -- self control will do it -- but the soda is a drug -- it is formulated to addict! ☹️ Part of the secret is to hate it -- hate the fact that it was formulated to addict you, and to destroy your liver ☹️ -- learn about what it does to your liver, and thereby destroys your health. It helped me just to get angry enough 😡, that there are people who are so evil that they want to destroy my health for their profit 🤑! Sending my best wishes for your health! 😊

Give up everything. In Europe and Asia, no one has to give up anything because food is all natural thrre. Theyvuse cane sugar, not the bad sugar here.

The Asians and Europeans walk to everything and burn more of what they eat. They also don’t have as much access to sweets as we do. It’s less available and more expensive. It’s a cultural thing. They grab real food for a quick meal, and not a bag of chips or a donut.
