In this video you see me use a looper pedal to recreate the solo instrumental song Ramparts (To Record Only Water for Ten Days, 2001) by John Frusciante (guitarist, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Can't Stop, Californication, Snow, Black Summer, Under the Bridge, Give It Away etc.) in one take. I am showing comments for each looping stage, including chord names etc.
Ramparts might be my favorite instrumental from one of the classic Frusciante solo records (which, for me, are those released between 2001 and 2009: To Record Only Water for Ten Days, Shadows Collide With People, The Will to Death, Inside of Emptiness, Curtains, The Empyrean). I must stress that there is much more going on in the original than in my spartanic loop. I decided to keep it simple though since loops are mono and you can't really do much mixing. So too many layers with too complex sounds make the result increasingly muddy.
And: Could there be a first better song to play on the Les Paul that could recently get my hands on? ;-)
(Frusciante is usually assiciated with single coil guitar sounds like the Telecaster or Stratocaster, not with humbucker Gibson like the Les Paul.) I must say I really love the neck pickup tone of this LP.
