Crappie Fishing after Striper Limit At San Luis Reservoir

It's my first trip of the year to San Luis Reservoir. They've been pumping so much water into this lake, it's gone up 40 feet since I was there last. The striper bite isn't the same. The weather has changed as well so it was tougher finding active striped bass.
We spent most of the morning fishing for crappie by the small dam in the Cottonwood area. I wasn't marking a lot of crappie that day but for some reason the ones I did mark were active. You had to put your jigs right on top of them. Using the Panoptix Livescope, we were able to hone in on their location and pull in some of these slabs.
It wasn't easy fishing. The school of crappie kept moving around so we had to keep moving as well. Sometimes as soon as the jigs hit the water, they'd be on the move again and we'd miss them completely.
After catching 20 crappie in the area, we went back to striper fishing. We tried the west side of the lake by the submerged islands and found a nice school there. We made a few passes trolling the Atlas Rigs and David was able to limit out and he called it a day. I went back out to scout out the area in front of Fisherman's point and caught one before calling it a day. Overall, the striper bite was slow but the crappie bite was great.
