I think we are starting to realize that Ronaldo was more than just a weapon for Real Madrid. He was a leader who demanded perfection from himself and teammates. I think it is ridiculous to think his leaving is not the primary reason for Real Madrids collapse. From winning three Champions league in a row to knocked out by AJAX at home in the round of 16. Also have you noticed that while Ronaldo was at Real Madrid he helped two midfielders (Ozil and Modrich) look significantly better than they actually are? It is because Ronaldos movement off the ball puts so much pressure on the opposing defenses that midfielders can thrive. Ronaldo might not always play the most beautiful brand of football anymore (i.e. dribbling past 3 defenders or scoring free kicks) but he has an incredibly high IQ and has more of an impact than initially apparent.

If they actually splashed some cash every now and then for a player in the transfer window, they can consistently make deep runs into the CL IMO, and you make your money back just like that. This is my first time I saw this video and once they said that I got so mad because Benzema is so good. He has been 2nd in top scorers in la Liga for 2 consecutive seasons.

I don't think Real Madrid were that bad, but it's more that Ajax were so good. They were phenomenal. Give them credit rather than slagging off Madrid.

That is only because Ajax sells players and not for a bargain. The budgetted revenues of TV money and merchandise is not all that. And true, Ajax will be richer at the end of this season, because of sales and this CL-money. Don`t forget Ajax had to play 3 rounds before entering the CL. Only lost the home game against RM and only because of an appaling VAR decision.

A lot of these games were very winnable except for so many wasted chances. And once teams can see Real's lack of a goalscoring threat, they know tactically they can go all out attacking because there is no one to punish them anymore, no fear factor.

As a football fan (Barcelona fan), watching Real Madrid this season has been confusing. This is without a doubt the worst week in RM in recent memory. I cant stand people saying that Real Madrid is nothing without Ronaldo. The truth is that Ronaldo and Real Madrid need each other. Watching there last three games vs Ajax, and x2 Barcelona, Real Madrid created plenty of chances that should have resulted into goals. What they are lacking here is Ronaldo's goalscoring ability, not Ronaldo, for the totality of his game, although most parts of his games have diminished over the years (playmaking and dribbling), and is more goal scoring centred. This is a clear distinction, Real Madrid dont need Ronaldo, what they needed was a player with a high caliber goal scoring ability (Kane or Lewandowski). When you lose Ronaldo, you lose 40-50 goals a season. Real Madrid wingers, midfield, and full backs, WILL create chances, they are amongst the best team in the world at that, and thats why Ronaldo's goal scoring numbers were so high. Its a huge reason why Ronaldo averaged so many shots per game. If that doesnt support my argument, then look at Ronaldo at Juve, with their midfield, wingers and full backs. Ronaldo is projected to only score between 30-35 goals this season at his current rate, he doesnt get the type of service at Juve as he did in Real Madrid. Real Madrid need Harry Kane or Lewandowski. Sure they are not on the caliber of Ronaldo's goal scoring ability, but they arent far from it, these guys are proven 30-40 goals a season type goalscorers without the service of what Ronaldo had at Real Madrid. Ronaldo and Real Madrid were just a match made in heaven. Not discrediting Ronaldo for what he meant for Madrid, but he become more of an important piece of the engine than being whole engine itself, especially when you had the best fullbacks, best midfield and world class wingers.

@@Andre-td4pf If you refer to engine, the engine of the team has always been in the midfield, the engine is usually the player who plays box-to-box. Ronaldo was not the engine. Luka Modric covers more ground and has mroe duties than Ronaldo, same with Marcelo, Carvajal, Casemiro, and Ramos. Cristiano had no defensive duties other then defending corners on the near post or being a person on the wall during a set-piece. Learn football man. Being an engine is someone who covers ground.

@@adamhargitai5949 Cant deny that Real optimized Ronaldo best as a goalscorer. Compare his production at Madrid to at Juve. Real are missing the striking threat that their team was built to supply, and as a result they cant win games and the team is falling out of form. They need to sign Icardi or Kane or another striker.

Alex Thoppil what you said is valid, especially from Ronaldo’s last couple years with Madrid when he basically become a striker. When he was in his prime though he could carry Madrid on his back from 2011-2015
